I dunno maybe a strong enough roar can set off car alarms.
I heard them go off after a loud lightning strike in my neighbourhood.
I don't know if it was the lightning hitting the ground or the loud thunder, which also shook the windows bad.
I think a roar like the monsters would definitely shake some stuff up.

A roar that shook cars enough to set off their alarms?
Well, I just hope I'm never in Battery Park when that thing roars, surely it'd blow out my ear drums!

Yes, yes, exactly. Powerful sound waves. No earthquake needed.

I can second that - if the sound is loud enough it will be able to trigger sound alarms. Frequency thing. Same as when someone shrill screams at X pitch it will shatter glass

Vegas question

Pfft, Dallas? I'm talking VEGAS, baby. What was the last film that was destroyed in?
The Stand, based on Stephen King book. Vegas took a nuke in town square.

Yes....but he was referring to a whole other flick entirely and if one of you is 13, forget the last several posts involving Dallas.

It's not that hard. My dad's motorcycle is modified so that it goes just a bit above the legal limit for sound. When he goes down streets he sets off several alarms. If the beast was grounded, it wouldn't take much amount of sound to set off alarms and cause what i would imagine would feel like an earthquake.

I know... but I'm worrying that we're starting to read too much into it, or read something that isn't there with the idea that the beast's roar can shake the city... at the end of it it's still a Hollywood movie so realistic physcis need not always apply.
Hell, there's still some people assuming the monster threw Liberty's head all the way from Liberty Island despite the rather big evidence that it's in, or near City Hall Park.
After rewatching the trailer you can also hear subtle sounds of shaking, like glass breaking and objects moving... I think it's fair to say the city shakes because of the monster and people mistake it for an earthquake.
And it's not neccesarily caused by the monster's roar.

What does Abrams want us to find? I was kinda pondering on what Abrams is wanting us to find or is willing to share with us before the movie comes out. How far can he go before it spoils the movie.
Obviously he will want the title out, whether he announces it or we find it by clues in the websites, it has to be out there.
The monsters' name -- if it's the movies' title of course it can be revealed in the websites but if it's not or if there is no name it may be one thing that is not part of "the Game". I think it may be saved for the movie.
He is revealing the main characters in an ingenous way..through Myspace.
For the next 5 months they will show us their characters(and have done so alot even now). We will care abot them alot more and they will be multidimensional as opposed to getting to know them in 2 hours of film time. I think that is the real reason for the Myspace sites - character development. Just by the comments you now know Rob and Beth are quite close and Jamie's a partygirl(which is almost like a Red shirt in Star Trek for who's gonna die).
Does Abrams want us to know the major plot points? He has given us alot with the 1-18-08 site(with hopefully more to come), trailer and poster. He'll want to keep some surprises.
What the monster looks like? No way. This will be the for the big reveal in the movie.
So what is really left for Abrams to leave clues on? I don't know, does anyone else have any thoughts on what will be revealed between now and the movie?

Apparently not much. I mean I enjoy a mystery as much as the next person. And I despise marketing like trailers that give away the entire movie. But absolutely nothing is happening now. OK we have a website with a few snapshots and myspace pages.
If nothing more than just letting the characters on myspace do their daily thing, leaving us out of the loop and ignoring us completely while they actually substantially interact with each other would be great.
is anyone losing interest out there? I mean there can only be so much "foreplay" before interest is lost.

hindsight is 20/20 I have a feeling we will go back after the movie is released and say to ourselves "it was so obvious ,why didn't I pick up on that!" Especially the Shusho site...there has to be alot we are missing. The clue with the haMMer, chEEse and MiTTen is one that is just eluding us. the Slusho site is too big a production not to have some kind of infomation about the movie.

i agree, it's too much of a professional site. It HAS to have more clues to it. but maybe it doesn't. It's all a mind game.

Cheese this my be old, but I'm a little too busy to check every single thread...
"Cheese" was the fake name for the shoot at which the call sheet for the final day of filming was supposedly leaked - perhaps "hammer" and "mitten" are other fake names people should look for where filming is going on?
