ABBA, French translations, etc.

I tried using Abba for the Vigenere cipher, it didn't work at all.

I've thought about translating the French article, but if it has something to do with the actual letters in the headline, I think it would hurt more than help.

Compared to the other weeks, this is awfully hard. Anyone else besides myself wondering if there was some piece that hasn't been given to us yet or possibly the people that set this up forgot something? (I mean no disrespect to the company that's doing this, I'm just confused as to why the other puzzles it seemed like they were giving away the answers and this one is pretty blank)

It's possible they had hoped to keep us busy for several hours or, more likely, a few days trying to solve the puzzles. When we got through the first two so quickly they may have made a change to this one so it takes us longer.

Power Scents

First off...thank you to everybody for all the hints since the beginning of this game!!!!!

I don't know if anyone noticed this and if it even means anything...
On the Power Scents topics...The topic titled "more reading" (posted 8/24), she mentioned that the article is from a colleague from Grasse.
Then on the very next topic "more reading still" she mentioned "Kovacs sent me this one as well". (I italicied for effect)

I am wondering if Kovacs is her colleague from Grasse...I know her myspace says Kovacs & co is in budapest, BUT what if?

That would eliminate all articles except the ones from boss in budapest.

MIME WAS AN EXCELLENT TRANSLATOR

This was taken out of M.Szaglas last post. MIME is used to decrypt binary codes into safe text.

here is the link: http://rumkin.com/tools/cipher/base64.php

I have tried to use this code all night. I also tried using this as the passcode on the Vigenére Cipher. if this is the missing link for someone.. please share with the group.

Keith Buckler

Keith Buckler, Szaglas' british colleague, has a group named "Oxygen Sensing Group".

http://www.physiol.ox.ac.uk/~kjb/

Is this the group Szaglas is referring to when she said on her Power Scents blog, "A British colleague (sort of) sent me this one. I think he want to suggest that I have no place at the top of his group. But I do!"

I tried the name of the group in the answer box, but did not work.

If I knew how I did it I'd tell you
Solution

I was working to find the solution to Challenge 4 and randomly typing answers into the computer. Everytime it stated that my answer was incorrect. I went to type another answer when it stated that my answer was correct. I had not finished typing what I was trying to do, so I did not know what the answer was. I went back to look at the answer and it was nothing like what I had been typing and entering....
So I don't know how I did it but here's the answer...

Wow! All I can say is thank you for sharing it. I sure would like to know how you came up with even a guess in that direction.

Challenge 4 Answer
Possibly How to Find It

So the answer has 10 characters and there were 10 article headlines that came from either "K", "Kovacs" or the "Boss in Budapest".

How then are those characters derived from those headlines? I've been looking at them in sequential order - based on the posting time by Szaglas versus any responses by players.

It's interesting because I've been thinking in my head - okay those articles can be thrown out and those are
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the keepers
since she said to pay attention to the "hungarian" articles and that a "single letter" would be of importance.

Can we try to figure out the method behind this together?

I'm thinking they forgot a WHOLE section of clues, and we were just supposed to guess wildly and randomly.

Right now, they're pointing and laughing at us.

OMG!!! Think about it.. the only ones we were keeping were the ones from her hungarian friends. Those articles were"THE KEEPERS" If it was that easy and it had been in front of my face all night then I am gonna smash my computer

The Answer

I know this is going to sound really, really, strange...but last night (it was really late)...I had been searching everything I could think of...anyway, I landed at some website that had a bunch of pictures of Tigers with their cubs in their mouths, etc...no words/ text...only pics of these cats and their babies...it really reminds me of "keepers" like at the zoo. I'll have to look on my laptop when I get home to see if I can find the url somewhere...
