Parasites

Reading the topic about the blu-ray extras, something came to mind I thought I should share...

What if the parasites where engineered by Tagruato to extract seabed nectar from the monster?
They mention the parasites might have been the cause of mgp's awakening...

sorry if i just trouted lol

Interesting idea, but I don't think Tag would engineer living organisms. Unless they tamed them or something.

could've been tamed... then the super stimulating effects of extremely high dosages of SBN might have had unintended consequences...

Based upon what we've been told before by the various people involved in this production, this is a creature that's a baby but been at the bottom of the ocean for thousands of years. Now we find out that kaitei no mitsu is found in the parasites' blood, possibly from feeding on MGP (aka Clover, ATT, Cloverfield, LSA). It could however be just something the parasites themselves produce, or is incidental to their environs and/or MGP's environs. From the manga we have the implication that wherever MGP is, the parasites are. We also have the implication that there is more than one such monster, either in fact or at least in possibility. The military info in the Special Investigation Mode suggests that Tagruato was prospecting for kaitei no mitsu in more than one place, especially considering that the substance seems to have been in production before Chuai was completed. On the whole, I don't mean to suggest that either the parasites (SEATs, HSPs) or MGP create kaitei no mitsu, but if there is a tight relationship between them then there's a likelyhood that at least the potential for more MGPs to be waiting at other station locations, waiting to be stirred from their thousands of years of dormancy or development to emerge as babies ready to tear the hell out of whatever they encounter.

I hope kaitei no mitsu is more a substance both are exposed to, like the frozen methane some deep ocean worms have been found to feed on.

Today I saw an item on dolphins on nat geo that had a theory why dolphins perform their spectacular jumps. Guess what? It's speculated they perform these in order to get rid of parasites stuck on their body...

Tell me the movie wouldn't be better if Clover jumped out the water and started doing flips only to end with a spectacular jump over Manhattan while Rob and Beth watch beneath. But Clover fortunately lands on a bridge and kills Travis. That bastard.

Only thing that would have made that better is if rob and beth were on the bridge too and reached up and stroked his belly mid-flip, Free Willy style.

Fail. Both for what you said and for thinking that green day is punk. Or good for that matter.

*AHEM*
Don't feed them. Since this isn't my juris diction anymore, that's the only way to keep them out.

I hadn't really realized this earlier, but the fact that they say they did studies on remains of the parasites does confirm what I had speculated about a while back - that the one we saw rolled by in the triage scene did make it out of Manhattan intact.

Not just that they say they did studies, the investigation mode specifically stated that specimen was the one they dissected I believe.. *checks*

Specimen #84P was key in the Department's research in the physiology of HSPs. The yellow substance around it's mouth was initially thought to be venom; however, further studies indicate that it may actually be a form of saliva.

yup. So Brownie to Euchre

That is an interesting idea, actually. But obviously had they been engineered they wouldn't have necessarily been organic creatures from the start. Their yellow blood is said to have traces of Sea Bed Nectar (i.e. SBN). This in turn, heightens their self-awareness, reflexes, speed and power. All of it is really an interesting thing to take note of, in my opinion.

But why not TIDOwave instead of Tagruato?

I also thought up of something else concerning the parasites. What if they had known about Robert Hawkins? Heh, like an assassination attempt warranted by TIDOwave. They're against Tagruato, so why not their subsidaries as well? Is it just easy enough to assume that it was coincidence that they were being followed by the parasites in the subway under Manhattan? I don't think so. I mean, when you consider Ganu Yoshida being in the same vicinity (NYC) and leaving unharmed only moments afterward, don't you think Tagruato and/or TIDOwave played a part in this.

I think it's pretty realistic saying that the parasites were drilling for SBN. Afterall, in one of the photos of the Chuai Station you do see a bunch of parasites walking around on the ocean floor. And some of them looking like they're digging into the ground.

Here's an anatomy reference for the parasite's structure:

And here's the photo of them on the ocean floor:

I didn't want to add [IMG] brackets because these are pretty large photos and they're only stretch the page of this thread, which will in turn only bring annoyance to anyone having to scroll left and right all of the damn time, haha.

The yellow substance is not their blood, it's either venom or as the investigators feel is more likely, saliva:

You are correct in citing that they had Kaitei No Mitsu in their blood.

I appreciate that, as I'm sure others do too. Thanks. Very Happy
