Also, the actual video file seems to be a .wmv.avi file. Not sure why it says .wmv, when it plays as a .avi. Either way, you should be able to play this in any media player.

Also note that there is no sound in the video at all. That's how the master copy is.
AVI isn't a codec, its a container file and an ancient one at that. Why people persist on using it is beyond me. The video codec used DIVX 4 and the audio portion is flagged as encoded via MP3, so I have no clue as to why WMV is there. Odder still is that the audio takes up almost 500k of the total file space. That's an awful lot of space for nothing. Whoever encoded this didn't really know what they were doing or did it purposely to hide something in the file.
Well here's the thing, I've got a bookmarklet that lets me save Google video files, and it saves them all as AVI. Admittedly, I have no clue on encoding and decoding methods for media files, so it looks like the original video was probably a WMV, then, as the bookmarklet I've got saves everything to AVI.

Maybe somebody else has another method of getting the video.
I was able to get it via the download link next to the video. Google auto-transcodes to AVC upon uploading, so we might have a problem here. If the person had the video originally encoded to WMV, that file simply isnt available. It may be Google that's adding in the audio track by default, but there's no way of knowing without being able to get at the actually original file.

Edit : Just a thought - this video is specifically tagged "abridged". Perhaps getting our hands on the unabridged addition would shed some light on this.

He said the rest of it was all empty, no video data at all, so he cut out that stuff... but then again, I wonder if there isn't more...

I think there is and that is the problem. Look at the subject in the video. He has his hands out, as if to block the camera from zooming in on him. Then he's freaking out/seizuring and doesn't have any arms. I know its a dream, but that makes no sense at all. If the video just started and its only recording what's there, what is this guy afraid of and how is he able to know the camera (or however he perceives it) is there and coming towards him? I think there must have been something that happened before that we haven't seen.

Interesting, but here's the what we know:

The "camera" cannot move. Rather, the world moved towards the camera. At least, that's what R.F. claims so....

This looks interesting, and the title's a great hook.
Is it too late to jump into this from the beginning?

Aight, cool.
I'm probably always going to ask this before I read a thread that's around three + pages. Smile

EDIT: has anyone noticed the initials R.F.?
That paired with Red King could be a Dark Tower/Stephen King reference.
But then again, it could be nothing....

Disregard that last edit and color me trout. I see this has been discussed before.

Yes I know it was discussed, but I think people are glossing it over. RF, Randall Flagg. Red King, Crimson King. There is a dark tower movie in the works right now, and there is a comic book out for the dark tower right now. I am convinced this is a Stephen King/Dark Tower reference.

It's not that we are glossing anything over, but rather that we don't have much to work with at this early stage of the game. Given more of a story, we will be more able to draw thematic connections. As for now, it's entirely possible that the Crimson King/Randall Flagg and King Crimson/Robert Fripp angles are irrelevant, though Through the Looking Glass does appear to be thematically pertinent. Time will tell.

True, that. And this isn't the first time a project or experiment has been named after a character in Alice in Wonderland (the computer in the Resident Evil movie was named the Red Queen).
I'm gonna stand by Stephen King for the moment, if only because I'm a die hard fan, but this R.F. guy doesn't seem bad at all....

I've noticed that, too.
Being that the test subject is bound, and according to the blog, it's the subject waking up that's seen, I suppose that, in his subconscious mind, he can't move his arms, and therefore he thinks he doesn't have any.

I don't mean to be a killjoy, but I don't think this is a business-backed ARG.

TOS for Blogspot:
7. No Resale of the Service. Unless expressly authorized in writing by Google, you agree not to reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, trade, resell or exploit for any commercial purposes (a) any portion of the Service, (b) use of the Service, or (c) access to the Service.

So unless Google has given permission to King Crimson/The Dark Tower movie to use Blogspot as a promotional vehicle, this isn't backing any product. Until shown otherwise, its more logical to assume this is an independently run game.

Hmm... well there goes that theory.... But there IS the possibility that they do have Goog's permission.
ANYWAY there's no real reason to find out what the ARG is about and start looking for actual clues. The answers always come with time.
The scientific team were obviously affected by the video they watched, and the higher-ups obviously wanted to study it confidentially. And there's still no word on the sounds that were heard on the video, and I somehow think that that's where the next clue is.
I must admit I'm pretty scared of what we'll hear.
Freakin' Wyoming Incident's scarred me for life....

this is probably notthin but it seems intresting this is from his blog...

Quote:
The project has affected many of us involved mentally, it seems. I personally experienced a short bout of night terrors, but still have aural hallucinations and, quite rarely, visual hallucinations.

there was more about the hallucinations if you read on down...he also give an explaination for the seizure in the video....

Quote:
NOTE: The close-up twitching at the end is a glitch in the video resulting from the subject waking up.

like i said probably notthin but why would a project have that kind of effect on people unless somethings not rite....it kinda looks like dreams guys trying to stop whatevers goin on and at the same time the subject wakes up.....

On that note, why would the subject's subconscious show the subject waking up in terror?
I mean, this guy was terrified, looking at him. And I believe the armless man (or the subject) and the man the "camera" was going toward (the guardian) are much different entities.
And, judging the subject's apparent terror, I'd guess the guardian's not a nice person.
Then again, the subject's terror was probably involving the experiment and the guardian was just trying defend the subject's mind.
But why the mental effects on the scientists? Why the "Why?" R.F. hears upon waking? Or the times when he hears his name called? Or the fact that he saw the computer-generated image of the guardian outside his house?
Could they have unleashed something from this man's mind?
