it's tough to deny the coincidence of the insider nickname of the monster being "the parasite" to this new ridiculous cuckoo thing... from dictionary.com's encyclopedia page:

Of the parasitic Old World cuckoos, the common European cuckoo, Cuculus canorus, is typical. The female visits the nests of smaller birds, selecting those whose eggs match hers in color, and replaces an egg of the host with one of her own; she usually lays four or five eggs, each at 48-hr intervals and each in a different nest. The young cuckoo, being larger than its nest mates, displaces them from the nest and becomes the sole recipient of its foster parents' care.

After spending maybe an hour yesterday evening listening to the trailer and reading through the 'Cuckoo' Thread, my girlfriend got tired of thinking up explanations for the sound and turned on the TV while I read on.

After watching for about 2 minutes, a news show came on, and its standard opening sequence (random news-of-the-world-ish clips) for some reason ended with a cuckoo-clock doing its thing and sounding exactly like an office building getting hit by the head of the SOL. After that, the first report started - with a close up of the SOL!!! I kid you not!

We both were completely speechless (and maybe a bit pale, too). This ARG stuff really gets to you after a while... I don't know what the report was about since my freaked out girlfriend switched channels, but I doubt it was about mystery-trailer developments on the internet. Since it was German TV, it was propably OOG Wink

Just wanted to share a bizarre moment with you.

I know it starts to get to easy to see connections all over the place.
You should see me after I just watched a final destination movie -- I see weird ways I could die for days.

I find it a shame the movie isn't getting any much buzz in uk.

They did'nt even have a trailer before transformers. Crying or Very sad

PS.DO NOT REPLY! I do not want another quote pyramid.

And why is that Altrus Very Happy ?

Why do we care that there is a cuckoo clock sound in the trailer?

Because it is wildly out of place to be there when the freaking head of the SOL hits a building? Anything we can grab at this point will be grabbed, abused, beaten, and then thrown to the wolves by the time we're done with it.

Is it possible that the Cuckoo was coo-ing at the half-hour mark, putting that event at 12:30 AM ?

That is what i was thinking about, but i don't know why abrams would let something go off at 12:30, maybe we should research the time of 12:30 am?

After much exhaustive research this is all I could find. 12:30AM comes exactly 30 minutes after midnight and exactly 30 minutes till 1:00am. Very Happy

Satoshi.
Again.

I'm sorry to be the only one who keeps posting about this. I mean, I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but that Satoshi site? I posted about it in the OOG/IG reference page that TINAG222 is keeping.

Well, his myspace account picture is a roadmap of the SW. It has two sets of numbers -- 4:22/314, and 1:35/88. From the map, it looks like the second number is mileage, anyway. So if you do the math, it works out that the person detailing their trip was traveling at around 81 miles per hour, and had a mileage of zero -- which is to say, I think, that they started their trip -- at exactly 12:30.

The map's been up for a long time now. If anyone's curious, look at my post in Tinag's ref. page.

edited because good grammar is fun!

I figure I've done my little bit toward helping the movie, I've shown the trailer to all of my brothers and thus got them interested in it.

I also found the parasite quality of the cuckoo very interesting the moment someone mentioned it. It wasn't really picked up by many others, as far as I see, though. Why is that?

The moment the monster 'interacts' with the characters for the first time (I accept throwing an object consisting of several tons of steel at a bunch of people as an act of communication here), we get a cuckoo sound. I see two possible meanings:

1: A mechanical cuckoo clock makes the sound at the moment it triggers the reveal of the little bird inside. It performs its 'secret' function, so to speak. I suspect this is the monsters' way of going 'Peek-a-boo!' at the audience, marking the moment it announces its presence. The explosion before that, the groaning and earth-shaking could hitherto be explained by more worldly disasters, but getting the ripped-off head of the SOL thrown at you should convince even sceptically inclined New Yorkers of a more otherworldly entity than, say, a bunch of everyday terrorists.

2: In addition to No 1, it could hint at a parasitic monster. Either the monster was similar to the cuckoos egg in a nest of unsuspecting parents - meaning mankind/New York was feeding it in a way till it was fully grown (Slusho! makes you BIG!!! especially when NY is spilling it into the sewers by the truckload and you are a cute little mini-monster relying on Slusho to grow on the bottom of the ocean), or the monster is the mother cuckoo, and we have been somehow nursing its breed. The latter case reminds me of subtle changes Slusho induces in people drinking it (Makes you HAPPY! Makes you BIG! Makes you DREAM OF DEAD RELATIVES WHO GIVE YOU ADVICE ON WHAT THEY THINK YOU SHOULD DO WITH SLUSHO!!!!).

I rate the cuckoo as a hint not to be underestimated.

You are looking too hard

I am a sound engineer, and I can tell you 100% there is no cuckoo. You are imposing sound pshycoacoustically over some very layered sfx engineering.
It's like the number 23, you can impose that number on almost everything (except 1-18-0Cool if you want it to be there.

I want the clues as bad as you all do, but I will assure you, they are not in the audio.

you should give up the ghost on this one.
