[SITE] SLUSHO! ZOOM!
Related: 1-18-08

I started this one for a more specific thread dealing with the Slusho links.

Quote:
The Slusho! story is of magic and triumph!

Noriko Yoshida dedicated her life to refreshment! Her classmates called her
the Smallest Whale because she would drink endless amounts of beverages at
every meal.

Truth was Noriko loved libations so much, and drank so much, she did not
join while the other children opened their fun, she rather experimented with
flavor mixtures - combining different fruits, vegetables and other ingredients
naturally grown form her father's (Ryouta Yoshida) farm to make great new
beverages.

Her deliciousness made her loved throughout many towns and villages on
Honshu.

(p2)

And every year she would try to beat herself by coming up with a new flavor
mixture, so unique to anything else - she was never satisfied!

But tragedy struck for the Smallest Whale! Noriko set off on a sea
adventure to find the greatest, most tastiest ingredient to the world, and
was never heard from again!

She left behind her only son, Ganu! Ganu also liked to experiment, but not
with the beverage-making enterprise that killed his mother, but for science!

He abandoned his mother's drink business to his cousin, because the pain of
her loss was so great with every flavor mixture Ganu attempted. Truth is
that he became a lead ocean scientist. His accomplishments are many, he is
very big.

(p3)

And one fateful day, he and his teammates discovered a deep sea ingredient
unique to anything else!!!! While the team pondered miraculous ways to use it,
Ganu had the best idea of all!! Because that night he had a dream - he was a
tiny fish, and a whale came and told him to drink the new ingredient. And as
he did drink lots and lots of the ingredient, Ganu grew from a small fish into
an enormous whale!!! He woke up with tears, he knew he had found the magic
ingredient Noriko had set off to find!

He decided he would make his mother's dream live - make the tastiest drink,
unlike anything on earth! Because the ingredient was discovered on the deep
ocean floor, under amazing pressure and in the most extreme cold, Ganu
knew he had to serve the ingredient in a near-frozen state to preserve its
freshness!!

(p4)

He re-joined with his cousin, and combining the incredible drink-making
knowledge of Noriko's business with the new ingredient, SLUSHO! came to
life!!!!!!

Everyone who drinks a SLUSHO! tastes Noriko's dream, and becomes a small
whale like Noriko - because you want to drink huge amunts of SLUSHO!

BET YOU CAN'T DRINK JUST SIX!!!

Curiosities

I posted the SLUSHO! History here for reference, and I went through it word for word and tried to space it on the same lines as it's shown on the site. I did this because while proofing it, I noticed a few additional spaces and emphasis on some words, so thought I might be relevant.

I also noted the page number for the segments.

Initial observations - you may find others - are such:

Page 1 - aside from the whacky punctuation, there is a typo here:

naturally grown form her father's

There are only 2 exclamation marks on page one:

triumph! (heading) and
refreshment! (first sentence)

One header/title, 3 paragraphs
11 lines

Characters introduced:

Noriko Yoshida
Ryouta Yoshida

Location: a farm in Honshu

Now, the reference to her classmates suggests she's rather youngish.

Odd syntax:
while the other children opened their fun
Her deliciousness made her loved

Page 2

There are 5 exclamation marks on page 2:

(p1)
satisfied!
(p2)
Whale!
again!
(p3)
Ganu!
science!

None in p4 (p=paragraph)

4 paragraphs
11 lines

Characters introduced:

Ganu! - Noriko's only son
Ganu's cousin

(if she had classmates, there seems to be some info missing here on how she ended up with a son at all...)

Noriko set off on a sea adventure and was never heard from again
the beverage-making enterprise killed Ganu's mother

Ganu does scientific experiments, an accomplished lead ocean scientist, and very big
Ganu's cousin takes over Noriko's drink business

Page 3

Is where it gets a little interesting. Up to now, th paragraphs are short.
Page 3 has 2 larger paragraphs and quite an excessive amount of exclamation marks: (13)

(p1)
else!!!!
all!!
whale!!!
find!

(p2)
earth!
freshness!!

2 paragraphs
12 lines

Characters introduced:
-0-

Locations:
on the deep ocean floor, under amazing pressure and in the most extreme cold

Page 4

Exclamation marks: 12

(p1)
SLUSHO!
life!!!!!! (<---6)
(p2)
SLUSHO!
SLUSHO!

last line:
SIX!!!

2 paragraphs
1 end line

Obvious connection: satoshi @ slusho - Ganu's cousin
Exclamation marks emphasizing certain words/sentences

1. clues
2. arrange words/sentences in order of amount of exclamation marks?

Screenshots of SLUSHO! History

There are one or two places where the spacing is off but it may mean nothing at all. Here are screenshots of each page on Slusho History.

Anyone here feel like tackling some Japanese translation?

There is plenty of Japanese on the site, only one bit of which has been translated. We have a report that the Japanese on the bottom of the main page (which is preceded by the number "6") translates roughly to "You Can't Drink Just Six". There's plenty more.

When you mouse over the big bubbles on the main page, you get the English title of the page to which they link and some Japanese above that.

However, when you go to each page, there is Japanese along the bottom row of each. Those lead to the individual pages, but are not always the same kanji as were used on the main page. Some of the "words" are completely different and some are in a different order than on the main page.

Is there anyone who can get a translation of all that for us?

