what does twat mean? (really, I dont know)
a month ago, it took me 2 minutes to check out that there is a new (or first ever?) Cthulhu-movie already, what make you people think there will be a second now by jja?
are you really hoping it is one?
you dont believe his "I came back from japan and tought..." story?
why cant you believe he is creating a original new monster?
dont you think whatever the monster will be like everybody will compare it to godzilla or maybe cthulhu anyway?

Perhaps they don't buy JJ's story because Cthulhu fans are grabbing to any sign of hope that this is a Cthulhu movie.

I would love to see one.
But for the, well, I don't know how many times this has been said since the buzz about the movie began..., THIS IS NOT CTHULHU!!

Abrams never said that the monster was original guys, he just said we need our own. It doesn't have to be original when you say your own, think about it. And twat means vagina(lol @ who asked it).
I didn't use to think that cthulu was the monster, but now i am sure of it to an extent. Cthulu is a american monster, written by an american author, which would make it OUR monster. And again, abrams never once used the word "original" but the cult that is known as unfiction has gotten their tiny little D average minds set that he did. I will pay any one of you 200 dollars via pay pal if you find a place where he says anything about this monster being original.

1) you're posting here as well
2) most of us know that he didn't say original
3) most of the people posting here are really new.
4) skip the insults
5) this would suck as a Cthulhu movie.

how does one person = most? And there are people that have been here for less than a month that have over a hundred. I am not convinced.

just let it go. Argue your theories, people, don't yell at each other and condescend.

Lovecraft's work goes public domain next year.

Really? I thought it went public domain like, 30 years ago... I'm reading "The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories" by Penguin, and I'm sure I've seen his work everywhere...

Check this: link to all his works

And this:

Wikipedia wrote:
All works published before 1923 are public domain in the U.S. However, there is some disagreement over who exactly owns or owned the copyrights and whether the copyrights for the majority of Lovecraft's works published post-1923 — including such prominent pieces as "The Call of Cthulhu" and "At the Mountains of Madness" — have now expired.

Questions center over whether copyrights for Lovecraft's works were ever renewed under the terms of the U.S. Copyright Act of 1976 for works created prior to January 1, 1978. The problem comes from the fact that before the Copyright Act of 1976 the number of years a work was copyrighted in the U.S. was based on publication rather than life of the author plus a certain number of years and that it was only good for 28 years with one renewal for an additional 28 years with the Copyright Act of 1976 retroactively extended the renewal period for all works to a period of 47 years [12] and Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act of 1998 adding another 20 years to that, for a total of 95 years from publication. Similarly, the European Union Directive on harmonising the term of copyright protection of 1993 extended the copyrights to 70 years after the author's death, which would be 2008.

In those Berne Convention countries who have implemented only the minimum copyright period, copyright expires 50 years after the author's death.[/url]

EDIT: It's always Cthulhu, Cthulhu, Cthulhu. What about the mad, blind god, Azathoth? Or his sadistic minion, Nyarlathotep (spelled that one right off the top o' me head)? Dagon, or any other of the wonderful Old Ones? After all, what makes Cthulhu so great? All he did was slide greasily about. Meh. Dagon has his own town, one that isn't sunken or dead. Beat that, Khluhl-hluhl-lool-thule-loole.

Hey buddy.

Notice I didn't say Abrams said anything about it. Because I know he didn't say original. I'm referring to AICN, which while not right one hundred percent of the time, has deep connections and is right more often than not. Add it in with the way Abrams said what he said, and we've got a pretty sure thing.

Thank you.

EDIT: AD, I'm talking about the end of the second paragraph you posted there. It looks like 2008 would be a safe bet for a corporation.

First off: JJ never said original. He said we need our OWN monster.

Second: Cthulhu is truely an American Monster.

Third: The insanity thing was used originally because of the times the stories were written in (according to some of his stories, you could become a gibbering idiot by looking at an eviserated corpse...please!). If you read any of Brian Lumleys Mythos books, you'll find the the main characters are usually taking the creatures on toe-to-toe (including Cthulhu) and not turning into RainMan.

Fourth: Not one single Cthulhu movie has IMHO passed as an honest-to-god decient movie worth watching (c'mon...Tori Spelling for Chrissake!?). If this isn't a Cthulhu movie, I'd bet my left nut that good ol' JJ at least took something from Lovecrafts works when designing this thing.

Side Note: With the word "Parasite" floating around out there, has anyone thought that it is one creature that happens to be a collection of symbiotic creatures that can wreak havok at different places and times and join back together into one big mother@*&K'er of a beast ("It's alive, it's huge!")

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

If you are absolutely, positively, fur shur, beyond a shadow of a doubt, may the stars fall from the heavens, may the sun blow a fuse shure........prove it. What are your sources?

I'm just speculating like everyone else, but you seem to have rock-solid proof that it's never in a million years going to be Cthulhu.

So, I ask again. Prove it.
