Let's get one thing straight...

After playing for five or six months, I have to admit that I still can't keep all these warring factions straight! Smile So here is what I propose...

Using information from in-game sources (e-mails, chats, websites) let's piece together who's who. For example, nomad from www.three-o-seven.com has told us that the numbered ones and the 3-o-7 are one in the same. They snuff out people in history who are getting too close to the truth.

Other groups we have yet to fully sort our are:
The Nine
The Mythosphere Guides
Avalon
Analog
Any others?!

Please use facts as given to us by in-game characters, not Sally speced in chat that the guides are... Smile . If you can cut-and-paste the source here in the thread, all the better!

I think the sooner we sort this out, the easier it will be to piece this puzzle together. I hope... Laughing

Thoughts?

Greywethers/The Wish

I know, I can't keep them straight half the time either. I think I need a visual to tape to my monitor.

Well, here's some recent stuff and greywethers and where he/they fit in...

Quote:
turingprinciple: Greywethers and Sarah were catalysts for my
transformation. I now believe that they were using me as a
condui to travel between the different worlds or planes of
existence.

Quote:
You: who is greywethers?
turingprinciple: Greywethers is a term most recently found
in fantasy literature, I believe, where they are beings that
can grant wishes.
INPUT: is greywhethers the wish?
turingprinciple: The Wish as Dale Sprague encountered seems
to be an entity beyond normal comprehension.
INPUT: will we see the wish again?
turingprinciple: The Wish is a mystery - I have found
conflicting data. His motives are unclear.

The DEGs aka the Numbered Ones aka 307 are Analogue. See discussion held between Todd and Wes Keeler

Guides seem to be linked to Avalon, the banner in Digitalis' tent of a tower, reappears in the dreams of several characters. Bruce and Dale iirc.
This is also sorta implied in the discussion between Wes and Todd. (DEGs and Guides seem in opposition to one and other as would the two A's.)

On the other hand, the Nine could be the ones linked to Avalon instead/ or as well. Someone was directing Sarah to make her artwork, which included copies of Trimethius' 4th book, which was apparently lost. The word Avalon also reappears in Sarah's artwork, I think it was the Tree of Life bought by SCJT. And Sarah does keep harping on the Nine need to be restored bit. Then there is the Dale on a tower bit together with a sword. Conjures up imagery of King Arthur. Said imagery does seem to flow throughout the entire plot that we've seen thus far with varying characters having roles similar to those in Arthurian Legend.

In short, there are three main groups.
DEGs, Guides, and the Nine.
Then we have periphery characters like Greywethers and Sarah whom we can't quite place.

The Nine or The Keepers of Immortality
Quote:
Quote:
INPUT: Do you know the nine?
turingprinciple: The keepers of Immortality

AshGrove cemetery Puzzle:
Quote:
The path between worlds
Lies in the power of belief
The nine who exist here and beyond
With them in hand the way revealed

Sarah via DaleVision
Quote:
The nine can move between but have lost their way
Restore them to what they were and you shall be rewarded

Still Good Guys IMO......no evidence to the contrary.

DEG or The Numbered Ones or 3-O-7
Quote:
We are the ones who gave them the name DEG.
We were told that these "men" hanging about Aglaura had "dead eyes", and started calling them the guys with dead eyes, which progressed to "Dead Eye Guys" which eventually got shortened to DEG. (First ref I found was from elderofzion)

I believe "The Numbered Ones" are what Wes called the DEGs once we got into his combination/obscure book puzzle/email.

And the reason he called them "The Numbered Ones" (and we didn't know at the time) was due to his "Obscure book reference" which we have now found to mean 3-0-7.

