EMAIL: From Prof. Whiting

I have sent an email to Dale for advice.

Dear Ursulla:

I have taken some time this evening to examine this website you referred me to -- this missingmanuscript.com. Please understand that what I tell you is based solely on the brief observations of the photos and text that is available on this site. To truly test the veracity of any of these 'pages', I would have to have them in my possession. There are certain tests which can be run to date the vintage of the paper a document is written upon, or to examine them for traces of hidden writing -- that would yield a much higher degree of surety than third hand inspection of photographic
evidence (which itself could always be doctored). Still, here are my extremely preliminary conclusions:

1) I do indeed have reason to believe that Johannes Trithemius did begin the writing of a 'Fourth Book' of the Steganographia, one that was intended to reveal his secret knowledge to the world. At the same time, I have grave doubts whether this work was finished prior to his death.

2) Based solely on a long distance examination of the photos you sent me, it is my opinion that the pages shown here are NOT part of this Fourth Mansucript, but are copies of a more recent vintage. Again, I would have to have the pages themselves in my possession to verify this with any
accuracy.

3) The nine symbols you refer to do not at first glance seem familiar to me. The services of myself, or a similarly talented translator, may provide a means of understanding these symbols. Let me know if you are in a position to contract out this work to me. (What is that supposed to mean?)

Sincerely,
Richard Whiting

No, I don't think he can be trusted. He sure wants to get his hands on those pages. Shocked

So if this is more recent, who wrote it? He does say copies, so does that mean he thinks the info is genuine? I wonder.

He sure does seem confident that you are going to pay him for his services (and hand over the manuscripts!?!). I think not. I don't trust him either, Myssfitz.

Contract out the work to me=Hire. But it is an odd phrase. SPEC: Contractors usually build Houses. Yes? Who do we know who builds houses.... SOD.
