That is a great theory but from looking @ the Slusho history page and the Happy Talk I think it can do with a whale? I dunno what you do you think?

Yeah, somehow a whale seems pretty prominant at the Slusho site. It may just be another little clue we aren't getting, just like the roar coming in at 6 minutes now at 1-18-08 site - it's screaming at us "SIX"!!!!

The whale hints seem to be about mutating or evolving. what ever the monster is it has to have claws to leave behind thoses claw marks in the teaser poster. Possible hybrid of things we have already discussed. Could have a whale-like head or maybe six heads.

I recall Abrams saying that he wanted to create a monster movie where the monster was something that America could own (as opposed, say, to the Japanese Godzilla).

I'm not quite sure how "American" a Greek monster is.

But, hey, that does leave "My Big, Fat, Greek Monster" as a movie title, right?

Although I don't think a precise Hydra would be the monster, there's no reason to think that mythical creature is not an influence in this monster. The Hydra was supposed to have lived at the bottom of a deep lake guarding a portal to the underworld. In a great tradition of fiction and folklore, many new stories call upon old ones as evidence and corroboration to support the verity of the current story.

I still think there's a lot of whale in whatever it is, and likely a sort of prehistoric proto-whale derivative. A Lazarus species has been used as a monster or basis of one before.
Anyone up for some coelacanth and chips? Oh, and a cup of Slusho, of course.

The Whale-Thing theory

I wrote this theory on 7-20, seems like long ago, but the latest comments seem on track with it so I pulled it out of the depths of the rottentomatoes thread that I first put it:
--------------------------------------------------------------------

All the theories put out probably have a 99% chance of being wrong, even the cool 3 biblical monsters one. This is no different, and it's not all mine. Others have posted whale angles, but I've been fond of it and spent some time playing with it, so I want to put my version of it here. I invite reasons why it's a stupid idea, but the journey is half the fun anyway. As they say, "It's so crazy, it just might work!"
-----------------------

I've heard a working name for the monster is 'parasite'. So, think of the parasite from The Thing, which is a great monster movie. Think about what it did to the dog and others. The Thing parasite comes from space, and is 'discovered' by Norwegians who dug up a frozen spaceship. Some have said there's an alien angle, so that covers that. At the end of the Thing, everyone is doomed, and Carpenter even called it the first of his Apocalypse movies.

However, there is no proof the parasite is destroyed, and is free to be frozen again in the Antarctic, to be found again for a new movie. A slusho is frozen ice, as antartica is. The slusho history says the ingredient must be kept cold. If a new team found the alien parasite from the Thing, they would be wise to keep it cold.

So a team could find the parasite, or maybe just the spaceship with some of the parasite still in it, and bring it back to a NYC museum for research. In NYC there is a 94 foot blue whale on display. Yes, it's a model, but maybe they say part of it is from a whale, with it's dna. It is the world's largest replica of a creature, not a bad target to bring to life. (Heck, maybe a penguin gets the parasite from Antartica and carries it into the ocean where a killer whale comes in contact.)

If the parasite got ahold of a whale, it could make one mean, weirded out monster with spider legs, tentacles, who knows what. And of course a huge mouth for spitting out the Statue of Liberty head.

As we all know, the slusho site tells the story of how an ingredient turned Ganu into a big whale in his dream.
Also, I still think the phrase "....it's alive..." is a big clue. You might say that if you saw something that you knew wasn't supposed to be alive, but now is, like a museum whale.
The slusho site also has the blue-oven-mitt thing, which many have connected to Orka/Whale.
I've heard audio comparisons that people have done showing the blue whale sound very similar to the cloverfield 'roar'. What would the sound be from a 400 foot super-whale?

[added8-29: Now there's a new youtube video comparing the sound of the cloverfield roar to a roar in The Thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhUrKZtav4A ]

In the Thing, the alien ship is found by Norwegians, and the slusho site plus Rob have japan connections. I know, it's goofy, goofy, but I think back again to the band from Switzerland (swiss cheese anyone?) called The Monsters, who have a label on their photo saying "100% Whale Approved - Japan and Norway".
http://www.themonsters.ch/Gifs/knoedel1.jpg
I thought nothing of that weird connection, but then read that jj used real existing sites for his games, like the Jeep site. What if he paid that punk group to add the label on top of their photo, and allow a password to activate their form? I don't see anything else in their history or material that references whales, so that label sticks out.

In the end of the Thing all the heroes die (9 I think). I've heard the cloverfield movie is all a flashback, so maybe they are all doomed there as well. Even if the army were called out to blast the 'monster', if it had the parasite in it, it would just infect people all around, creating a situation hard to contain. Lots of smaller land-whales?

After reading all this, I realize how insane this sounds. I hope I don't annoy anyone, but it's summer break and I have nothing better to do.
Besides, did you know that the name of the Norwegian base camp for The Thing was called GANU?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Okay, I made that up, but I was on a roll!

JJ put a polar bear in the Lost island, why not whales in Manhattan? Or maybe I'm still stuck in my review of Whales on Stilts.

just adding

just adding yes, it could passably be a monster with multiple heads (I have no problems beleiving this)or there could be more then one monster. the first roar came with earthquake (dont forget all the upcomming roars did not come with earthquakes, why not?) personally...i think there is more then one monster each with its own...unique abilities. I am sure they/it did not come from outerspace. Based on all the hints we have gotten, none have to do with space at all*the background is the only thing that ties to space, nothing else, i do not think jj adams would make a hint of this monster as single background), from the poster is looks like a monster came from the water and attack the SOL first. The 2nd roar came and with it was an explosion in the middle of NY ( think about what could possably make such a big explosion? a simple strike from his fist could not create an explosion that big). then afterwards the SOLH was thrown if the explosion came from the center on NY, and the SOL is out in the ocean then somthing is wrong there, either it had held onto its head until it got into the city (which i think is complete bs) or it/one has the ability to shoot fire.
If you read the history on slusho the story says that Ganu Yoshida discoverd a tasty ingr. out at sea and is used to creat slusho and it was so far under watcer that the pressure was high (BTW his mother disappered at sea to find this ingr. possably she was killed by the monster. just saying) he then took the ingr and made slusho... ok...first of all that item must have been precious to the monste(s) and now they are pissed because someone took it all.

There is one thing i dont get when u go to Shusho.jp go to the history are look at the animals swimming around, i think that their thought bubbles are huge hunts to the movie

and yes i do believe that Rob works for the Slusho company, if u look at his myspace you can see that he works for marketing and he was moving away to japan during the trailer.

Fish thinks cheese
Horse thinks oven mitten
octapus thinks hammer
(im really confused...check it out)

Go to my first post on this thread and you can see one possible theory on the thought bubbles meaning.
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20876&sid=e9d53296433facdd3ef28f01f0b6d85c

With the addition of the squid thinking of the hammer in the Slusho! history page a pattern jumped out at me --
Six letter word with double middle letters. haMMer chEEse miTTen

Who knows what it is pointing towards, could be Kottos or something else, could be pointing to JJ for the double letters and Abrams for the six letter word. I don't know, it's the one big clue that is unsolved.

Huds' comic book clue?

With Hud asking for comic book characters and his comic book themed page could it fit in with my Kottos theory.

His current book he is reading is Avengers: The Ultimate Guide (in his newest blog) and also among his favourite books is Ultimate Avengers.

http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=201294483&blogID=307054959

Kottus was a villain in the Avengers comics.

Another coincidence or another piece in the puzzle, I don't know, just putting it out there.
