That made my day Der. Probably the way it really went down too. Did you send it to the CM? You should.

Probably not - he might take me (or better to say: my alter ego "Per") for that "extra" guy who just stands around, doesn't say a word and dies...

(Which - by the way, would be correct. It's my face.)

But on the other hand... he might just take my word for it, saying that it is a "random guy" I found off the net...

EDIT: Sent him the URL... But it might give him ideas... Smile
EDIT 2: Sent him the wrong URL first Embarassed - it led to an action movie trailer I have deleted now so I won't be confused any more... Now he got the right URL - which may really give him ideas... Very Happy

<hack>

[Adding in: Sorry that this ended up so long...my intention was for a short post when I started it!]

Wellllll...we're having a time of it here in San Diego (I know
StarkRavingMad said she/he lived here...anyone else?)...so I've been AWOL & will probably only be checking in sporadically over the next...oh
sheesh..whenever I can! I want to...

On Monday, hell really broke loose (again!!--for some of us) in SD (though the fires started b4 that). It has been unreal since then. My sister was in the hard-hit Rancho Bernardo & came to take refuge here
at our lil' abode since it was safe at that hour...but our place has
been on the edge the whole time since then!!

My parents' house is in Alpine, & my Great Aunt also lives there, & my cousin is in the Ocean Beach area, etc etc...this is so surreal & huge it is so hard to take in. The evacuations are over 500,000...the largest in the U States ever. Katrina evacuated 50,000. And, of course, that is only SD...the rest of So Cal is burning!! (including "CM's" area...so give him a break if things go slow. It is very possible he is affected, even if not directly. --Eh? Bringing it back around...making it relevant... nudge nudge wink wink Razz )

If anyone has family or friends here, we're of course getting more local news here than the national news, so let us know what areas & we'll let you know (me & hopefully others here who are in SD that can get Internet access) what we are hearing/seeing. I know the phone lines have been jammed.

This is my 3rd time going through this in Southern California (lucky me...all the biggies...Cedar Creek & Laguna Beach before this)! I
guess I sort of know a little about it(??), but no matter if you've
been through it b4 or not it is hard not to freak out no matter what
when you see 500 ft flames &/or billowing smoke all around you for 3 days + .
And, regardless, it is always unpredictable. As this has been. It's a friggin' huge fire...or more correctly: 8 fires or more that have merged into a few larger ones...

I am exhausted. I finally started setting my alarm for every 2 hours just so we could try to feel safe enough to fall asleep in case we all
fell asleep at the same time so that we could wake up & check the evacuation news that has been holding at 2 miles to the south of us & 1 mile to the east (Harris), & a few miles to the north (Witch).

If we get through the night without evacuating, & 'they' (OK...i stopped myself from going off on a rant about being screwed because of the air resources that have been sitting here on the ground because of 'bureaucracy, red tape, & chain-of-command b.s.'...yeah...honestly...) control the front right next to us tomorrow, my sis & I leave our watch-posts to volunteer at Qualcomm. We have been so damned lucky so far, & we have talked extensively about it (our good fortune) (there isn't much else to do but talk when you are intently staring Shocked at a TV screen or computer screen, or listening to a radio, for 3 days straight). And, as I said, this isn't my 1st time...it is my 3rd. And, each time I have ended up right at the brink (though the 2 times before I was mandatorily evacuated while dousing embers with a garden hose).

I am well aware that here I first talked about my own experience, that pales in comparison to someone else's who has lost their home. I am not callous--nor oblivious. I am carrying it with me, and doing what I can about it. We've kind of been in a hell limbo...do we leave to go help, or stay because we are so close to finding out we may be the next to have to evacuate! Volunteers...or evacuees...It wavers by the hour...

As I said, my sis came from Rancho Bernardo. She found out a couple of hours ago that she could go home. Anyone who finds this in a search...PM me & I'll give you the cross-sts...

To the hundreds--probably nearing thousands--that have lost their homes (some potentially again) down here in San Diego...

I sat here for a long time trying to figure out what to say there. I am not sure yet. I feel much more than I can honestly find words to fit that would convey, without seeming trite or insincere.

OK. Waaaaayyy much longer than I intended. For a couple of days, I have watched & read so many other sites & forums with people posting about what is going on down here...& this forum is the 1st place that I have actually taken the time to post in. Thanks much, my ARG peeps. I know at least a few of you here that give a sheizen.

EDIT: HAPPY Belated BIRTHDAY AnalogWatch!!

And to think, all of this is very much suspected to be Arson. (Three different fires, Three different points of origin.) The lady on TV told me today that this is most likely the workings of a "Angry Adult White Male, who feels inadiquate in his relationships, and is very proud of the fire he has set"... heh. So much for racial profiling!

Still alive and well, Rabid? o.o

Heh. I have no clue what's going on with the fires there, I haven't really noticed anything in the wee bit of news perusing that I do.

www.freerice.com

all you do is pick the word that best defines the word you are given and a sponsor of the site will donate 20 grains of rice to the UN. play for as long as you like, its free and for a good cause. it also records your vocab level and your donation amount. mabey we can make a contest.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
my highest level is 40 and my highest donation is 5000 grains

I ran across this not too long ago. I don't remember how high my score was or how much rice I donated but my words started repeating so I quit. It is a neat little time waster with benefits to your vocabulary and to feed people too. Someone laughed when I told them the premise because of how little they are donating, but if people play and they are donating around 2 mil grains a day it's not too shabby.
