I can assure you, Aiobhan is NOT the Harlequin...ending that spec now.

Just havta trust me on this. I dunno about the clowns though...

Circus?
OK, so its not her.

You have to admit, this guessing game is getting a little old. I can't tell you how many combinations and variations on clown/harlequin/circus I've done now. The PM still hasn't logged in since Monday so the picture link is still broken. If that picture is the key to getting to the next page, then I can think of one harlequin that will be getting a spanking when we find her.

Just blending in with clowns, with her get up, not too tough. I even went as far as trying clowncar.

I agree with you Uber

Has anyone checked the myspace page for a hint lately?

I meant to last night, but got busy.

No hints there. She hasn't logged in since Monday. I've even sent her a note to fix the picture on this page and nothing. Hopefully she's scanning the forum...

Phantom.png? I don't think there is actually suppose to be a picture there. Phantom for the cipher key. The missing picture drew our attention there.

In the beginning it sure seemed like s/he/they were monitoring us.

ok seeing as though ive been only able to come online here and there, I wasnt able to show you the MS reply to a message I sent the Harlequin.

The message I sent her was:

Quote:
From: SmooTH WuN
Date: Aug 27, 2007 2:00 PM

my name is Michael and I wish to play your little...game. We have been following your breadcrumb trail and Ive come to realize there is a parallel between you and the fiction novels written by Laurel K. Hamilton...

"It is forbidden to speak of The Harlequin unless you've been contacted. And to be contacted by The Harlequin is to be under sentence of death. "

Well I have been contacted by the Harlequin.. am I sentenced to die?

I wonder..

Quote:
The reply she sent was this:

RE: My name..
Body: The Harlequin appears many places.
But I am my own Entity.

Everyone dies some day, Michael.

I dont think its important in any way, but I figured I would at least show it, just in case...

Just for kicks, I compiled all the bits of the overall story into one post and stripped out anything that seemed to just focus on the clues. I thought maybe it would help us figure out what we're missing on this current page.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Game Objective ?:
Can you unmask The Harlequin?
Can you figure out how you lost her?
Do you know what went wrong?

Game Story:
Remember me!
----
It will begin again,
This is just a stanza,
Leading to the refrain.
Wait for the masquerade to begin.
Do you have the patience?
As the dancers gather on the floor,
Anticipation rises.
Musicians take their places,
In a sea of a million faces,
All you can see are masks -
And all you can hear is her crying:
"Remember me!"
Saint-Saens plays his piano
The dance, it begins.
Imperative that know your next step --
Don't fall.
You can still hear her crying
"Remember me!"
As you dance through the songs
But you have imbibed too often
And now your head is hazy
You missed a step, and your partner scoffs
You thought your kind could hold their drink!
They do make the best kind, after all...
Dark, rich, and creamy.
You leave your partner.
She's not worth the dress she's in.
Besides, all you can think about are the diamonds.
That harlequin smile,
She stole your heart and you let her
It must've been that clover in her hair,
You walk out to get some fresh air, musing,
"What did I miss?"
The harlequin wears her mask well...
She is keeping something from you.
Perhaps you can tempt her into revealing her secrets?
But first, you must find her.
She is hidden.
Find her.
She ran away to vacation in,
What was it?
India?
No matter.
She will return.
You can lure her in.
You know you have the essentials.
You know the source of her problems.
As you make your way back into the party,
You muse over your next step.
Everything glitters.
It is what she wanted most.
You shouldn't have come.
Masquerade balls remind you of her.
You met her in the city they were born in...
The city you were reborn in.
You notice a girl floating toward you --
At least, it looks like she floats
Her feet invisible under the emerald of her gown
She holds her mask to her face and half-curtsies.
Dare you dance?
It haunts your thoughts as you enter the hall,
Throws your steps off-balance.
But you waited too long
And now she's gone.
Can you find her again?
Can you bring her back?
Will you ever see what's behind the mask?
You bow,
She lifts a pale hand.
You take it.
Hers is so small compared to yours,
You rest the other hand at her waist and as fast as you can say
"Four-Four Time"
You whisk her off into the crowd.
This dance is over.
It isn't the same.
You miss The Harlequin.
If only you could hear her speak once more...
There is a pause in the music as the hostess steps up to speak to the crowd.
The din of voices mellows, and she raises her hand,
"It is time to banquet! Everyone, please, to the Dining Hall!"
The crowd shuffles out like so many cattle.
You muse:
This is quite the gala.
As the masks drop,
You dare to hope that you will see your Harlequin.
As dinner begins,
You realize that she is probably still in India, hiding.
And then... you look down.
You stare, entranced.
It could only be her work
She's here.
Only she would know to leave such a potpourri of roses.
Like the ones you gave her.
You look down the table, scanning desperately for her face,
But there are many people here, at many tables,
And she is no where in sight.
Perhaps she simply found your name,
Set down the flowers,
And left.
She is here.
Now, you just have to... find her.
It's like a circus, there's no way this will be easy.
But then again, did you think it would be?
The Harlequin can blend in with the clowns.

It was never a guessing game to begin with. We were meant to look for something, and find it. And I did.

Way to not use google, guys.

That's about the rudest thing I've read on UF in a long time. Way to be a complete bitch about your solve.

Found what?
Googling to find like terms that may or may not have taken you to the NEXT part of the trail?

That and the fact that:

-A carnival isn't a circus, not even close.
-A carnival typically doesn't feature clowns.
-The name of the painting isn't even phrased as the solve.

But we're all just lazy, dumb, and can't use Google? OK.

The name of the painting is "Carnival of Harlequin", and a 'carnivale' does often feature clowns, or something like them.

I wasn't aware I called anyone lazy or dumb. I was just surprised that some of the smartest people I've seen on these forums didn't get a clue that I thought wasn't too difficult. I'm sorry if I offended you. I didn't mean to.

Hm.

I just ran the google search to see what it was I had missed that made the connection between that painting and the game. I can't find one other than the fact that the phrase itself fits with the game. So, I don't know how someone can justify what we've been doing as "guessing" but, call that solve not guessing?

EDIT: I find it kind of funny that after 2 days of this, thats the message we get! Laughing

My only point was that there is a much bigger realm of possibilities than just the Miró painting.

On Google, I get about 107,000 such possibilities.

ETA: Switching "Circus" for "Carnival" increases the hit count to 180,000.

isnt a carnivale somewhat different from an american carnival?? I could be wrong but when I hear someone say carnivalE, I think of the show on HBO with all the little midgets and freaks and bearded ladies... like a sideshow lol
