[question][spec]why do animals roar
a simple question which might lead to speculation

Edit: I tried to unsticky it but apparently I need java which my phone doesn't have. If a kind moderator unstickies this that would be great.

I currently do not have access to a computer so I cannot answer the question myself. I sm typing this on a cell phone.

With all the speculation of the new roar, I wanted to know what are the typical reasons why an animal would roar. Maybe somwone could wiki it or something.

The roar and the phrasew "its alive are supposedly the most important clues, but we will always hear different versions of a roar, even coming from the same animal. Therefore there will be quite a few roars and I doubt any specific one carries a message.

Instead why would it roar. There has to be some reason. Communication? Hunting cry? Etc.

It may seem far out but I think its worth asking thr question.

Ow my fingers hurt
Bye

Excellent observation and question!

1. Why Roar?
2. Why say "It's Alive!' at all?

Food for thought below on why animals roar:

An adult lion's roar is so loud that it can be heard five kilometers away. The vocalizations of different species vary greatly, depending on what the sound is used for. Those uses can include warning off predators, advertising their availability to mate, or simply stating "this is mine". Of all four-footed creatures in the wild, the roar of the lion is perhaps the most impressive, and certainly the one heard from the greatest distance. When a male lion bellows, it's estimated that sound carries as far as 5 miles.

Only four cats can roar: the panther, the jaguar, the tiger and the lion. For that reason, they are classified in the genus Panthera. Their secret is a two-piece hyoid bone in the throat, where all other cats have only one. The roar that can raise a cloud of dust, has also raised the hair of many a human. But exactly why do they vocalize?

Most of it has to do with territory. Both the male and female will roar. She, to protect her cubs from encroaching males trying to infiltrate the pride, or to call nearby females to help defend her young. The downside of this for the female, is that if she is warning off another female, she is also announcing her sex and location to any nomadic males, who will then approach the pride. However, it can also call the resident male lion, to put an end to any encroaching male. The dominant male will not usually interfere in a dispute between females, but can tell the difference between a female roaring at another female, and one roaring at a stranger.

Male lions who are nomadic, roar very seldom. They are either young lions looking to start a pride, or to infiltrate one and take over the females. Scientists say that on average, rule over a group of females lasts only an average 2-3 years before an aging male is ousted. Resident males are frequently observed roaring at night, the usual time they vocalize. They may simply be announcing their presence, or may have smelled an encroaching lion and are warning them off.

As to what I think, I think we have all the clues we need already. But I came up with my take on it.

Question 1. Why does something emerge from the water and start attacking a city anyway?

My Answer: It emerges from the water, It's been awoken by waste Slusho and has zoomed in size and it now needs more to feed on. It's just damn hungry now. Once it broke through the sewage plant and finds the food drying up, it pops up and the first thing it sees is buildings as big as it is... it's starts kicking ass and taking names later. It also roars because it sees the Statue of Liberty (Are you one of us?)...

Question 2. Why does someone need to say "It's Alive!"

My Answer: Because it's something extinct, thought to be long dead, or a fictional character everyone is familiar with but knows to be fantasy (Godzilla)... "It's huge!" we know already as it had to be capable of tearing off the Statue's head. I personally doubt we will ever see it in the movie. The suspense of anticipation is going to be all we get for a measly 30 mil.

I think another key item is on the back of Jamie Lascano pic, the smudged letters spelling out "Dawn" which is when this movie ends... Making it truly one of "The Best Nights Ever".

Another explanation to Question 2 could be that there is a statue in the city or nearby that resembles a large creature, for example a lion statue.
And through some combination of a Slusho ingredient and a certain mineral of that statues stone, it grows large or something.

It's a shame we don't have more clues as to what the monster can be.. Confused

Maybe it's searching for a mate?

Or it's probably pissed off. Although, most snarl and hiss.

As with Prime, I think it destroyed the SoL because it thought it was another animal. Some studies in Africa showed that inanimate Lion-shaped objects were thought of as another animal by Lions.

I have to disagree with the cats. Jay-Jay said it's based off Cthulhu/Gojira, so I'm expecting some sort of lizard squid. Of course, I don't know if they said "It's a lion" or "it's alive", even though evidence points to the latter.

Where did you read J.J. say that it's based off them?

Why would it be based off Gojira (Godzilla) if it'd to be our own monster?
