It decrypts with the same key (pierredelancre).

My translation skills are really bad compared to yours, Smooth. I'll let you clean it up

well it was pretty much handed to me by Rogi.. he did all the separating of the french words, which I must say was a very good job.. for some reason my vigenere and the key comes out as gibberish.. i can make out some french words, but separating them is really hard.. Im not sure if its even working right, can you try it in yours and show me what that last line is, when run through Vigenere? I can most likely separate and translate from there..

EDIT: This is what I got when I ran it through Vigenere w/ the key:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Ce ciaete signif iepour etreso nsort, maisel len'et aitpas "streg a"duge nrebas que

Ce = This.. I gotta go through it by trial and error...ugghhh
[/spoiler]

This is alot harder than I thought.. this is what I have so far...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Ce ciaete signif iepour etreso nsort, maisel len'et aitpas "streg a"duge nrebas que

Kinda Sorta Translates to...

This ciaete means to be its fate, but it E does not conceal "streg only has" low kind

But im still workin on it!

I tink my best shot is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
ceci a ete signifie pour etre son sort, mais elle n'etait pas "strega" du genre bas que. (Possibly "Basque" at the end)

or:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
this was meant to be its fate, but it was not "strega" low kind only.
Maybe something to do with a "low" witch?

which seems to relate to:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stregheria

French

This is what I get:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This ciae means you to be his fate, but ellen' and does not have "strega" Basque kind

When you separate the words thusly:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Ce ciae te signifie pour etre son sort, mais ellen'et ait pas "strega" du genre basque.

Quick geography for those who don't know- Basque refers to a region (technically of Spain, I think) between Spain and France, in the Pyrenees. They have pears and they speak a half-way-between kinda language that I don't understand even though I speak Catelan. That's all I know.

EDIT: I read the stregaheria wiki- it's Italian witchcraft. So now our boy's French, we're being pointed at the Basque which are Spanish and French, and throwing Italian in the mix, too? I don't know. Could be, I suppose, but I think we're barking up the wrong wiki.

Strega

It's on the same page as Benedictine, Drambuie, and Jager...

Strega = Liquore Strega Pronunciation: STRAY-gah Notes: This is a sweet Italian herbal liqueur. Substitutes: sambuca OR Chartreuse

http://www.foodsubs.com/LiqueurHerbal.html

But green Izarra is the Basque version:

Proprietary green Basque multi-herbal liqueur in the Chatreuse, Strega, and Benedictine vein. Like Chartreuse, it comes in a different yellow variety as well.

Strega is the name for a kind of non-wiccan witch. Brent said his aunt was a non-wiccan witch, so this would fit.

Dude.

I just found this article about a guy named Raven, who wrote a book about strega, studied Wiccan but didn't dig it, and THE BIO WAS WRITTEN BY AN M.L. BENTON!!

http://www.realmagick.com/articles/40/2240.html

EDIT: now that I've read it. Raven is a cat who practices the Old Religion of Italy, after dabbling in Wicca. He's a hereditary witch (that fits in with Brent's aunt) and something of a subject matter expert on hereditary witchcraft and even wrote the Encyclopedia of Wicca and Witchcraft, which apparently is a go-to resource on par with Roget's Thesaurus.

But I can't think of what to do with that.

oddly enough the article mentions Raven's loft...
http://www.ravensloft.biz/

which I have had as a favorite for some time

anyway there is a link on the site to raven's bio
as well as a link to the strageria site

they all seem to be intertwined and run by Raven and his wife Stephanie

In case anyone's still puzzling over the translation of the last bit, my translation is:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This was meant to be her fate, but she was not a mere "strega".

I'm still slightly puzzled by the use of the Italian word for witch, since everything else seems to be pointing towards the French/Spanish border.

Wow!

Good job, gambler! That's the best translation we've had so far!

I too am confused by the Italian references. Basque made sense, since it's southern France, but the Italian really is a big non sequitur.

Great Idea!

I'll get it, if no one has yet.

EDIT: Okay, I messaged him all the translations and what research we've done (not like he's not reading this anyway- *waves at Brent*), and asked if he had any ideas.

I guess now we just wait for a response

Reply

I got this response:

No. Obviously this M.L. knows a lot about this stuff. I'll be sure to send it all in the e-mail. Send my thanks!

-Brent

I guess he'll be emailing ML to discuss...

He wants to know what time everyone will be available (for uniformity, Eastern Standard Time) for chats on gaia tonight.
