Just a hunch, but "Red King" seems to be a reference to the progressive rock band King Crimson.

The mastermind behind the band (and only constant member) from 1969 to present is Robert Fripp.

Our blogger calls himself R.F.
Another interesting find. I thought King Crimson broke up, though? I haven't heard anything about them in quite some time.

Also, good find on one subject for a PM. Personally, I was thinking it was Senor Bambos, the PM for The Wyoming Incident. The way the video plays out just seems really similar to the way the Wyoming Incident videos were. Black and white, jerky human movements, etc...

Kc is still together. Current lineup is Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Pat Mastelotto and Tony Levin. They did a tour last year.

Bambos was my hunch as well; I also made the WI connection. If so, this should be rather fun, provided it doesn't turn out to be another prank.

Hmm. The machine reminds me of "Nightmares and Dreamscapes"....

Can someone describe the video to me? I can't load it, I'm not in the states (and I don't have my precious cable).

The Crimson King went insane. Yeah, Randall Flagg might fit the sci.

question about source code (html)

ok.. i know A is used to anchor things.... but i found this in the source code :
<a>
Quote:
4638150968620656962

</a>

(disabled within this post)

I know sometimes anchors are used to help direct a url to a specific place within a web page. but...

i also noticed there are no other anchors on this page.. and my other question is: why would someone use such an long string of numbers as an anchor?

is this something... or nothing???

I think it's also worth mentioning that Senor Bambos was the one who originally posted the link to the Red King blog on another thread on SomethingAwful. It wasn't entirely obvious, like "HAY LOOK AT THIS SITE I FOUND", but he was actually linking to a bunch of different stuff at once, and the Red King Project was one of them.

It starts out with a wall of text giving a brief overview of what the video is about, says that we are not supposed to see this video and to save it immediately, and then it cuts to a CG, Tron-like world with a man standing still with his arms held out, as if to signal "Stop". Then the screen cuts to above the man's head, and his head starts jerking around.

In the video comments he says that the head jerking was a glitch caused by the subject waking up.

The head jerking... like "Jacob's Ladder" crazy twitching or like someone having a seziure? What was the man in the dream-world wearing?

It's also probably worth noting that the Red King is a character in Through the Looking Glass, who (apparently) dreams the entire thing.
wrote:
`He's dreaming now,' said Tweedledee: `and what do you think he's dreaming about?'
Alice said `Nobody can guess that.'
`Why, about you!' Tweedledee exclaimed, clapping his hands triumphantly. `And if he left off dreaming about you, where do you suppose you'd be?'
`Where I am now, of course,' said Alice.
`Not you!' Tweedledee retorted contemptuously. `You'd be nowhere. Why, you're only a sort of thing in his dream!'
`If that there King was to wake,' added Tweedledum, `you'd go out– bang!–just like a candle!'
`I shouldn't!' Alice exclaimed indignantly. `Besides, if I'm only a sort of thing in his dream, what are you, I should like to know?'
`Ditto,' said Tweedledum.
`Ditto, ditto!' cried Tweedledee.
He shouted this so loud that Alice couldn't help saying `Hush! You'll be waking him, I'm afraid, if you make so much noise.'
`Well, it's no use your talking about waking him,' said Tweedledum, `when you're only one of the things in his dream. You know very well you're not real.'
`I am real!' said Alice, and began to cry.
`You won't make yourself a bit realer by crying,' Tweedledee remarked: `there's nothing to cry about.'
`If I wasn't real,' Alice said–half laughing through her tears, it all seemed so ridiculous–`I shouldn't be able to cry.'
`I hope you don't suppose those are real tears?' Tweedledum interrupted in a tone of great contempt.

Just a strange twitch-like jerk. I'll try to make a GIF of it later for you, if it helps.

Also, he's naked.

EDIT: Well, not naked, as much as unclothed. It's an outline figure of the man. No clothes are defined, though.

This seems to be the most pertinent association, even if the possible connection to SK is plausible. Has anyone saved the vid in a format that can be downloaded and saved that isn't this google-thing?

I uploaded the video to RapidShare here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/47902829/7c7c1273a33652fb.wmv.avi.html

Keep in mind that this link is not a part of the game, this is just my own personal link to the video in a downloadable form. Also, the actual video file seems to be a .wmv.avi file. Not sure why it says .wmv, when it plays as a .avi. Either way, you should be able to play this in any media player.

Also note that there is no sound in the video at all. That's how the master copy is.

left a comment on the google video, just stating that it would be interesting to see more test materials, along with my email address.

there is a user on wiki with the name "red king" who has a quote relating to the alice angle, just for kicks. seems like the person is not involved as there has been no activity since 2005.

just crossing things off the list.

There was a new update today (the 9th) and also, a new comment he made on the blog detailing the 'test subjects' past and present. Since he seems active today, I am fishing for more info...

..I am interested in the 'audio' that was captured and am gonna try and get some more details on that.

not sure if this means anything but when the video gets to the head twitching it appears as if it no longer has any arms

AVI isn't a codec, its a container file and an ancient one at that. Why people persist on using it is beyond me. The video codec used DIVX 4 and the audio portion is flagged as encoded via MP3, so I have no clue as to why WMV is there. Odder still is that the audio takes up almost 500k of the total file space. That's an awful lot of space for nothing. Whoever encoded this didn't really know what they were doing or did it purposely to hide something in the file.

Well here's the thing, I've got a bookmarklet that lets me save Google video files, and it saves them all as AVI. Admittedly, I have no clue on encoding and decoding methods for media files, so it looks like the original video was probably a WMV, then, as the bookmarklet I've got saves everything to AVI.

Maybe somebody else has another method of getting the video.
