Well it is a [spec] thread. A lot of the debating will hopefully settle down once we get more info.

Actually....

That's what we all assumed all the way up to the addition of the 2nd photo on the 1-18 site. And then that's what we all assumed all the way up to the 3rd addition of the 1-18 site, surely the next one will fill in the holes! Then came pic 4 and....nope. Finally a break with pic 5 and the discovery of the myspace profiles...and yet, despite more info we're still in the dark, now with flavors to create and character blogs to read and chat about books and movies.

But the gist of it is, more info hasn't really yielded any debate or answered any of the actual questions. I started a thread a long ways back asking the 64 grand question of "clues to what, exactly?" We don't even know what we're looking for to know what would be a clue or not. The stuff that is apparent, but incidental, has led to the most discovery. But no answers.

It's been more bait for the hook and we still have no clear idea where they hell we're being led, beyond just getting to the theater on 1-18. Laughing

The date has to be important

On the back of the pic of Lascano, Platt, and Rob, the note that Jamie wrote is dated Jan 2008. It is hand written, and coincides with the time stamp on the pictures. IMO this confirms that the movies does occur in January.

I agree; to me there is no doubt but that the pics, hence party, occur on January 18, 2008. The unusually high temperature, as I said before, is a deliberate inclusion in the film. Even if something like this does not play any direct role in the plot or the origin of the monster, things like this always have some symbolic importance. Again, mise-en-scene; Rob's favorite director is Gondry (not one of my faves, btw) and that director's claim to fame is his elaborate use of mise-en-scene in every shot to convey the message of a particular scene (to me, this often approaches beating one over the head rather than being subtle as a more talented director might be).

Very true, but here's too wishful thinking. Laughing

Good point.

They're going pretty far to show us that date. It'd be ridiculous to push like this only to change it later. 1-18=08 appears on all the pictures on the offical site, and other official media (grant usually in nondescript way.

I wasn't gonna pour gas on this fire because I'm on the side of the fence it's directly referencing the date for that reason - it happens on that date.

However, our resident NYer videographers more recently grabbed us some footage of the shoot with Rob and girl (Beth?) up under the bridge and I noticed, and commented in that thread, that Rob isn't wearing the suit - he's in tshirt and jeans. If that girl is Beth, then she's also in different clothes. If so, in the trailer she's only shown quickly and shoulders up but enough to see what looks like a beaded or some sort of straps to her top...but the footage shows her in a tshirt and something over it - hard to see what it is....and that makes me wonder what date they're on for that part in the movie...that maybe it's not 1-18 at all or at most, by that part.

Given what we know from the trailer, I'm wondering about the scenario they're up on to be able to take a "let's get into something more comfortable" break....when would they be changing clothes? Or how come?

Say the monster likes night-time. There are two periods of darkness on any given date: the early morning and the late night. So if our story begins at 12am on 1-18-08, it can still end, with a pause for our heroes to gather their thoughts and a plan (and a change of clothes), at 11:59pm on 1-18-08, in darkness.
