I'm taking what Kona says with a grain of salt, as I would were it Phaedra or anyone else here with their experience. I don't think Kona is saying, "Stop what you're doing, you're ruining it for yourselves." I think instead it's kind of what I've been feeling. Before the Myspace break, I was sick of this thread, I'd been checking it hourly from work, thinking way too hard. Just don't get so wrapped up that if this goes nowhere that it sucks.

Right now, we all know that this is marketing, and an EAR as you say, but it might also be the start of a bona fide ARG, w/more to come later. Either way, where's the harm in speculating, and even actively pursuing wild possibilites? I'm not investing time in this because I think it will pay off later w/some discovery - I'm doing it because it's FUN right now. Even if it's all nothing but marketing - it's still fun to pretend there's a mystery/puzzle somewhere. It's not like anyone is demanding that YOU chase these possible 'leads' down. So, can't you let us have our fun? Please..?

WELL SAID!

Please... everyone take the time now to view that youtube video (previous page) and read Rob's tagline.

The lamppost comments have to be related.

They are already interacting.

his tagline "That sounds like something a lampost could do" is a direct quote from the Flight of the Conchords! Easily found on Google...but something I have seen every episode of lol.

Sorry, didn't know I had to preface every post with IMHO. I'll remember to do that now. Wink

Of course it's fun to speculate, but some folks are getting way too deep and running off on so many tangents that the signal to noise ratio is overwhelming.

I'm not stopping anyone's fun. Just putting in my own 2 cents. Cool

IMHO.

fair enough: no offense intended, and none taken. Smile

Btw, what does IMHO stand for? (I'm a newbie, and honestly don't know).

IMHO is Internet shorthand for In My Humble Opinion. It's not specific to this site.

Is it me?

Anyone else see any similarity to the Adios shirt and the Slusho "blossom"?

Probably had a few too many slushos today...

FWIW, IMO, Kona's right to a point. The myspace pages, at a minimum, are there to fill out the characters who are not likely to be that developed in the film itself (as is typical of most monster movies). But I'd like to think there's more to it than just to introduce us to a handful of annoying profiles indistinguishable from those of the teeming millions.

I broke down and got a myspace account to figure out how it all works. The first thing I looked for is privacy settings--all comments can be set to allow all, allow with approval, or allow by friends only. All the pages have the same settings: comments on the blogs require approval; pic comments are not allowed at all except by Friends; video comments are allowed by all. I don't believe any of them have their own vids, but clicking on the profile picture on the vid pages will change the banner ads. I haven't seen anything of note doing this so far.

All of these are deliberate decisions made by Bad Robot, so I'm guessing the vid pages are open in order to make them the "official" blogs of the movie. The other possibility is that the characters will start to notice the repeated references and "predictions". We'll know soon enough--if the characters are simply going to ignore the vid comments, then they don't mean anything. Or maybe if you post a really good vid that they like, you'll get a small part in the movie or some other prize.

We should feel free to speculate without fear of being laughed at, as I have already witnessed some do. This sort of attitude will only discourage further free-thinking which could lead to a breakthrough of sorts.

That said, here's some pure speculation...

I'd say that if there are other myspace profiles involved other than the 7, they would probably have been created after June 13 and prior to July 23. (That's the latest create date out of the 7)

Since the majority of myspace profiles do not include both first and last names (myspace warns against it), and all of the 7 do, that could be one indicator of a possibly legit IG profile.

So beware of any reported supposed, "IG" profiles which were created prior to June 13, or after July 23. That should at least help to narrow it down a little.

I guess we can begin to weed them out of the video comments/subscriptions since that's all we have to go on for now.

But HetMasteen and Soci(Brooklyn based) pointed out that Rob is from the Tribeca area, and the 7 would miss him completely.

Well, first of all, it's in Lily's blogs that this is written. Secondly, even if Lily lived in Tribeca, there are trains to get to 42nd to transfer to the 7. Thirdly, if the trains that lead to the 7 are far away from where she takes her train, it makes even more sense since the phrase describes how far out the 7 is (although the entrance to the 7 on 42nd is smack in the middle of time square, so it's not really far out at all. Although the final destination for the 7 is in Flushing which is what i'm guessing the suit guy was referring to).

I was unaware when I was talking about the 7 that we were referring to Lily. I thought it was from Rob's MSP.
