Finally
As someone who just hit a decade...

...working for the company sponsoring this ad, and seeing our previous, um, "attempts" at out-on-the-edge advertising, I gotta admit I'm happy to see this. We've always been the stodgy, business-emphasized, no sense of humor wireless company.

Heck, we paid Super Bowl ad prices for the "Connectile Dysfunction" ad, which I thought was great, then never ran it again 'cause somebody got cold feet.

Confession?

Um...what's to confess to? Of course it's a bloody ad campaign; I don't work on the ad side (or even the wireless side, for that matter), so I'm not privy to the details, but it definitely looks like some unique business promotion. What, you couldn't figure that out after you posted 16 out of the 34 posts on this thread? Low Slearner alert.....

Geez Twitch, it was a joke.....get over yourself. No need to be obnoxious.

Maybe it's time to re-read TOS?

well, considering that the big funded games are basically advertisement for something or another when you get down to it, i think the question really was...is this some sort of marketing arg, or just a gimmick.

E-mail reply

Well, I finally got an e-mail back.

Quote:
"Thank you for your inquiry regarding the $10.5 million smartphone with
island. If you are interested in purchasing the island, please provide
your full address, contact details and confirmation that you have been
pre-qualified for a loan or have liquid assets up to $10.5 million.

If you are interested in purchasing the BlackBerry® 8830 World Edition
smartphone, please visit:
http://nextelonline.nextel.com/NASApp/onlinestore/en/Action/DisplayPhones?phoneSKU=SP8830RIM

Kind regards,
The Private Island Offer Team"

Well, I don't know what to think - an outrageous marketing scam I think. Who would go to the bank and get pre-qualified for a loan for 10.5 million dollars with absolutely no information at all - and no name as to who you are talking to in the e-mail (certainly not a professional business broker). And if you had that kind of money, I would think you wouldn't need a loan. I think it is exactly that - so bizaar they figured they would have no takers and so it is merely an advertising scam.

[edit - added the quote tag - kona]
