Ty hasn't responded to my last message either. It has been a couple of days.

So what should we concentrate on now? I was looking for another blog last night but couldn't find anything. I want something else to work on! Sad

As a side note, all of these links everyone keeps saying don't work actually do. For some reason, a direct link leads to that "Directory has no index file" page, but all you have to do is hit enter in the URL bar to reload the page again.

That is all I have to contribute. Fail.

That might've been the most helpful post in the last four days!

Since they're still working on new parts, I'm resigned to believe that maybe we aren't SUPPOSED to have gotten farther yet, as this is giving them time to move on ahead, much like last time.

That could also explain why Ty hasn't given us anything too concrete this time.

I'll look into _root a little later on today, it is a javascript command, I believe, which might mean we were on the right track before when looking at various javascripts. I am not too familiar with javascript, myself, but I suppose I could take the time to learn, unless someone smarter than myself knows anything concrete about it?

Wow. That's exactly what I said. Good job.

And as you seem to have broken the Internet, you fail. Way to make an idiot of yourself.

I'm with Adam C... I guess we should just wait it out, check up on things every now and then, and eventually we'll get some sort of confirmation that things are under way again. Research what we can now so we're prepared for what's next when it comes.

I'm not sure about Java, but /root/ is the directory name for the "root" user or superuser account controlled by the system administrator on several operating systems, especially those based on Unix.

EDIT: Okay, just did a bit of research, and _root is used as a command in Macromedia Flash to specify the root movie timeline. Here's the description from Adobe's website...

Quote:
Property; specifies or returns a reference to the root movie Timeline. If a movie has multiple levels, the root movie Timeline is on the level containing the currently executing script. For example, if a script in level 1 evaluates _root , _level1 is returned.

Maybe the next step involves an .swf file in some way...

thanks for reminding me about this, jjj-bob!

I wonder, are the two movies that Ty works in the background of the TEC main-page & the citizenship page flash files?

just a thought.

I don't know anything about flash, but is this normal to have in the code?

Quote:
!--url's used in the movie-->
!--text used in the movie-->
!--text used in the movie-->

I haven't quoted them exactly, because I don't think they'd show up right. The html is closed on the left side.

To the best of my knowledge nobody has decompiled the flash on this site. I don't know if that's because it's frowned upon to do that (brute force), or if it can't be done because it's not flash. Confused

Jeff says this in his forum-
Quote:

Glad to hear that--When I first put up the TEC web site, it was all DIY and I wasn't thinking game so much as atmosphere. I had one or two little codes in there for fun, but mainly it was a character breaking in to warn the person off and deface the content from time to time. All done in HTML and javascript, no flash, which I am obscurely proud of. When my publisher decided to hype the book a little, they thought the content of the site was cool and thought expanding it into a game would be fun.

At first I was really excited, but I had a moment of doubt, because I worried that people might get pissed if they thought they were being forced to buy a book to solve the puzzles. So we made sure that it wasn't 100% necessary. Then I worried that people would solve the puzzles immediately and we'd be the laughing stocks of the ARG world, but it seems like we struck a good balance.

Glad you're enjoying it!

J
That statement confuses me because it looks like flash to me. Confused

How do you know they are still working on the site? I've read Jeff's blog and forum and can't see where he says that it's not finished. The last time it couldn't be solved because we were lacking all of the chapter codes, Ty gave us the special 00000 code so that it was solved. It didn't take so long because it wasn't ready to be solved. Smile

Well, we theoretically could've found the password, there were absolutly NO hints, and the first code wasn't from the first chapter, so therefore, we couldn't have even begun figuring it out based on chapter titles. So, yes, in the end, we DID need Ty, there was no way around it.

Also, this is a direct quote from Somers' blog.

Quote:
Adam,

Oh, I think someone will solve it. Right now they're preparing the next step, but there will be an end, and I think someone out there's gonna do it.

BAF: Let's hope so. I am so damned tired of washing myself and doing my own shopping. And being forced to wear pants.

J

I don't want to say, I told you so, but, well, I TOLD YOU SO! Razz

Well that's a bummer! I'll have to find another puzzle for the weekend. Confused

So I suppose that Ty will respond when the clue is ready to be solved? I hope the game is finished by the time the book is officially released.

Well, guys, pat yourselves on the back, we are outpacing a professional team. Yeah, ditto to what waitress said, the game better be finished, that would be kinda weird, because I'm sure we'd hear the end of the storyline and then not be so interested in the ARG. But I hope there's a prize. I realize the chances are slim, but it would still be nice to maybe win a copy of the book for free. After all, I am your average cheap American Smile

Okay, Okay. I bow to you, Adam. Wink

*sigh* I guess I'll have to keep checking out the other trailheads for some good puzzle solving for now.
