I guess what we have to determine is whether or not we all got different newspaper. I haven't seen the paper that came with mine yet (My husband told me about it)... it is rather weird that we would get Japanese newspaper if it wasn't supposed to be a clue.. considering the distribution center is in the US...

In New York, at least, it isn't uncommon to see Asian Americans on the subway reading newspapers in their own language. It would be relatively easy to find a newsstand in Chinatown and buy a bunch of issues out.

It'd sure be easier than having newspaper pages specially printed in Japanese for purposes of delivering a game clue. But what do I know? Razz

japanese newspaper

got my shirt, the newspaper was there but seems different than those posted so far. there is a pic of a baseball player but no godzilla(the word anyway). no english what so ever actually. one is pages 9&10 and the other is pages 17-20. but like i said no english so i have no clue what any of it say's.

my first thought is that it is for realism but then again the distrabution(sp?) center is in SC which is clearly on the package...so...that doesn't make much sense. dunno..my thoughts. Surprised

edit: everyones seems to be different though so that wouldn't be much of a clue, i wouldn't think anyway. hmm. who knows! Rolling Eyes

In Lost, they had a lot of clues given out where they used a different language to hide it. In a Sun and Jin episode you can see Hurley on TV in a Korean news show. The show had Korean writing at the bottom. It was overlooked by most, but some went in and got high resolution screen capture found out that Hurley was a millionaire.

Because of JJ's past with teasers, marketing and such, I believe there could be some good stuff in that paper especially if multiple people were getting the same page.

How was that a clue? That's in your face. We find out in season one that Hurley was a millionaire. It's combining their lives together to show how they all intertwined with each other, and how they all sort of came into their lives together.

I don't see this paper being much of a clue, other than using THAT particular one because it happened to have "Godzilla" in the sports section. If anything, this is just to emphasize the reality where Slusho is a real company that produces drinks.

Just like Lost used various life events to give it more reality, to make it feel more real so we could relate to it.

I got my slusho shirt today as well, wrapped in Japanese newspaper. Not much english on the page, and I don't read Japanese. The paper is dated 7/25/2007 and I got the top half of pages 17-22. Oddly, pages 17-20 were printed on different paper (much whiter) than pages 21-22 (much greyer/yellower, more like American newsprint).

However, there was what looked like an op/ed or special interest piece column called (conspicuously in English letters) - "Samurai Voice" written by Yumiko Hashimoto. It stood out because the words "Samurai Voice" and "Yumiko Hashimoto" were the only thing not in Japanese characters on the whole page. There is also the number (1868) - printed just like that, in parenthesis - stuck in the article. This was on page 21, BTW, which was one of the pages that looked like it was printed on a different kind of paper.

There is also a pic of a screenshot from a website on page 21, the URL is www.jal.co.jp/happiness/ but this appears to be a legit promotion from Japan Airlines and unrelated to anything in-game (at least at first glance).

Absolutely everything else is in Japanese characters, so I can't make heads or tails of it. Maybe the photos have some significance though, so I'll try to find a way to upload them.

I have not been keeping up the past couple of weeks, so I'm honestly not sure if this has some significance.

This may be important - I also have the top of page 21 - 22 with the Samurai Voice article. My other pages are the tops of 9-10 and 3-4 and 33-34. Date 7/25/07.

Two separate baseball articles: one featuring The Giants and one with the English letters DNA in the article.

It's not a Japanese newspaper, it's a Japanese-language newspaper from California (one of my pages has a few ads for companies in CA). The "Godzilla" clipping is just an amusing coincidence, I think. I got sports pages as well but no mention of Godzilla or anything like that.

The fact that Yumiko Hashimoto's name is in English seems kinda odd. Anyone else have Japanese names in English on their papers? It's the only English I have other than Samurai Voice, and it's a little weird.

It's common for names to appear in "English" in foreign language newspapers produced in the country. The publishers seem to realize that many of their readers also speak/read English, in which case it will be easier to recognize a familiar name if it looks the same in the paper. Quicker recognition and interest = more impulse buys on newsstands.

Although I'm about 100% convinced that this movie has nothing to do with Godzilla whatsoever, I think that the people saying that the headline "GODZILLA IN USA" found on the paper that comes wrapped around a shirt from a fictional company, that is part of ARG or viral promotions for a very mysterious movie about a giant monster attack on New York city, are pretty idiotic!!! I mean come on, these shirts are the very first official products tied in with this very cryptic, puzzle riddled viral marketing extravaganza and you are really going to say that the package is unlikely to contain any meaningful clues or little tongue in cheek fun poking. I mean whoever is responsible for this marketing knows that anyone buying any of these shirts at this time is obviously into the whole puzzle solving, clue seeking aspect of it as well. Saying that "GODZILLA IN USA" is just a coincidence is completely ignorant thinking!!!

For the love of Slusho, please someone scan the samurai voice article (Or more preferably, both sides of that article's newssheet). If everyone who ordered shirts got one, we might as well go through the effort of translating it into our native language, even if it is just for the sake of being able to read it.

It seems like different people are gettng different pages of the newspaper. it might be premature to say this, but its the first thought that popped into my mind.

maybe they'll ship out an entire section of the news paper, and we have to translate and combine all our pages to get some clue or clues hidden in the text through out the paper.

if thats not it though, its definetly something. it just seems like a lot of extra effort to put a japanese language paper in every box shipped as a joke.

mine is also from the sports section. there's some karate "scores" but there's a picture of matsuzaka (thats probably not how you spell it but I'm ignorant and drunk) and he plays on the team I worship and cherish (The Red Sox) BUT he's wearing a Japanese baseball shirt.

I'm think stock photo because he's 100% boston now.

whatever.
i love my shirt.
i think we should post pics wearing them.
like a cult.
