Hydra i tried that with the images as well but didn't have any luck I think the answer is that there is an actual file/text encrypted in the image so you won't be able to see it until you decrypt it using a program.
Do you know the titles and authors of the books in the SL house on Stegography?

Thanks for that stary!
Steganalysis is the name given to the process of finding out whether a file has any steganography.
I have tried a variety of programs. Unfortuantely most of the programs only test .jpg images and not .bmp (such as one of the most popular ones StegDetect). Of those that do (like StegSpy) have not found any content in any of the files... *sigh*
Quite a good slideshow http://www.blackhat.com/presentations/bh-usa-04/bh-us-04-raggo/bh-us-04-raggo-up.pdf

http://www.4t-niagara.com/hitmail.html
which also tells me there is nothing hidden

I used Araxis Merge to compare the files and there is definitely something hidden in there. Each file is a little different, just like Hydra's pictures show.
Also I just read that one way to tell if an image has a secret message in it is to mess with the hue and saturation and there will be some static on the bottom of the image. So I checked it out in photoshop and there is static at the bottom, just like Hydra showed.
So we are on the right track at least.

The Nines Spot the Differences But I'm totally stumped. I've tried various steganalysis tools that I've found and hex editors and played around in photoshop. I know there's something there but I think we're complicating things. Something on the blog said it's obvious. I need to wash my eyeballs.

nod Hydra i'm stumped too, all the different programs require the use of keys and we don't know how it was encrypted. We've tried the simple ways of adjusting the images in photoshop but no result, i think we need a hint...

there is a new entry on gabriels blog. it's a picture of a mobile phone with a number on it. But here's the thing, click on the image and a sound clip appears!
It's overlaid so it's difficult to say what he is saying. Here is a summary so far ...
Hello are you hear me? this is Gabriel..signal on this phone is terrible...we're lost ...wandering around this forest for hours..and i don't think i'm alone here.. i saw this group of hikers...outward bound???..wearing identical t-shirts..chanting..over and over again..is that all there is..is that all there is...is that all there is..do i approach them...can help us....i don't know what to do... hello...hello
Will add to this with repeated listens, not sure what to make of it.
Probably not relevant but on imdb for the nines: John Rodd .... music mixer: song "Is That All There Is"
