[TRAILHEAD/EMAIL] Master Of Ceremonies
Choose your own adventure

I got this today

Quote:
You wake up suddenly.

This is not your room. You can tell instantly. Something feels wrong about it.

You are afraid to open your eyes. You can feel the cold stone ground pressing up against your bare face. It is not an unpleasant feeling, but in your confused condition, it feels like a cave is slowly closing in on you. You reach your arms out, inching them slowly along the floor to see if they run into anything. They do. You can feel something hard and solid directly in front of your face.

Against your will, you pry your eyes open.

It is dark, but not pitch black. You stand up, and brush yourself off, unharmed in anyway, albeit very confused.

You begin to inspect your current surroundings. You were correct about the stone floor. Your feet rest on glossy brown stones, arranged in an almost tile-like pattern on the ground. You look up from the floor, and see what your hand had run into before. It was a stone wall, and four of such surround you. You realise that you are in a mysterious room, but for what purpose, you have no clue.

As you turn around slowly, taking in everything that there is to see, which isn't must, you see two dark exits.

One lies to the north.

One lies to the south.

You realise that you will not be able to figure out where you are or get home yif ou stay in this small room. You know you must move forward.

So,

Your move.

- Manse Master

I responded that I wanted to go north. This doesn't belong to another ARG, does it? I searched and nothing came up.

By the way, that glaring typo is annoying.

Here's the deets.

Well I used to love the old text adventures, but I wonder if this is a one person only deal?

Quote:
You hold your breath, and slowly push yourself through the door that lies to the north.

You enter a room that is, strangely, very well lit. Several golden candelabras hang from the ceiling, filling the huge cavity you stand in with light. The floor contains the same stones as were in the previous room, but arranged in elegant spirals.

The centrepiece of the room is a gigantic wooden table, stretching from one end of the room to the other, and containing, at your best guess, three dozen wooden chairs. The finish on the table makes you think that it is a strong oak piece, and the smell that it creates is welcoming and warm, but oddly pungent. Strangely, there is nothing on the table.

Directly on the opposite side of the table, to the north, there is a set of two small wooden doors that look like they have not been opened in some time. There is an odd yellow glow coming from underneath them.

To the north-east, north-west, south-east, and south-west of the room there are gigantic metal doorways, each leading to a long hall.

So,

Your move.

- Manse Master

Quote:

I choose to sit at the table.

Quote:

You sit at the table, expecting that a spiritual experience will ensue, perhaps involving the former inhabitants of the room, and others who have sat at the table you are currently at.

Nothing happens.

You feel stupid.

Your move.

Quote:
Go to the door with the yellow glow

Haha, I'll email him, why not.

Would people rather I choose north and then a different room from the hall, or south at the start and go completely differently?

Of course, this does depend on if he'll reply to me at all... Very Happy

Well, I emailed him and he responded, so I don't think it's a one person thing.

Quote:
Where am I, oh master of manses?

That was my email, obviously.

And here's how I chose:

I choose to press my ear to the door to the south, and if I hear nothing, I choose to open the southern door and head through it.

Just a suggestion from a brief lurker - Perhaps those who've contacted "Manse Master" should post their responses in the thread so that people can choose different ways to go and spread out, if this turns out to be a maze-type thing, rather then going similar ways.

Just a suggestion.

You press your ear to the door to the south. Hearing nothing, you tromp through.

You find yourself in a long hallway leading off to several different rooms.

There are doors to the south, south-west, north-west, north-east, and south-east.

Your move.

You walk down the hallway to the east and then enter the northern door.

You find yourself in a gigantic library, with shelves upon shelves of books. The dusty volumes line the sides of the room, with faded spines of green, red, blue and black with gold lettering along the sides. You pick one book off the shelf and flip it open to a center page. Curiously, it is written in an alphabet that you are unfamiliar with. You grab another book and flip it open. This book is also in the curious language.

At the front of the room there is a circle elevated from the ground, and in front of it a piece of parchment in a glass case.

There are exits to the south-west and north-west.

Your move.

Esteed wrote:
I take a few of the books for future study, and then I head towards the parchment in the glass case to examine it. I don't try to touch it or remove it from the case, just look as closely as I can at it while it's in the case.

Quote:
You look closely at the parchment, squinting to try to read the text on it. It's no use - the scroll is curled up, so you can hardly make out anything that's written on it. However, the more you stare at it, the more you believe that it must be important. However, there's no reading it while it is still in the case.

You have library books.

Your move.

Esteed wrote:
I use one of the books to smash the case. I brush away any shards of glass carefully with the book to avoid injury, and then I try to get a better look at the parchment.

So far, that's all.

You move through the door to the south-west.

As soon as you enter the room, you are overcome with noise. As it overtakes you, you crouch down immediately and cover your ears while shutting your eyes to try to shut out all the noise. When you finally open them, you see the source of all the noise - there are dozens of puppies running around barking at the top of their lungs. It appears that you have walked into a kennel of sorts. The puppies look of a similar breed, varying only in colour (you can spot some black, yellow, and brown coloured ones). You wonder why somebody would need so many of the same breed dogs.

The dogs seem friendly, and come up and rub their little necks against your ankle. You are overcome with their cuteness. One little puppy in particular seems very attached to you. He has an odd dog tag with writing and something gold hanging off of it.

Your move.

Quote:
You kneel down and read the writing on the dog tag:

Dog #314
HEALTH: Fairly Healthy
INTELLIGENCE: Very Responsive
NOTES: Only Responds to Breed Name

Your move.

That's how far I've gotten. I'm going to go North-West

Your move.

You walk through the doorway to the north-east, but soon find that your passage is blocked by some ominous plants that have grown out of the walls.

Your Move.
Going to try the last door

strange plants - sucking up oxygen? plants suck up carbon dioxide & turn it into oxygen.

Technically, plants do use oxygen at night or when it's dark. They produce oxygen as part of their photosynthesis in the daytime, but when there is no light they use oxygen to respire.

So, if that's factually correct, that corridor is dark. Or they're magical plants. Laughing

I went down the northwest doorway from the big hall with the chandeliers and table. Haven't heard back yet. Wish I was in the library though! Smile

I'm working on getting the parchment out of that case. Still haven't had much luck with smashing the case because it's apparently stronger glass, but hey. I shall find a way!

I don't suppose the top just lifts off, does it? Smile

There must be a way into it. Maybe you could search for a lock, key, hinge, etc.
