[SPEC] Could it be Cthulu?

Now just about everyone has their own opinion about this movie. Some say it's Voltron, Godzilla, a robot, etc ... Others think that this monster is Cthulu. I've heard on these boards that this belief has somewhat of a "cult" behind it.

Well now I am starting to think that maybe it is Cthulu. If you've kept up with the news about this movie on the other sites you know that supposedly there are Cloverfield auditions posted on showfax.com (http://www.showfax.com/role_selection.cfm?l=2&t=3&p=89217).

According to 1-18-08news.com (Don't know how reliable they are) in one scene a field reporter's lines are as follows:

[/i] –It's chaos. They've taken over the main hall and destroyed everything in their path. There are bodies all over the–

I see them! They're wearing masks! One of them has a-

So apparently we have either multiple monsters, or most likely, one big monster and tons of little minions.

According to the Cthulu page on Wikipedia:(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cthulu)

The star-spawn of Cthulhu, or Cthulhi, have a physical simility with Cthulhu himself, but are of far smaller size. This race arrived with him, but relatively little is known about them.

So could this movie be about Cthulu and the "Cthului"? Well I dunno ... For some reason this movie just doesn't have that feel to it, but then again I could be proven wrong.

I also doubt that these scenes are taken directly from the movie. (I believe this is also mentioned on 1-18-08news) So most likely, the actors were asked to act out scenes from other movies that had a similar feel to Cloverfield. So I'm not sure if there are multiple monsters or what in the final movie.

[If this has already been posted, I apologize]

First of all, I love Lovecraft.

Second of all, you probably need to read the reference threads at the top. We've know for a long while that it's an original monster and not Cthulhu.

Also 1-18-08news.com is about one of the worst sites out there.

Well, first of all, 1-18-08news site seems to be up to a lot of mischief these days, and I don't think they should be trusted.
BUT if the monster really would be "Cthulhu" or some other creature from the world of Lovecrafts, I'm pretty sure these books and stories (including characters) are owned by one or several publishing companies.

So, how about finding out who has the right to publish/make a movie out of something that has to do with "Cthulhu" and that way either Confirm these rumours or lay them to rest? 'Cause of it is indeed this creature, the publishers name ought to pop up somewhere in connection to "Bad Robot" or "Paramount"...?

Layin' these doggone "See-tho-loo"/"Ka-too-loo" rumours to rest right now, dagnabbit. It's been done before, and J.J. sure ain't doing it again. Now see here...

http://www.cthulhuthemovie.com/

http://www.cthulhulives.org/cocmovie/index.html

...creepy See-thoo-loo/Ka-too-loo's been put on the silver screen twice in the last two years.

You Cthulu lovers are a bunch of crazy cultish kooks.

Lovecraft's work goes public domain next year.

Part of the reason me and other Lovecraft fans had our hopes up for a while.

Ah... well, it would be nice but i think "J. Truant" is right, although none of those movies never were close to "monster movies" the subject of Cthulhu HAS been used quite a lot... But maybe we will se some of inspiration from Cthulhu in the monsters design, and that (to me) is enough! Smile

first off, 1-18-08news.com is NOT as bad as others make it out to be. While I cannot make excuses for Brad I can say that he did jump the gun a few times but c'mon no one is perfect. The guy was working on the site around the clock for christ's sake, he was bound to mess up sooner or later!

Second, I have no way of proving to you that this is true so either believe me or not, it's your choice, but I can tell you for sure that those lines are not from 1-18-08. I don't know for sure what movie they come from but according to my sources it's very possible those lines are from 28 Months Later.

I have no reason to believe you have any sources of any kind.

Also, I'm not saying Brad is a bad person, but he lacks basic critical thinking skills. Either that or he's an attention whore.

what does twat mean? (really, I dont know)
a month ago, it took me 2 minutes to check out that there is a new (or first ever?) Cthulhu-movie already, what make you people think there will be a second now by jja?
are you really hoping it is one?
you dont believe his "I came back from japan and tought..." story?
why cant you believe he is creating a original new monster?
dont you think whatever the monster will be like everybody will compare it to godzilla or maybe cthulhu anyway?

For the 19th thousandth time, he never used the word ORIGINAL in anyway, shape or form when referring to 1-18-08.
