Piggy-backing on RedHatty's suggestion.
In your searches for info on the GC site, include the term '"Mystery" or "Puzzle" cache'.

Lots of caches are hidden with the need to solve puzzles or follow a story, just like in an ARG.

An example would be The Dragonfly Scrolls or the no longer active Quantum Leap

(Snoogans must be very well-off, indeed to have done all the stuff he did in that one. Flying people around the world and supplying vehicles and equipment).
