What's the first thing you get when you search Google for 1-18-08 News? http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=1-18-08+News
Wouldn't it be better, don't you think, if when a person searched Google for news on 1-18-08 the first thing they got was http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com/ instead?
If only there was a way to make that happen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_bomb

What is your point exactly? We aren't playing favorites among the blogs "reporting" 1-18-08. We also aren't going to try to rig Google results. So what do you want?
If I were cynical, which I'm not, I would point out that there isn't much point in googling for 1-18-08 news because, so far, there are maybe three websites and then also, the myspace pages. What news would anyone be expecting?

His main point is why are a pair of sites like 1-18-08 News and 1-18-08 Truth the primary results in Google when the administrator of the first seems to lack the ability to dismiss anything, under the banner that he 'finds it interesting' or that it may somehow be relevant because a source emailed him, and the second has apparently posted fake news for higher viewing numbers and plagerised a site that can be respected, Cloverfield Clues which is one of the sites that tries filter the facts from the garbage.
The guy who runs 1-18-08 Blog summed up the point pretty well:
Quote:
At worst, he's a liar who isn't just perpetuating hoaxes but manufacturing them, and not only does that bother me morally and ethically but it screws up the Cloverfield viral marketing campaign for all of us.

Well, I am cynical- and this forum is such a sad and pathetic sight these days, with posts such as these providing a shining example.
If you want the cloverfield news/clues - then google cloverfield. Christ bookmark it, and don't search.
I quit this forum. Kingpin, you need a life.
Good day.

I'm going to repeat myself:
We aren't playing favorites among the blogs "reporting" 1-18-08. We also aren't going to try to rig Google results.
Enough, ok?

Couple clarifications: rose: Like it or not, unfiction has become the de facto center of the Cloverfield fan base. This is as it should be--unfiction has connected the dots time and time again--and this is why I identified unfiction as THE place to post if you're interested in reaching the Cloverfield community. But to be clear, I'm not asking "unfiction" to participate, I'm asking the people who frequent unfiction and who blog as well to participate ...on their blogs.
As for the power and importance of Google and key words, well, your view is in the minority.
So, while I can fully appreciate the "we" perspective you've taken, and I applaud your obvious regard for this community, please don't misconstrue my post as asking anything of unfiction. Rather, I'm simply trying to appeal to the sensibilities of bloggers who play by the rules.
Lastly, since you clearly do care about this community, I'll point out that other bloggers aren't the only ones with reason to be offended by the liberties and omissions of 1-18-08 News or 1-18-08 Truth. In fact, if you read 1-18-08 News today or yesterday, you'll discover that they are crediting their forum for identifying JamieAndTeddy.com. Hmmm. I don't know. Maybe you should play favorites and side with unfiction.

I care about unfiction and unfiction cares about me. Woo.
I'm very happy to support the players of 1-18-08, or anything else, supporting players is what we at unfiction do. We aren't trying to make money, get famous or change the world because of 1-18-08.
I guess I can tell you for the third time that I really don't care about this petty stuff among the blogs, but I don't think you are listening.

Youre right rose (as usual) Dont worry about all of the outside blogs unless you are a member there. We have are small community here and we get along fine w/o worring about others.
Edit: I just want to give props to http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com/ theyre on top of things. Ild have to say us and them are the best forum on the web.

Petty? It's not about people being able to claim who found what first... it's just the desire to want those who aren't primarily Unfiction members to have as accurate sources as we've had.

Nenya from Unfiction found this before your guy did. You guys steal things from other sites and claim it to be yours. Look at the times. He found it first. Just give credit where credit is due, and stop posting false info.

Probaly wont get approved, but i dont care. This is the only site I actually hate. I know i seem hippocritical from my post above, but they are trying to take credit. good job Nenya, f*** off 1-18-08news.com

Seriously, who cares? A battle between websites? That's like being a giant amongst midgets.

pissing matches are pathetic.... people that demand recognition for an ARG are people that don't have anything else in their lives to give them inner happiness. THis is the most pathetic thread. I check cloverfieldclues on a daily basis. The same as 1-18-08news.com. If your life is based on how many people go to your website then you have worse problems than you think.
Kill the thread

My bad. Well rose, I guess you're an owner or something. So, of course, you decide what's acceptable and appropriate. You've left me a bit confused as to where you're coming from ("we" then "I", "What is your point?" then "I really don't care.", etc.), and feeling a bit foolish for trying to address your concerns. For what it's worth, it wasn't meant to be a big deal or something to get worked up about. Really, just standard stuff. Apologies if you feel compelled to respond. Please don't feel as if you need to.
