Have to admit I dont like that bottom picture without the monstrous title on AICN. It just leaves too much blank space at the top of the poster.

Kinda hard to take AICN seriously when they're saying that our photog's 'spiced it up'.

Harry Knowles from AICN is reporting that a "spy" tells him there will be 4 movie posters:

(1) Monstrous

(4) Colossus

From Wiki: The New Colossus" is a sonnet by Emma Lazarus (1849-1887), written in 1883 and, in 1903, engraved on a bronze plaque and mounted inside the Statue of Liberty. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Colossus

I have a hard time believing the whole "colossus" thing. Like it was said on the other thread by AfterDystopia-

Quote:
There's already a semi-famous PS2 game called Shadow of the Colossus, a book called Colossus, and a movie called Colossus: Forbin Project.

When people started saying "Colossus", the PS2 game was immediately what came to mind-- and with that, me saying "LAME!"

Ofcourse, you never know- just my opinion.

ComingSoon.net has a really large, high quality pic of the poster with better lighting.

 Different Damage size on buildings

On a close look at the movie poster in high res, I notice that the two buildings in the first row have some damage in the lower part suggesting that a spherical creature pass through them. But if you focus on the lower part of the building in the second row you can see another circular damage in the lower part, but smaller than the ones in front. It seems like the damage are caused form a sort o conical plasma ray coming from the center of the city… or the creature can change its size.

I wouldn't read into the poster too much. Ultimately, nitpicking geography or creating shapes out of cloud formations does nothing to reveal the creature's identity, to say nothing of revealing an official title. Even if a title were pieced together from studying the poster, I hardly doubt it'll provide much, if any information - 'Lost' or 'Alias' reveals absolutely nothing about the plots of either series, I don't see how a one-word title for this movie is going to enlighten anything as far as actual content is concerned. Artists have been bending reality in their pieces for the sake of increasing dramatic effect for centuries, and this poster is no exception to that. We've already learned all that could be learned from the poster - that 'Monstrous', whether from the beginning or changed at the last minute due to poor public reception, will NOT be the title of this movie. Just sit tight and wait for more information to trickle in, dissecting a poster like this only creates speculation that 99.9% of the time is going to be flat-out wrong. Remember when the trailer first came out and everyone was deducing it'd be Iceman/Cthulhu/Voltron/Godzilla/Leviathan? Every last interpretation ended up being wrong, as Abrams asserted himself. Patience is key; January ultimately isn't that far away, and you'll have to wait even less to get the information you're after.

Agreed Guest.. And movie posters tend to give you a snapshot of the entire movie, could u imagine us picking apart something like a StarWars poster "omg they're fighting with lightsabers AND the death star blows up". I think what you see in the poster is time lapsed. Whatever it is (and knowing JJ, we many really never know) - looks to have came in from the ocean, attack the SOL, and either tossed its head towards the city (only to toss it again once he gets there), or carried it into the city and tossed it further in...

And hello forum, been lurking here a week or two, great forum. Will register / etc later, don't have time. NY Resident (long island), and picking up my mother at the airport today, one of the things we're doing happens to be the SOL - from the battery park side, on Saturday. To give you some more angles, etc to go over, I'll take pics and post 'em here this wkend.

Nice find. I wonder if there are any clues on these posters?

I'm going to pull a newb here- I immediately think fake. The "Furious" poster is identical to the "Monstrous" one. Why release the "same" poster twice? Also- didn't the official poster get released sans "Monstrous"?

It looks like the same exact poster. The only difference I can see is the title ("Furious" instead of "Monstrous").

I'm thinking fake, too, tygr20. (you posted while I was typing!)
