Correct, the thing I think will cause a problem is that the stars change the thickness is so many places that it may not read at all, of course, I have been wrong many times before Smile

Well, you would always use the modified version... assuming that's legal....

Hmmm...well....does that render the barcodes useless or what? I'm still puzzled on what we're supposed to be figuring out!

I mean, either this puppetmaster is really good, or really bad, and I can't decide which!

So in this case the check digit is 7 making the full barcode 207246 971877. for those of you looking for things with the number maybe that will help?

gcdoa,

using this number in upcdatabase.com

i get this website: (super-wide link reduced -- click here) (or here without the session ID)

which says:
Quote:

Random Weight UPC
Random weight (number system 2) UPCs are a way of price-marking an item. The first (number system) digit is always 2. The next 5 (6?) digits are locally assigned (meaning anybody can use them for whatever they want). The next 5 (4?) are the price (2 decimal places), and the last digit is the check digit, calculated normally.

UPC-A
Product Code 20724
Price 697.18

but what that means, if anything... i dont know.

The barcodes can't be useless. I mean, why would the puppetmaster choose barcodes to relay a clue?

That product code you came up with, 20724, in case it's relevant, is Laurel, Maryland as a zipcode.

LOL Chronus, he was replying to gcdoa about the barcodes.

Since no one has mentioned it yet, I just wanted to put forth the information: the bars in a barcode are decoded using both the black bars AND the white space between them. The thinest of the black bars is considered one and then all of the other bars and spaces are sized in relation to it, usually between 1-3. From what I can tell of our barcode here, there are only 1's and 3's, no 2's. Dunno what that means, but it does seems a little strange.

Edit: Just to make myself clearer:
The first four numbers would be 1-1-3-1 (bar-space-bar-space)

Personally, I think there is a clue in it is postmarked in Nebraska, but from Lame Deer Montana.

Obviously, Lame Deer in important in someway that it had to be from that destination, or that Nebraska is important that it had to be mailed from there. I feel we are overlooking that.

Plus, if we are looking for what is missing, is not the return address missing? Perhaps this is what we are looking for. Just thoughts for now. I'll be on later today.

Small stars
Leo?

I've been lurking but, decided to throw this out here. Keep in mind it is a bit of a stretch.

The small stars (if they're stars, hard to tell in scan.) looked to me like the zodiac symbol for Leo. So, a quick Wiki of the Leo zodiac turned up we're currently in the Leo phase. Under the "Mythology" section it lists Leo being associated with the gods: Helios (Greek Sun God), Sol (Roman Sun God?), Ra (Egyptian Sun God), Huizilopochtli (Aztec Sun God), and Sunna (Old High German Sun Godess).

Dont know if this is the right direction but, just thought I'd point it out.
