This guy , Paul, has a pretty good theory that I'm working off of.
The guy 'Brad' at 1-18-08news.com says he has a 'source' that goes by the name 'Remedios' who works on the movie as well.
Remedios claims to have sent something against his gag-order to three different websites, and now two of them have been shut down.
Those three sites being:
cloverfieldmonster
11808news
1-18-08news
1-18-08news being the only survivor.
I did a WHOIS on each site, and these are the results.

'Brad' has a posted e-mail from 'Remedios' on his site that is supposedly from 4Aug07, 2 days before the site was registered (at least by it's current owner).
I'm not saying this proves anything conclusively, but this doesn't seem to be a trustworthy site. I think it's all misdirection . Corporate Shenanigans and meddling.
Perhaps those pulling our strings have been watching 'Swordfish' or 'Lucky number Sleven' a lot lately.

There's no reason to go into such a detailed paranoid hypothesis. When the simpler hypothesis is: Brad is an attention whore, which the web has plenty of.

Besides all the good points mentioned so far about why this is b.s. (the Fakery Bakery... ), the dialog doesn't fit at all with the Blair Witch style approach they're taking. To have Rob stop and explain the whole backstory would be totally idiotic. People on this forum have suggested similar scenarios (e.g., they bump into a wild-eyed scientist who tells all), but only as a joke - as a sure-fire way to make the movie suck!
So, no. This can't be legit.

the explaination of the monster that this gives seems too outlandish if this is going to be "just a monster movie" (hehe fakery bakery)

I would have to say that even the ROAR sounds like something that wouldn't come from a monster that is Majority Squid and a little of what ever the hell its combined with.

well it does say that it has more than tennacles... thats what I think throws this off, sounds too much like cthulu and I doubt JJ would use some one else monster (no matter how awsome that monster is)

If you remember that the one guy who sent that crap to 1-18-08news the first time said the monster had 1 trait that the Cthulu had and is it a surprize that this stament gives the monster tenticles and it is from the same exact site this is probably the same fricken guy and I hope that this is very FAKE!!!!

How the hell does a squid make an explosion that pretty much engulfs all of downtown NYC?
And I didn't know squids can live outside of the water

I like most of you have watched the trailer 20+ times and in no way did i think "squid".Im not sure anyone breaking into the business would ruin there chances of getting on another major motion picture with this much buzz by just revealing large portions of the plot.

weaponized ink?
For some reason, this makes me happy.
But seriously, anyone can make up some dialog claiming to know something and then post it on a site which then transmits it on virally.
And since someone mentioned

I'll happily point you to this forum post .
