Yeah, I was a blue baby myself.
Should we ask what trauma Robert experienced, or should we wait for him to say so himself?
And why would this person call him a sideshow freak and say he didn't exist?
I'd really like to email this fellow....

True, but let's settle with Robert.
I'm a little uncomfortable with calling him R.F., personally....

Maybe, when the accident happened, the person who was R.F. died and was lost in the subconscious of R****'s mind, only to be reappearing now. Sort of a multiple personality/amnesia combination due to a traumatic experience. This may come in with the PTSD discussion from earlier. We may be seeing a "Fight Club" sort of split here. This would explain not knowing the truck, remembering peoples' names, etc. If the formerly suppressed personality of R.F. is rising to the top of R****'s mind, this could possibly make sense. Of course, that wouldn't explain the email or pictures (or maybe it would, I'm not sure).

If any of the above is legible, please let me know. Just trying to get some ideas on the table, and maybe it'll spark something.

It would if he was sending them too himself. That is, the future him is sending them to the past him. That would explain how the sender knew the e-mail address.

So do we know anything about the corporation he was working for? Obviously he can't name it, but their motives seem very questionable and suspicious in all of this.

True. I understand the study of dream interpretation, but why would the officials suddenly close it right when the greatest psychological breakthrough in history was obtained?
I had assumed that this was a government project, so I never really thought about it until now.

Here's kind of an obvious question:

How did they come by the title of "The Red King Project"? Is there some significance in it?

It's looking like "Through the Looking Glass" is the most thematically pertinent connection. There's an excerpt earlier in this thread.

Well, the Red King, as mentioned earlier by jjason, was a character in Through the Looking Glass, who always slept.
Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum told Alice that the Red King shouldn't be awakened or else she would disappear, for she was his dream.

Whoops, beat me to it. Embarassed

Well, this whole thing certainly revolves around dreaming and subconscious behaviour, so Little Boy Blue and Alice in Wonderland are both definite references IMO.

I am wondering if RF himself wasn't the test subject, and whether the test itself wasn't a dream--but that doesn't address the fact of the video itself. I think it's safe to say that RF did, in fact, suffer some sort of trauma either before or during the experiment (if it ever occurred) that the e-mailer is trying to remind him of. RF is close to revealing the email address of the emailer. Hopefully, this will occur soon so we can get some clues of value rather than the hallucinogenic ramblings of someone who is clearly losing their mind. Keeping in mind, of course, that the emailer could just be RF or an alter-ego, that is.

The emailer mentions RF's wife (but not his daughter), so I think for now we can assume that RF is really married. This would be odd if RF is "not real" as the emailer suggests; it is even more odd that the wife would let him drive in such a condition, then not even be home later. The whole thing is, for now, impossible for me to follow and I'm wondering what, if anything, all the details about the test mean to the ARG itself. Do you get the impression that the PM is making this up as he goes along? Seems like we're quickly well beyond where this all started.

Bottom line--I have no freakin' idea what's going on here. Does anyone else?

I'm not sure if he's making this up as he goes along, at least I don't have that impression.
All I know is that there's probably a protagonist (Robert and us) and an antagonist (whoever the emailer is and the people who shut the project down).
Of course that's also speculation....
Personally I also don't know what's going on....

EDIT: This could be nothing at all, in fact I'm sure it is, but I might as well throw it out there.
There turns out to be a DC supervillain called the Red King who has the ability to create alternate realities.... It also turns out that his boss, Dr. Destiny, has the ability to manipulate dreams....

I think a big part of the mystery is that we don't know what exactly happened. There was an experiment or procedure done, R.F. was somehow involved, and now he's seeing all sorts of messed up stuff. R.F. claims that things happened one way but his stories are becoming more and more questionable as we see how mentally screwed up he is. He's a classic example of the unreliable narrator.

I think our job's going to be to put the evidence we get together and try to come up with the truth.

There's some moments that seemed made up as it goes along, but there's also continuous things like a line from "Through The Looking Glass" being used in the email, the repeated and emphasized use of the color green, that weird black mud/ooze, and a "little blue boy".

I'm suffering from a bit of insomnia and am sort of waiting for his next posts. Until then I wrote up some basic information after rereading his blog and most of this thread. Most progress made in figuring stuff out in WI came from posts like this.

