Oh, and it's still true: don't blame Bungie! Razz

AKQA, I would then surmise, is either owned by MS, or is one of their "industry contacts" =/

Well, 'twas fun while it lasted...

So, does this now officially count as my first ARG evah, or was it just not... er... "ARG-y" (For lack of a better word...) enough?

Eh, it's close enough for government work. I consider it my first ARG. Just a disappointing ARG.

Some ABO dude.

No. I want a link to an actual news site. Who links to a picture of a story?

Laughing Someone doesn't understand the concept of internal site. He registered on the 18th so I can understand why he'd be upset...

Hideous corporate backslapping, look at what we did aren't we good. No wonder it was a mess with so many different people working on it.

Don't mind me eccramer, I'm sure you dad is a decent guy Laughing, I'm bitter because I didn't receive any server swag, despite helping to unlock server 2.

It is also a big disappointment that we speculated what the story would be after the first server opened, I guess you could throw enough theorys around and one is bound to be right but still the content is there for somebody to do a better job.

It all just feels a little half baked.

I think it served it's purpose. It generated hype for Halo 3.

Sorry you didn't get swag. Are you out of the country?

Wonder when server 3-5 prizes go out? My theory was that they ship at the same time with each a different edition of Halo 3. That could be the delay...

Don't worry, I'm not that much of a fan of MS either, even though my dad works there. Hey, I even use a Mac! Also, my dad works in a totally different division of MS, so it's no big.

But yes, I too am disappointed in the way this viral campaign turned out even though I did get some server swag. It just seems like this article is saying "We don't really care about quality ARGs, all we wanted was cheap buzz" which to me seems really lame. I mean, I even stopped playing for server 3 and 4.

Me I'm an Linux man Very Happy and I kept an eye on what was going on but after the initial excitement wore off, well there just wasn't much to be excited about.

Yeah I'm in the UK which makes the whole SOTA thing annoying.

I would question how much hype is actually generated, I'm sure the wall street journal is actually more intrested in the shear number of products that are going to be plastered with Halo 3 on and the ambitions of Microsoft for its most important Xbox IP.

Far more people will be aware of it through traditional means rather than than IRIS which basically preached to the converted.

Did they just imply that ILB was money wasted? Knowing Microsoft, I'm sure they feel that way. Less is less and more is more. Most players are clearly disappointed with the outcome of Iris, with the exceptions being some of the very few who received swag--not that I would feel any different had I unlocked a server. Oh well--at least I can say I participated in an advertisement called Iris. Maybe one day 42 will be given the opportunity to revisit history.

Hell, I GOT SWAG and I'm disappointed. I came here for a damned ARG not some viral campaign.

EDIT:

Wow, that article was just... wow. I don't think I'd really be comfortable writing a press release like that knowing how upset so many people were.

Pffft. I don't even think they even know that people are upset. The guy that wrote this seems to think the whole ARG was full of massive victory and awesome.

That's just PR speak. Everything's revolutionary, exciting, and never fails to fulfill its role.