Sidenote: I'm not sure how/if we were meant to find the 3-0-7 information earlier because I searched high and low for references in that book to numbers (to no avail). But it seems like a logical leap, that if we knew where to look in order to cross reference "Le Grand Secret" with "numbered ones" we may have come up with 3-0-7. (But it's just an opinion)

They do number more than Nine:
Quote:
synthasiadale: From the guides message about Wes, I'm assuming the "numbered ones" are the same ones that Wes had been calling the dead eyes
synthasiadale: The same people or beings leaving the strange graffiti symbol
synthasiadale: But again, I think they were the figures on the other side of the hallway from the guides
synthasiadale: And there were more than nine of them I think. I think I counted at least ten.

The Guides or The Dactyls
Quote:
Well we know Digitalis is one. We also know that Dale met "The Wish" after coming in contact with Digitalis. "The Wish" is obviously Celtic (judging by his brogue). There have been a lot of references to fairies in CTW....which a huge subject of Celtic lore.

They have deformities of the hand and they number more than Nine:
Quote:
synthasiadale: But back to the point, there were more than nine of them
synthasiadale: on that side of the hall
synthasiadale: so if they are the guides, which i think they are, they are not the nine

We've been told they have their own "agenda":
Quote:
synthasiadale: I asked the guides for "a way to find my family" and was expecting to be able to see them or talk to them at least, Diana and Meaghan, I mean
synthasiadale: Instead, I got again exactly what I asked for - a way to find them only, not Diana and Meaghan themselves
synthasiadale: It seems these guides either play by the same rules as "the Wish" or at least share the same twisted sense of humor
synthasiadale: I guess what I'm trying to say is be careful in your dealings with them. They seem to have their own agenda in all of this

But aren't entirely bad:(Email from Wes to Sam)
Quote:
Despite my misgivings about the guides, I think they are sincere in
helping us get Dale back tonight. For now at least, I think we share common goals
. The dead eyes are another matter. Avoid them at all costs.

Quote:
turingprinciple: OK i have found correlation for dactyls.
drizjr: What correlations to dactyls have you found?
turingprinciple: The dactyls are a secret society, dedicated to preserving and keeping secret the ancient ways of knowledge and belief.
turingprinciple: The dactyls are another name for the mythosphere guides.

Quote:
Dactyls: A body or group of sorcerers and physicians that originated in Phrygia, which also included magicians, conjurers, soothsayers and exorcists. They were thought to be very powerful in the Mediterranean region. It is claimed that the discovered minerals, musical notes, fire, musical instruments of which they introduced into Greece, Crete, and Italy. Hercules was alleged to be their leader.

SPEC:
Maybe this is a struggle between Science (3-0-7/Immortality Virus) as per Le Grand Secret - The Scientific way to obtain immortality?
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1987&start=0

..........and The Old Ways (i.e Guides/Druidism/Fairy Lore) - The "sacred old" ways of obtaining it?

With The Nine being what was once the moderating factor?
Possibly The Nine Unknown Men as the Nine?
Quote:
Their purpose was not to allow methods of destruction to fall into the hands of unqualified persons and to pursue knowledge which would benefit mankind. Their numbers would be renewed by co-option, so as to preserve the secrecy of techniques handed down from ancient times.

Avalon and Analogue ......I still don't get that part. Are they actually groups? Or places?

Okay after looking for the Avalon/Analogue reference that Valas mentioned, it could support the above SPEC.

From Todd the DEG/3O7/Numbered One
Quote:
"It is not your time yet, old man. Though once you served our enemies, you may yet be of some use to us. Go, and take these fools, and this message with you:We are the question and the answer, the disease as well as the cure.

(The Immortality Virus from Le Grand Secret?)

The secrets of the past joined to the wonders of the future. The servants of those above. As the old beliefs and ways fade away, we are the inheritors of the numinous. Soon, those who have learned what they should not, will find what price that they must pay.

(Science vs Old Ways)

The servants and followers of Avalon have no power here.Like the Nine, they shall lose their way and their power. You and your allies are but pawns on a board you cannot even see. The knowledge and power are the rightful reward of those who ascend. Now leave. There is nothing here for you."

(Avalon referencing the Old Ways becoming obsolete again, and Analogue being The New Order?)
