[META][SPEC] 1-18-08/Cloverfield title speculation The title will not make a difference no matter what it is. This is why........ I want to bring up a valid point about the movie's title .
Just as an example so please hear me out.
If the title of the movie turned out to to be "Chuai" OR any other title that is hard to pronouce or identify with.
ACcording to many people Ive discussed this with, the movie won't be successful because it is hard to pronounce or doesnt ring a bell that its the JJ abrams monster movie. I strongly disagree. Here's why
They've managed to intrique enough people with no title that we impatiently wait for trailers, posters, and clues. And more importantly they even got some of us to buy Slusho! t-shirts and check into BUYING a slusho machine. ALL of this with a 1:30 teaser and a beverage website and a movie with no tagline or title.
Also, there has been infinite Cthulhu theories (which I know are OOG) but i never read Lovecraft and I had to search to find out how to prononce that. The possibility it could be Cthulhu still has excited a huge amount of people despite the fact that many don't know anything about Cthulhu.
So I believe With the buzz surrounding this movie already, They could title it in Swahili and its still gonna sell.
And as much as we may hate the hell out of what the title turns out to be, Ill still have my popcorn and bucket a coke watching this movie at 12:01a.m. on 1-18-08.
And after the movie premieres, whether its good or bad, it still will be talked about all over the internet and entertainment shows. Word of mouth is a dangerously powerful marketing device.

Chuai sells about as many tickets as Blagglepuss or Kwax.

There's been discussion about how we may or may not see a monster in this movie, but somehow I suspect we will. It may not be all over it, but I really think it'll be there. Some say it will only be at the very end - maybe, but in considering the title and the secrecy surrounding it I happened upon a different thought.
If you've seen enough movies, you've noticed that some don't state their titles until the end of the movie. Apocalypse Now is a famous example.
Now just imagine if JJ kept the title a secret, and we only had '1-18-08' to go with right up to buying our tickets on the premiere, and not be show the title until the very end. (It would of course be disclosed after the first showings in a given location and thus be changed to the actual title in information later.)
Wouldn't that just be a totally novel approach?

^But then what are the cinemas going to call the movie in their listings in the papers? It's a sticky idea, and no studio in their right minds would 'pioneer' it with a film this big. After all, how can you market that which you do not know the name of? The 1-18-08/Cloverfield bandwagon can only hold up for so long before the studio steps in and demands REAL marketing.

Ah, but how do you define it as 'big'?
The budget is small, and the cast is actually fairly small.
The timing is not that of a really 'big' movie.
Even the following isn't all that big. It's significant, but not anything like a Star Trek movie - which Abrams is working on too and I can bet you way more people are aware of that.
I think if 'real marketing' were a big concern, a movie approaching less than 2 months out would have had something more than what we've seen. The whole idea here I think is to prove the strength of marketing in this less conventional way.

I wonder how they realy keep track of that? I know this is a large forum and it seems like alot of people are following this movie...but the world is a pretty big place. We know they are global with this movie. How can they possibly be able to judge how they are doing with this unconventional marketing? Only 1-18-08 will tell no?

Wow, you're right, that would be SO JJA to do something like that. I don't know if any of you ever watched Alias/Lost, but they've ended both of those shows like that sometimes, so I can definitely see this. Like some crazy stuff goes down and then, boom, cut to a black screen with the title of the show, leaving the stunned audience going "WTF just happened?!?"

this might sound stupid but "I Dare You To See This Movie" would be a good title. I mean, nobody backs down from a dare.
That being said. I think it will be an annoying title. But like superfuzzzzz (can I call you S-fuzz? or not, it doesnt matter) I will also be seeing the movie on 1-18-08. Just not at 12:01. I'm a college student. I'll see it after school.

I don't see why they couldn't go right up to that Friday without a title. Theaters could simply list "Untitled" and everyone would know which movie it is. I doubt any other studio would release a competing untitled movie. Record companies do it all the time, just with the band name listed in the charts. So it might be, "JJ Abrams - Untitled", on Fandango and on theater marquees.
by the way, my vote is for "This movie f***ing Rocks!"

As I said in my rant.
1) The name of the movie.
There this only a couple of movies that marketed the
merchandised without the title on the products. I know of only one
to do it recently, successfully on T-shirts.
Do not be surprized to see Slusho on the end of the new trailer.
Besides I already bought my Slusho shirts to give as gift this Christmas.

slusho is a lame title for the movie. However it is the only "title" that has something to do with the movie so far.
