questions

Hi, Ive been lurking everyones topics for a while but havent really posted anything. I have a few questions that might or might not help lead some where.
Does anyone know first hand what Cortana does on the computer in High Ground or does she just appear there? Is there anything similar to this on Valhalla? Could this reference to High Ground be a clue indicating that Cortana is the narrator of this poem? If so is does it then mean that the poem is purely for driving the story or is there more that can be gleaned that could help unlock the next server or point us in the direction of another branch the arg will take?

I really don't think this is Cortana, for a couple of reasons:

1. Every other viral marketing ARG has been within its own self-contained world inside the larger universe. ILoveBees was within the Halo Universe, but, IIRC, didn't cross-over the major Halo characters into the ILoveBees world. Likewise with The Lost Experience. It links, but doesn't involve, if you see what I'm getting at.

2. Given what we know from within the self-contained IRIS story, then it would suggest that the person recording the video messages is either the Forerunner who fired the Halo previously, or some kind of rampant AI. Personally, the Forerunner seems more likely at this point. Just a hunch.

I've been a story geek since I started playing Halo back in 2004, and the text within the Content Overwrite answers a lot of questions. At least, it appears to.

From H1 to this point, it is apparent that humans, as Reclaimers, should know more about what is going on than we do. In fact, we seem to be central to the Forerunners plan, yet know essentially nothing about it.

How could this be? What went wrong? Why don't we know more?

The Content Overwrite suggests the following answer:

A Forerunner AI (or less likely, a Forerunner), tasked with managing the Halo firing, or at least, the post-firing reclaimation project, had a change of heart. A philisophical fall from grace. Call it what you will.

If evolution, in it's most fundamental state, is the law of the universe, is the essential reason for the universe, then should the AI allow one form of life to trump the mightier with parlor tricks? Should the AI side with the light (which created it), or the dark, which will consume it? What is right? Is pure, evolutionary power better than technological might?

The Flood were one move away from a Checkmate, and the Forerunner swept the board clean. Cheating? Quitting?

A slow descent into madness, with millenia to ponder, turns the tide, I think. This entity sabotaged the Reclaimation, leading us to where we are now.

that's deep

I like.

I could see Bungie pull that off.
I think though we need to someho figure out how the events of Iris could tie in to Halo 3's story. We have an idea of events that happen in the game, so what could happen in 2007 that may or may not have an effect on the events of 2552?

Now what would be really cool would be if the 'early 21st century' was written into the Halo 3 game future-history, so that what we do here with Iris (the outcome already known) will be applicable to the game's plot...

Or at least like ILB, where we were led to believe that the Actions impacted the Story.

different thought

im like EmileBerliner and havent really posted much but heres my thought:

1. there is another possibility, that it is dr. halsley. for those who haven't read the halo book series, she is the creator of the spartans and was the only one to slightly translate the forerunner glyphs. they find something that is similar to the object on the servers and the tunnel is like at reach. also, through the books she had to fight with the ethics and logical sides to her and maybe she had to use the forerunner facilities some how as a last resort.

2. in some h3 screenshots online(sorry i cant put them here, it never really works) they have a new form of spartan to play as on multiplayer and it resembles the SPI armor(semi-powered infiltrarion armor) in the books. plus in the first teaser, they had that big canyon with that big structure in the middle and it also resembles the structure under reach in the 3rd hlo book: First strike.

3. the words in the poem seem to have a deeper meaning and, with more time, maybe there is a key to unlockung the 4th or 5th server at halo3.com

well thats my take on it, and as for ilb, we cant compare it since iris is fundementally different then ilb becaus iris goes more along the backstories never really told in halo. from what i gathered lib was more a campaign to get more buzz on h2 and the actual story ingame.

Actually, ive seen alot of "Elites are going to have 2 more armor sets" It was something like Predator and Interceptor. Dont throw Elites aside just because not alot of people play as them.
Anyways, nice find. Cant wait!

Well in the EGM scans it shows 3 different types and as of now spartans have 3 different types...Its gonna probally be somthing like Rainbow 6 vegas where some armors are quicker but weaker and others are slower by stronger. Thats my spec on it though it could be wrong.

Yeah, i could see the CQB being a tank and the EVA being the ninja. I was hoping they would incorporate a Shadowrun like system, where you had the big, strong, but slow char (Hunters or Brutes) the small, weak, but lethal chars (Jackals and Grunts) and then the Elites and Humans.
