can anyone give me some tipsor even websites that'll help me get an ARG started? I have a semi-good idea and I'd like to start a small arg out. Thanks.

Unfortunately, there's no real 'guide to PMing' out there. Your best bet is to play a few games, learn as much as you can about ARGs, then ask any questions you have here in PM Help.

Just perusing the PM Help forum and listening to the ARGNetcast can be a huge help for a PM trying to get ideas for what (and what not) to do.

So I came up with an overview, but I don't exactly know how to incorporate puzzles into it. Here it is, don't expect something too good Razz

2407 - Humans have colonized all the solar system and are starting to experiment with wormholes. Rodents were sent through and survived. Next, an expedition was sent to the nearest known solar system. They are lost in a collapsing worm-hole. Scientists suspect they fell into the past. They develop a machine that can communicate through time. Another expedition is sent because it is supposed that the collapsing worm-hole is a 1 in 1 trillion chance. The expedition heads to the same solar-system and the wormhole collapses too, but they are sent to 2007. They fortunately have an inter-time communicator, but messages through it end up being jumbled.

I was thinking maybe have players unjumbling the messages but you can't unjumble random messages. So, how would I do puzzles?

puzzle and the maths of worm holes

There a lot of scope for puzzles here. The first thing is to work out witch core bits of the plot your going to hide in puzzle this will give you the idea of what type of puzzle.

here some ideas that would not look out of place in a worm hole game.

Gravitational redshifting [or blueshift]: as a massage gets sent throw a worm hole it will suffer a color shift. i.e. player get an image and that looks like a red bluer but with a like work in paint shop may be they can work its a photo from the lost ship and that it has a massage hidden in it.

Radio telescope: the players have to help the ships crew by pinpointing where the wormhole is in owner time, they can do this by looking throw the raw date of [a fake] Radio telescope that been put out on the there website.

Basic theory of relativity: players have to work out the times shifts of a using the theory of relativity. [the Special theory is easy, the General theory is very hard]

Topology: this all uses the mathematics of Topology so you could make a puzzle based on that where players have to find a shape that matches an anther shape i.e. a cup and doughnut. But harder then this.

best thing to do would be to read up on the real world info on Worm holes on wikipedia. then read more on the subject but a lot of the more hardcore bits of this you need a PHD to understand but you can stop before then.

Well, jumbled messages floating through time tend to make good puzzles, I'd think. Smile Caz gave a lot of great ideas.

The most important thing to remember, though, is not to just add puzzles for the sake of puzzles. Puzzles should have a reason for being in the story, and they should make sense in that context.
