I feel sick

All I know now is...either I'm waaaaaaay off on this mystery or I'm trying to make it too hard.

I still say there are 10 articles we "kept" (from Hungarians) and 10 letters in the answer...somehow there are letters from the headlines that we took...decoded...then anagrammed into the answer...right? Anagramming has to come into play if the first article we kept has the same first letter as the answer.

Let's work on this some more. Sometimes it's much easier to work backwards. I'm going to spend today on it and tomorrow I'll start to work on finding more out about the mystery and filming my video for the bonus!!!

 I feel sick...and tired!

I am new to these games, but I love puzzles and codebreaking...or at least I did until last night.

I stayed up most of the night chasing ghosts like Balmain and Buckler, and attempting every cipher, anagram, and number manipulation on the planet.

I'm thrilled someone got the answer, but it is killing me to find out what the "method behind the madness" is. Does anyone have a clue yet how we were "supposed" to solve this?

I know i don't have the answer...but I really think ABBA has something to do with how we'll "de-code" those headlines. ABBA is a common pattern in music, etc: meaning (if I remember correctly) 1,2,2,1.

this might be something...ABBA can also be used to describe a rhyme scheme in a poem. isn't our guy gyorgy faludy a poet? can it have anything to do with the poems included in that article?

answer to part 4

I was working to find the solution to Challenge 4 and randomly typing answers into the computer. Everytime it stated that my answer was incorrect. I went to type another answer when it stated that my answer was correct. I had not finished typing what I was trying to do, so I did not know what the answer was. I went back to look at the answer and it was nothing like what I had been typing and entering....
So I don't know how I did it but here's the answer...

I think we still want to understand why that is the answer.

Headlines

I would have never gotten the answer....Good job CW!!!

Maybe we should only be looking at one headline...
In M. Szaglas first group posting she has recommended reading in quotation marks. When you look at the whole list of topics there is only one titled "recommended reading". The article she listed is titled Sold down the river Rhine and she wrote this about it:

Quote:
Kovacs sent me this. It's worth reading. At least the headline. Ha!

I think this is the only one we should be looking at. At what I still don't know. Any thoughts?

the closest i can come to 'why' is this headline:

Elite take private jets to new highs - "boss in Budapest"

It has all the letters for "The Keepers" but that's a pretty long shot...

thanks to whoever worked so hard to come up with the answre for this one... whew!!

For the lurkers & the players, just a reminder, it is really bad form to openly post solves to challenges / puzzles on in-game forums. I noticed that the power scents group forum had a post that just flat out gave the answer. When we do stuff like that, it really justs rips down the curtain we all know is there & makes the separation of in-game & out-of-game completely non-existant.

So please, take a moment to think about where you are posting before you post & if this WAS real life, would you really post the information you have where you are planning to post.

/rant

We now return you to your regularly scheduled game play Very Happy

The Enigma

"Pay most attention to my fellow Hungarian's recommendations and read those headlines closely"

That is what Szaglas said in her introductory post about the articles. Doesn't that lead you to believe that the headlines themselves are what is important? I have no idea what to do with them, but I keep reverting back to what she says.

Of all the brilliant minds working on this, why are we all so stuck?! Are we being obtuse or thinking too much into it?

More questions to ponder...

Do you think there is any connection to the name of the file that Tony Flair found in the hotel room labeled "Strategic Career Development" or to the book that Szaglas has on her myspace page entitled Perfume? below is a link about the book-- fascinating really...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfume_(novel)

one last thing.... what is the deal with all those words in red font listed under her general interests???

 The answer

Thank you to the person that came up with the answer. I know some might feel you spoiled it for them, but I am forever in your debt. My brain was so fried last night and today, that I never would have come up with that. So, once again, THANK YOU!!

Solution

Here is how this answer was derived:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
in order of postings, include all kovacs, k., boss from Budapest, and hate working 4 him. Go to each article and get date. Using day, count in letters. Don't use 'pre' headlines, such as 'asset-based.' This spells out the answer. The original clue is in blog where it says pay most attention to my Hungarian's (single) articles. 1 letter is as valuable as drops of lavender.