SLUSHO CONNECTION

On July 9 a poster "guest" showed up in the gazillion page long thread and provided a link to the hidef quality trailer. Since it was far better quality, I and others jumped into the feeding frenzy looking for anything and everything clueish. LINK PAGE 44

After several of us grabbed lots of clearer screen shots of the trailer scenes, another poster, Grist, who is now officially a god, pointed out that:

Quote:
That guy that says "Think we can see something from the roof?" has a shirt that has a Slusho logo on it. So i go to www.slusho.com which redirects me to http://www.slusho.jp/

How long has that site been there?
LINK PAGE 46

Grist was referring to the scene where the group are gathered around the tv watching the news report, and the guy wearing a button up shirt over a tshirt turns toward the camera and asks if they thought they could see something from the roof. As he turns toward the camera, a brief, but relatively clear visual of the front of his tshirt reveals the Slusho! and the cup.

Whois information revealed the site was created in May of this year (right, 2 months ago).

The relevance to Slusho! is that it is a fictional drink that was featured in an episode of "Alias" - one of JJ ABrams' prduced shows that ended last year.

Since there is no valid reason for a fictional drink to have its own website nearly a year after it was used/introduced in an episode of a show that's not currently running, and (the Slusho! website) having been created 2 months before the airing of the trailer in theaters, and a cirsumstantial piece of evidence that 1. the website is using a specific visitor tracker via google called "urchin-tracker" that is also being used on the 1-18-08 website, and 2. that the recent email confirmation from Abrams to AICN reveals there are more than just the 1-18 site to be found, it is highly suggestive that the Slusho! website is directly connected to the 1-18 website.

Slusho! website is English/Japanese, Rob is going to Japan, hence the party, there are a lot of Asian elements shown in the trailer during the party. the "let's go to the roof" guy is wearing the Slusho! tshirt (and again, the drink is fictional!).

My personal 20/20-esque theory/speculation is that this was the clue shown in the 2nd picture that was added to the 1-18 website two days after the release of the trailer when people found the site and began showing up. This photo shows the guy wearing the Slusho! tshirt feeding a drink (mixed drink i.e. libation) to Rob (the main dude). There was a visual emphasis on this drink theme...and the Slusho! site's history explains what the Slusho! is and how it came to be.

Added are a couple relevant photos for your convenience. That is how the Slusho! connection fits into the picture so far.

Ganu's Cousin

The WHOIS for www.slusho.com reveals:

Registrant:
Satoshi Kagashima
ATTN: SLUSHO.COM
c/o Network Solutions
P.O. Box 447
Herndon, VA. 20172-0447

Domain Name: SLUSHO.COM

Administrative Contact, Technical Contact:
Satoshi Kagashima xt8vd65h5huSPLATnetworksolutionsprivateregistration.com
ATTN: SLUSHO.COM
c/o Network Solutions
P.O. Box 447
Herndon, VA 20172-0447
570-708-8780

The History provides this information:

She left behind her only son, Ganu! Ganu also liked to experiment, but not with the beverage-making enterprise that killed his mother, but for science!

He abandoned his mother's drink business to his cousin

and

He re-joined with his cousin, and combining the incredible drink-making
knowledge of Noriko's business with the new ingredient, SLUSHO! came to life!!!!!!

The feedback page lists this email address:

Satoshi @ slusho.jp

Ganu's cousin's name is not given, but considering this information coms from the Slusho! website itself, we can deduce that both Ganu and his cousin own/operate the website.

Emailing the feedback email results in an autoreply.

Searching on Satoshi Kagashima just results in all the UG references so we're back where we began.

Now according to this story, Ganu and his cousin have gone into business together and founded Slusho! together - hence the website itself, which was registered to Satoshi Kagashima, and is also named in the email addresss. This is why I make the connection that the contact and site owner Satoshi is Ganu's unnamed cousin.

Code in the Cups?

I don't want to lose any steam on this part of the puzzle:

JHarmon wrote:
Anyone looked into the assortment of cups on the slusho page. I'm in a weird mental state right now, and I'm thinking some sort of I-Ching binary based on empty and full cups, but I'm just crazy.

^What I'm talking about, for reference.

The obvious first option for these cups was to try Morse code. Using empty up = dot and full cup = dash, and assuming any cup that is slightly raised means that symbol alone (single dot = E, single dash = T), I came up with this first:

(left to right) I R S E and A A T S

Plug those into the anagram server at http://wordsmith.org/anagram/index.html and the most interesting result (given the Slusho! history) was SEA ASTIR.

But then I tried it from Right to Left (how Japanese is written) and came up with this even more promising result:

(right to left) E T C and E S R I

Put THAT through the anagram server, and the biggest result is SECRET I.

But that's as far as I can get! I'm too exhausted to try anything else - can someone put this to use??

When searching for Japanese names it might be worth it to invert the family and given name.

Tried searching for the whole Yoshida clan on google. Got some research notes and tech trademarks and crap but I think it's all coincidence.

Yoshida Noriko is apparently a successful Japanese TV and film writer though. Looks like soaps. Probably nothing. http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Yoshida_Noriko

Apparently Ryouta means "refreshing and thick." Possible pseudonym? Stolen from here:

Anyone else stuck on the whole horse/oven mitt and fish/cheese thing?

seahorse is to oven mitt
as
fish is to cheese

I think between the cups, these two thought bubbles, and the names there's got to be something fairly easy that we're missing...
