Hey all. I read through everything, so I'm hoping I'm up to speed. But anyway, Lola, I tried both the links you'd posted, but I only got a "You are lost" page from the EC...am I missing something, or do you think this page was taken down after you found it?

It seems like it. Maybe I found something that I wasn't supposed to be found so soon..?

Weird, but yeah the page said pretty much what I copied/pasted...

I would try inputting the verification code Lola found at the beginning into the main TEC site, it may save a cookie or something onto your computer which might give you access, just to give you an idea, or you can do a google search like I suggested and follow the trail to the codex, Lola pointed out further instructions for that. And I'm glad more people are playing, i though it was only going to be me and Lola here for a second. Smile

edit: and if we weren't supposed to find it yet, we foiled them, cuz I saved the codex as an attachment :p no going back now!

edit2: yeah you are right, it appears they took the sites down, but it doesnt matter, we recorded all the important information so hah, I bite my thumb at them Smile

*on a more sour note, I think we may have to actually wait until Spet. 25 for the book to come out to find the chapter titles unless the author, Jeff Somers gets back to me. If he doesn't, I won't be very happy Sad

however, I think he will since it means press and exposure for his book, sko you never know...
April, if you have any questions about how we got to the sites we're at, just ask me or lola, since it seems almost impossible to do it yourself since TEC took down some of the sites in the trail...

HA!

This happens a lot. One day, PMs of these ARGs will realize they had better be damn quick on the ball with their sites. I'm just lurking this one but good job on the saved info.

I sent an email to ty asking him if the repeated theme songs in the codex meant anything to him. Hopefully since we were able to obtain the codex he will deem our progress as sufficient and provide us the next clue/current puzzle solve.

on another humorous note, this is the newest entry on Jeff Somers' (the author) blog, it looks like we've been noticed Wink

29 Aug We Hates Wikipedia

Friends, I used to have a Wikipedia page. It was a thing of beauty.

Okay, I created it myself. I certainly can't be the first self-centered author to go ahead and create his own Wikipedia entry. I mean, what shouldn't the world be blessed with knowledge of: Me? That's right: no reason. So I created my own page. It was restrained, bare-boned, and merely provided information about me to those who had a bizarre desire for same.

And then, one day not too long ago, someone tagged it as unnecessary on the grounds that I was not a "prominent" writer, and after a few weeks it was culled.

I didn't get involved with the debate over whether to keep it or not. While I had no qualms about creating my own page, I didn't think it seemly to go in there and actually campaign to keep it–let the Cosmos decide, I figured. And then the Cosmos did, indeed, decide–and my WP page was no more. Damn you all.

I mention this for no reason, of course. I have a blog to fill if I want my corporate masters to feed me, after all–in a few weeks this will be filled with laundry lists, diary entire in which I do nothing but write diary entries into this blog, and, finally, random poundings of the keyboard which I will refer to as 'poetry'. I would never try to incite the three or four people who actually read this blog into creating a new WP for me. That would be pathetic. And one thing I struggle day-in and day-out to not be, is pathetic.

I sometimes fail, of course, in that struggle. Especially after some liquor.

Meanwhile, Internet miscreants [us] around the world have discovered the official site for The Electric Church and are emailing me for clues to the puzzles therein. This is fun. I know all the answers, of course, but unless someone is willing to fly here and buy me some drinks, I ain't talkin'.

I sure hope he isn't serious about the flying part lol, this game would be over if that's what he had to do. I guess that means we're stuck Smile

someone should look on his website for anything having to do with titles and even randomly analyze the letters on the typewriter keys on the top. That's what I'm doing right now but I could use a second pair of eyes. Its probably OOG, but couldn't help to check.

In the Nothingtoseehere page...in the links it talks about the book this ARG is around. I find that odd...

It does seem odd, because it the promoted product usually doesn't play into the actual ARG itself. However, I think it's a pretty cool idea; the ARG referencing the thing it's promoting as an 'exposé' of the real truth, or something along those lines. It puts the book into the game, which is neat. Monster Hunter Club did something similar, IIRC. (I think the characters went to go see the movie attached to the game, The Host. Correct me if I'm wrong.)

---

I think this may have been mentioned earlier, but, is it possible that the binary below the chapters, put in order and decoded, would give us the password? That's what I thought of when I saw the login box. Of course, that would imply that we couldn't move on until the book came out...

