Info: The Watchers

Quote:
Common to almost all Pagan/Witch/Wiccan traditions is the concept of the Watchers or the Keepers or the Guardians. They are known by many names in many traditions. In the teaching of various cultures, these entities are called by many names including: Agents, Angels, Conscious Thought Forms, Creative Energies, Devas, Fathers, Fountains, Gates, Governors, Hands of God, Lords, and Shining Ones. To some Strega they are known as the Grigori. Each of these 'Watchers' is responsible for their 'area' of the ritual circle. They are multi-faceted beings. Not only do they 'watch' your workings, they are the guardians of the Air of that specific direction, and they guard their portals between the Worlds. They are the intermediaries between Gods and humans.
...
...
They are protectors of the ritual circle. We EVOKE (to summon or call forth) the presence of the Watchers at our ritual circle but we INVOKE (to address in prayer) their nature within ourselves. It is 2 different things.
...
...
Throughout history, the idea of 'The Watchers' have been found in Sumeria, Peru, Egypt, Mesopotamia and Greece.
...
...
The Watchers were a specific race of divine beings known in Hebrew as 'nun resh ayin' or 'irin' (note: Irin is not a keyword)meaning 'those who watch' or 'those who are awake', which is translated into Greek as Egrhgoroi egregoris or grigori, meaning 'watchers'. The early books of the Bible speak of some vague heavenly beings called malochim (singular, malach). Although malach is usually translated 'angel', its literal meaning is 'messenger.'
...
...
Formalhaut (Arabic for 'mouth of the fish'), is one of the southernmost bright, first-magnitude stars visible to northern latitudes. It can be found in the constellation Piscis, and is the 17th brightest star.

Antares is found in the constellation Scorpius, and is the 14th brightest star. Antares is the heart of the Scorpion. Antares gets its name from the ancient Greeks. It means 'anti-Ares'. Ares is, of course, the Greek god of War who is also called Mars by the Romans.

Aldebaran is found in the constellation Taurus, and is the 13th brightest star. Aldebaran is the red eye of the Bull.

Regulus is found in the constellation Leonis, and is the 21st brightest star. Regulus in Latin means 'royalty', 'prince' or 'little king', and is the brightest star in Leo. Prior to Copernicus, who gave it its name, it was called Cor Leonis, the heart of the Lion. The Persians saw this star as the Watcher in the North and linked the star to their mythical king Feridun who once, in their mythology, ruled the entire known world.

The Dreams of the Giants

The 1st Dream is had by Mahawai and in it a Tablet is immersed in water, all but 3 names washed away.

The 2nd Dream is a tree uprooted, all but 3 roots are torn up. Gilgamesh states that it affected only the earthly rulers, not the giants. 'Ohyah said first it was about Azazel. The dreamers speak first to the Monsters, then the other Giants.

The 3rd Dream is about Gardeners in a garden taking care of 200 large trees, reaching unto the Heaven's. Large shoots came out of their roots, they used up all the water and were then destroyed along with the rest of the Garden in a fire.

The 4th Dream is about The Ruler of Heaven coming down to Earth,…"all grew afraid" speaking of the Nephilim and the Giants. They, as a group sent Mahawai to Enoch, trying to find out how long the Giants have to live.

These are the same three sites that keep coming up. Someone should try "cite popcorn" just to see if the sites are responding only to the word "cite".

This is the third time I will post this. Somebody is going to read this damnit. Very Happy Grigori is a keyword too. I posted all this early this morning.

Quote:
THE WATCHERS

In Italian Witchcraft the beings known as the Grigori (Watchers) are an integral aspect of the belief system. Over the course of many centuries the initiates of Italian Witchcraft have developed various signs and gestures that are recognized by the Grigori and indicate the presence of a trained witch of the Old Religion. This intimate relationship between Grigori display of prescribed signs and gestures at the appropriate quarter grants passage by the Grigori and allows the initiate to gain access to the portals that lead dirctly into the Otherworld realms...

In the early Stellar Cults of Mesopotamia there were four "royal" stars called the Watchers. Each one of the these stars "ruled" over one of the four cardinal points common to Astrology. This particular system would date from approximately 3000 B.C. The Star Aldebaran, when it marked the Vernal Equinox, held the position of Watcher of the East. Regulus, marking the Summer Solstice, was Watcher of the South. Antares, marking the Autumn Equinox, was Watcher of the West. Fomalhaur, marking the Winter Solstice, was Watcher of the North.

In Charles Leland's bood Aradia he recount the tale of "The Children of Diana, of how fairies were born," in which it is stated that Diana created "the great spirits of the stars." In this book we also find a reference to an elder race: "...Then Diana went to the Fathers of the Beginning, to the Mothers, the Spirits who were before the first spirit, and lamented unto them that she could not prevail with Dianus. And they praised her for her courage, they told her that to rise she must fall, to become the chief of goddesses she must become a mortal."

THREE DEGRESS OF INITIATION
Italian Masonic group known as the Carbonari (circa 1820) had three degrees of initiation marked by colored cords or ribbons: blue, red and black. A triangle marked the first degree level. The Carbonari claimed to have been based upon the Mystery Cult of Mithra.

STRUCTURE OF THE CIRCLE RITUAL
It is intersting to note that in the Essay on the Mysteries of Eleusis, by M. Ouvaroff, we find passages from the ancient philosopher Porphyty who reveals that the symbols of the Greek and Roman Eleusinian Mysteries included the circle, triangle and cone which are all aspects of Wiccan rites.

THE NORTHERN ORIENTATION OF RITUAL
The Etruscans who occupied central Italy (from whom the Romans borrowed heavily) placed their deities into quarter associations. To the north was the chief god Tinia (and his consort Uni) who was king of the gods. The north was divided up into four sections which spanned from the north to the east quarter. In the east (the furthest extentsion of the northeast placement) dwelled the twelve major gods and goddesses of Etruscan relision. In the south were placed the lesser gods and nature spirits. In the west were placed the deities of Death and the Underworld. In this Etruscan view of the Cosmos we have the earliest account of Italic beliefs associated with the four quarters.

Myssfitz,

People are reading your posts. I posted on a different thread that I used your post above as my source when talking to TP tonight. I'm sure others did too. This was a great resource Myss. Thanks to you.

Yes, I read your nice note on the other thread. I posted those about 2 minutes apart. Sorry guys, not acting childish. Just thought something was important and I wanted to make sure it got used, since I haven't been online the same time as TP.

Thank you Dash Very Happy for here and the other one. But I hope my smiley on this thread was noted. That meant I was taking it all in stride, without any attitudes. (I'm really working on that damnit Very Happy ).
