The more I listen to it . . . the more I hear a human moan in the background of the roar . . .

I dunno what i'm hearing, the original sounds like a lot of humans moaning together, but I just can't hear the words that the guy is talking about.

On the other hand, it scares the life outta my cat everytime i play it

I tried cutting it down 6 db because it sounded so choppy for me. I dunno if this is the case for anyone else but I attached my results which for me is a more unified, fluid roar.

Whale Sounds

The roar sounds like angry garggling. Some of you say it sounds underwater. I have a friend that works with dolphins and whales and it she says it sounds like a whale.

I found a site with whale sounds.
http://www.whalesounds.com/home/index.html

then click "warbling" sounds very similar!

plus it ties in with the whole "drinks like a whale" theory!

I don't know if it was just me. But when I heard the reversed part. I got a weird feeling. Like I really wanted to exit (leave) that window. Weird...

Yep.
Don't forget they had to get the roar from real-life sounds, though.

I still refuse to go back to 1-18-08.com after being so startled the first time it got me. Yea, there's something very unwelcoming about it.

Sorry for the double post, but after hearing these I think it should be given some merit. That roar sounds very very whalish to me, and the slusho story does blatantly state that Ganu's mother turned into a whale. It may be oversimplifying all this, but I think note should still be taken.

Definitely. It's either part whale, or akin to a whale. There has to be some relation. All the clues we have point us in that general direction. Though it's just as clear that this creature has limbs.

I don't know about anyone else, but whales have always frightened me; just by their size. And this creature seems to be much bigger than even a blue whale; how deep the roar is; the fact that it seems to just trapse through fucking skyscrapers, how it just ripped off the statue of liberties head with such ease.

No one else has seemed to say this, but this sound byte does more than just give us a clue as to what the monster may be. It gives us a clue about post production. They must be done/almost done the overdubbing of sounds. Or at least the monster's sounds. The trailer has to be coming very soon. Maybe within the next... SIX days? Maybe early September..

i would agree because sound is usually th last thing done in movie production.

this would mean that a new trailer could be very soon

Whales... underwater sound... why's this sound like Star Trek IV?

Actually, Star Trek IV gives an idea. Has anybody tried changing the clip so it sounds like it's underwater? Or perhaps the clip's from underwater and has to be changed to sound like it's above water.

Also, somebody mentioned that at about 7/8 minutes without reloading there's a sound. Did anybody else get that?

Like that bit in Goblet of Fire where Harry couldn't hear the message until he was underwater?

This is so obvious that I'm sure others have thought it and dismissed it, but does the roar sound to you like the monster sound from the woods in the pilot episode of LOST? IIRC, it sounds very similar. The character Rose even makes a funny comment after hearing the sound, something about how it sounded familiar to her. The comment was never explained, I don't think.

That's a lot of speculation based on foggy memories, though.

And unfortunately, I can't locate a sound file containing the LOST roar. If anyone could direct me to one so that I could compare, I'd be mightily appreciative.

it does kinda sound like it, the lost roar always sounded sorta like trumpets to me, i wouldn't be surprised if the monster is just as mysterious like say. . .a big black cloud of smoke with some kind of lightning thing going on that can cut humans to shreads and throw trees up in the air.
