Yes, it's more viral marketing, but it has some elements of alternate reality gaming, such as interaction with characters through Myspace. I say that we should treat it more like an ARG just in case. You never know what might come up from our searching.

Considering the relationship of other ARGs to marketing, like Lost, Halo3, and others, why must a viral marketing campaign exclude something from being an ARG?
If there are signs and clues, and there is interaction, and the elements of the game being presented by the 'puppetmasters' are done as if the characters are acting as real people and entities - isn't it an ARG?

Playing devil's advocate, it's certainly not what I'd call a conventional ARG.

My experience of ARGs is limited but I thought the majority of them were like Year One or EdocLaundry where it was obviously following something with password/code word entries on web sites, codes hidden in T-Shirt designs and in the case of Year One, images hidden in sound files.

Obviously we haven't really had any of those yet.

even if this isn't an ARG, arguing about is even more retarded than believing it is. If people want to follow this as a game, let them be happy about it.