Things R.F. Has Told Us (Not Entirely Reliable)

- A corporation hired what sounds like dozens and dozens of professionals to work on the "Red King Project" in hopes of creating imagery and audio of the mind.
- This project took years.
- R.F. was some sort of psychologist.
- It sounds like R.F. viewed the video live as it was being recorded.
- The Subject woke up randomly just seconds after the "reading process" had begun.
- It sounds like a lot of the scientists were pretty PO'd about this and made the Subject feel so uncomfortable that he made up a reason for his waking up.
- The Subject was intereviewed after the experiment. He changed major details about the dream that he claims woke him up.
- The experiment was still considered a success.
- The project was given a suspicously small raise in funding afterwards.
- The scientists analyze the video and interpret the person in it to be a defense mechanism against intruders.
- The project is canceled for no real reason before further development can be made.
- Some people who worked on the project begin to hallucinate.
- R.F. experiences nightmares and hallucinations that are both audio and visual.

Notable hallucinations: The guy from the video outside his house, WHY!? being screamed outside his bedroom door daily, strange black mud covering and coming out of stuff randomly, a little blue boy, his wife without an upper face, and people peeking out of creaked doors.

- R.F. suffers one random case of severe memory lost and completey forgets that he owns a green pick up truck.
- R.F. starts the blog and uploads the video shortly after the one year anniversary of the experiment.
- R.F. answers questions plainly for the first days but starts to get weird emails.
- Weird emails contain pictures of deformed people and text implying he's delusional.
- R.F. sees a double of himself at a diner - possible hallucination.
- R.F. arrives home to find his wife's car in the driveway but a note saying she went out shopping.
- ???

Things we have learned about R.F.'s "regular life"
- He has a wife and at least two daughters.
- It sounds like he lives in the countryside.
- He is currently employed on a boring project.
- Keeps in touch with former coworkers and is social.
- Has an acquaintance named "Sammy" that he can't remember but that his wife seems to know well enough.
- His first name is probably Robert.

Things the email implies
- R.F. had a son who died in a car accident on the way to a hospital.
- R.F. himself was hurt in the accident.
- R.F. was found covered in mud or almost drowned in a marsh.
- The people who found him did something to him that may have affected his brain or body.
- These same people may have saved his life.
- The person writing the email seems to call him and speak to him regularly.
- The email writer seems to confirm that at least R.F.'s wife is real.
NONE OF THIS HAS YET BEEN CONFIRMED OR DENIED BY R.F.

I've probably forgotten some stuff and a theories list may be helpful but I think these are all that really matter for now.

Yeah, I got that, too.
The twitchy head effect (like the end of the video) was pretty much invented by that movie, I'd like to add.
I'd also like to add that the game series, Silent Hill, is inspired directly by Jacob's Ladder, and the fifth installment has just been announced in this year's E3.
Could this be a Silent Hill 5 ARG?

I don't think so for SH. Silent Hill revolves around a God trying to get resurrected. The demons are basically species from the netherworld the God was in. I've pointed the twitch to D1ABL0 (who could be the author. He explained the video to me, because I was on dial-up at the time, and I don't want another screamer ARG).

The twitch was caused by the subject waking up, and things "twitch" in games and other CGI stuff when there's an error.

Also - wife without a face? "WHY?!"? The man outside his house? Sounds liek SK to me.

new post with email

Okay, so I've been lurking on this one for a while and finally am posting on it. He wrote another post this morning and actually gives the email of this mystery person:
Quote:
Shortly after my last update, my wife "arrived" home. According to her, she did have the car and I must've just been seeing things. This is true of course, but it did bring up some feelings of resentment I have towards the way she has started to treat me after the initial truck incident. She acts like I'm a handicapped child who actually believes in these things I know to be simple hallucinations. It's degrading. That coupled with the frustrating experiences I had gone through during the day really put me on a harsh defense. Well, she got into one of her lectures again, and of course that led to an argument.

So it has not been a very pleasant night in my household.

By the time we finally calmed down, I was too put off with the whole damn series of events to bother asking her about Sammy. I'll do so after work.

I spent most of the time after the argument trying to finish up some work that I would normally have done earlier, but my thoughts kept drifting, and I got basically nothing done. Between that and me leaving work early, I imagine tomorrow will not be very pleasant either.

I have given the person behind those mysterious emails the opportunity to step forward, and they have done nothing that remotely resembles an apology or explanation. I gave them a fair chance, but they wasted it. Oh well.

SST398SPLATYahoo.com

I decided to send off an email to this address. here's what I wrote, hoping to get a bite:
Quote:
I am writing this in regards to a person calling himself "R.F.". He has been keeping a blog in which he chronicles a history of an experiment that he worked on regarding dreams as well as his own personal issues since. He as mentioned your emails and appears to be greatly disturbed by them. Who you are exactly baffles him (and us readers as well) and any light you can shed on how you know him and just what exactly is going on would be a huge help. Forgive me if I seem out of line for asking but I feel his mental health is in jeopardy if nothing is done soon. Thank you.

I tried different types of searches but couldn't get any info from the email address. And Yahoo member search never works (I can't even pull up my own profile!). So if anyone else can shed light on that . . . . . . . .