Yea, we've already established that quite a few times lol, don't worry about it, there's so much text on these pages, I Feel faint of reading sometimes Smile. I stupidly went to the library before I even checked the release date of the book and made a fool of myself asking the librarian for a book that hadn't even come out yet. But give yourselves credit, I'm sure the maker of the site hadn't anticipated our solving the puzzles so fast, as in oh...1 day Smile, so it should be no wonder that we have to wait, its a common thing in ARG's, the wait just usually isnt that long... fargen bastage.

But yeah, baddog has already translated quite a few pages of the mulquer codex (over 200 lol, you can find it as an attachment a few pages back) and so far we've established that its only a smattering of repeated theme songs from 80's tv shows. What we are supposed to get from that I don't know.

Someone should actually listen to all of these songs and listen for a common chord progression or string of notes

then maybe

Anyone wanna check the years the shows first debuted?
common actors between any of them?
common themes?

Someone solve the mystery of the internet "Lorem Ipsum" and why its used on other sites too. Its too strange of a coincidence. There must be some standard, like a known placeholder text (thanks baddog). Hopefully thats the case, and if it isn't, if where each website with this code is IG, we are in trouble Smile

I dunno, just throwing out some suggestions. Thanks to baddog, its quite easy to check imdb for some of the shows, and I think google searches would do well also (obviously). So yeah. Besides this mystery/puzzle, I think we're going to have to wait for the book to come out, which is in quite awhile Sad[/b]

If you really wanted to check the chapter theory, there are several ARCs available already on abebooks:

http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?an=somers&sts=t&tn=electric+church&x=0&y=0

It would cost you 12-15 bucks with shipping, but maybe someone would want to shell out.

I seriously hope that the PM's didn't think that we wouldn't find this, and therefore plonk everything out there too early...

But anyway, I looked at the titles/years/plots, etc. There are a few recurring themes and such, but nothing that really comes off as obvious. The years for all of these shows falls into a '79-87 window, with the exception of Top Cat. Some recurring (and applicable) themes - corrupt authorities, vigilantes, a journey/nomadic tendancies, helping out the downtrodden, etc. I just did a really quick overveiw, so I don't know if I've dug up the right info. Hopefully, someone might pick something out of this that we can run with... Wink

Top Cat - '61-62 Animated series based on "The Phil Silvers Show" about Sgt. Bilko, a con-man in charge of the motor pool of a KS army camp.

Ulysse 31 - '81 Animated seriese based on Homer's "The Oddysey".

Dukes of Hazzard - '79-85 Former moonshiners, they basically thwart the schemes of the corrupt sherriff.

Knight Rider - '82-86 - a cop is shot by a criminal and left for dead. He is then nursed back to health a by a wealthy benefactor who provides a pretty groovy car (K.I.T.T.) for our hero to use while he goes on his various crimefighting missions

The A Team - '83-87 A group of Viet Nam vets, falsely accused of a crime, break out of prison to form a "soldier of fortune"/vigilante team while hiding out from the military folks trying to bring them in.

Dogtanian and the Muskhounds - '81 Animated version of Alexandre Dumas's book, "The Three Musketeers".

BJ and the Bear - '78 A trucker and his chimpanzee sidekick help rescue a group of women fleeing from a corrupt sherrif, who is also a slave trader

Around the World with Willie Fog - '81 Animated version of Jules Verne's "Around the World in 80 Days"

Thundercats - '85-87 - Animated series about a group of human/cats who flee their doomed planet to set up shop on a neighboring planet with an uber-bad guy whom they do battle with on a regular basis using various weapons and super powers.

The Littlest Hobo - '79-85 A stray German Shepard helps people with various crises, only to decide to stick with his nomadic lifestyle at the end of each episode rather than becoming the pet of the folks he helped out.

I think those sites were just using the same lorem generator: http://www.malevole.com/mv/misc/text/

description here: http://www.malevolent.com/weblog/archive/2005/04/13/lorem-ipsum-tng/

that being said, it is interesting that the login page found earlier bears more than a passing resemblance to that gentlemans older (personal) page: http://www.malevole.com/

Dang, you guys, are lazy, its only 8 pages, I had to read all 30+ pages of the tooman thread lol. but okay, just for you guys, and I'm going to do a double post, don't freak out, because it will be easier to see everything at once with no distraction. Any volunteers for buying an ARC? we could all pitch in a dollar, but that would be unbearably complicated to coordinate, so someone should jus tdo it. I mean don't kid yourselves guys, you are all going to buy the book when it comes out for novelty Smile, so why not be one of the first and buy one for the rest of us?
