I've read that one of the first ARGs started with a book.
Could you give a link, please?

Thanks Rekidk.
This looks pretty good. If it is a trailhead, I'm in.

Yeah, it only played a small portion for me, too.
I just blamed it on quicktime being a betch to me as usual.
Is that an actual account of a killing spree? I'm not totally up to date on rampages....

From what I gather, there were no murders; she "killed" everyone in town by writing fake obituaries. I was wondering how a book about mass murder got named as a "best book for young adults," then I read about the book and found out. The pic with the numbers, BTW, is Houdini, who's mentioned also in the book, apparently because he and his wife used number codes to commnuicate with eachother.

EDIT/ the QT also stops for me after the first line. That opening line from the book won some distinction as the best first sentence for a novel the year it was published, so it makes sense.

 Website

Ok the website for the book is:
http://www.assimpleassnow.com
The best thing I can tell everyone to do is to read the book unlike Cathy's Book you don't need to own it but I do suggest you pay really good attention to it. I checked it out from the library and just sorta found the game. Its a good story so read it but it will get you up to speed on the website. Has anyone followed any of the links? I signed up for the clues but have yet to recieve anything...
By the way did it all stop on the same place for you guys? mine stoped on a creepy statue thing.

Yeah I got the picture but I didn't notice it until you said something about it. Any clue as to what it or the saying means?

Song

Cross referenced with site, it didn't actually appear on any of anna's mix cd's nor did the band or the person...I went to check the book because I thought the name could have a coralation to one of the characters but i didn't find anything...the interesting thing I did see was that the authors picture in the back of the book is just like the one of the musician guy with only half of his face showing

Sort of Off-Topic...

For those of you reading and following this mystery and those who read Cathy's Book...

What is your interest in this form of game? Do you think examples of these types of stories should occur more frequently?

Would you actively seek out novels, short stories, graphic novels, etc. that extend the experience beyond their pages?

(I'm definitely going to get a copy of this book and start unraveling the mystery today, btw).

The thing that introduced me to ARG's was Cathy's Book and I've always loved to read so any book that has Arg potential or purpose is great to me and I think some writers that I like could come up with great arg story lines and great args with the help pf a good puppetmaster.
