Basically this is what should have happened (I think).

1. TDC sends the letter with a master key, and the King of Diamonds.

2. We were supposed to see the King and think, "This stands for 13, so we must use Rot-13 on the key!" (Problem is everyone just instinctively rotted it so they didn't connect it.)

3. Then the rot-13 code said, "youtube/tomdcesear13" all jumbled up. So we go there. But there's nothing! So how could we have continued on?? Something for the PM chat if we get one, I suppose. Maybe it was stegged? But following his logic, the next step should have been at the youtube page.

4. Now a video on youtube! In the video is the 8 of Clubs. What the rest of it means I have no clue.

5. The 8 of Clubs was supposed to led us to Rot-8 of the Code. We couldn't figure out what to do with it, but then when TDC told me a hint was "where we first met him" I figured it had to be on blogger.

6. So I put in OPWZOJHXZNZVMTJPOCDMOZZIY.blogspot.com, and Voila!

7. Ok from there we got an Ace. So that was supposed to lead us to Rot - 1. It also was used to decode that page's message.

8. Rot - 1 didn't work as a blogspot, so I searched under usernames on flickr, and it came up.

9. Now we have almost everything decoded on the flickr page. He says the answer is right in front of us, so it will probably have to do with that rot-8 code again.

10. Wabo guessed the deadman's hand which looks right. So that would led us to another Ace, so I'm guessing it will lead back to his Blog, then we use rot-1 to decode the letter.

I was going back and forth on the pictures and it literaly poped up reloading. I should have figured it would change again.

At the time there were 2 new tags - I thought the first was one of the bruteforce rot's so i ignored it and hacked at the second set. He may have changed it or i may have just missed it.

In cryp tool at the time it was a cesar cypher of H or a number shift of 8. A rot 18 is a cesar cypher of R. Either way its the same answer H&8 or R&18.

I guess he kinda has to upload this stuff as we go so that we dont find things ahead of the game.

Good catch, Im gettin pissed about missing stuff. First flicker and now this. Hell I wouldnt have understood the key code had you not made that post on it earlier this week. Maybe I need less whiskey and more sleep.

I think I get it. So he encrytped everything in Rot - negative 8, which is 18. The sentence below the card has to be something obvious but I can't figure it out. Mad

Yea, I never know if we are supposed to count forward or backward.

I think both those phrases are close to old clues on puzzles that the CM gave us. I havent had a chance to look back at the video / puzzle overviews. Maybe we need to see if they relate to some of the CM's old clues. If they seem close, we can apply the solves that those clues pointed to.

That's my guess. Either that, or he waited about 10 days, realized no one was getting it, then posted the letter. Maybe he was hoping we would decode it, see the key is Rot 1, then figure out how to use the cards to set the key.

 		A little more info on the Dead Man's Hand...

The two pairs are the black 8s & Aces (as Wabonan said), and the last card is disputed, but it is consistently disputed between these 4 cards:

5 Diamonds
9 Diamonds
Queen Clubs
King Spades

"Legend holds that Wild Bill Hickok was shot to death during a poker game in Deadwood, South Dakota, and that the hand he held was two pair, black aces and black eights. On that most people agree. The fifth card is not known for certain. In order of credibility, the following kickers have been suggested:

Five of Diamonds
The actual card is supposedly on display in Deadwood, previously on display at the Stardust in Las Vegas.
Nine of Diamonds
Listed below in the glossary, this card was supposedly reported by first hand accounts, and is used in a recreation in Deadwood.
Queen of Clubs
On display at Ripley's Believe it or Not.
King of Spades
Appeared in the 1936 movie The Plainsman with Gary Cooper as Hickok."

 		I mentioned this before, but I am still wondering about Pete, who we have assumed to be Andrew's son from Michael's letter. I still think he might be TDC. He has access to info.

In the letter, Michael tells Andrew that he hopes that he & Kate & Pete take their trip. Then, someone here received an e-mail from TDC that he was going away for a while. And, we have all of these photos connected with Europe.

OT, in the chats posted, TDC seems to be alluding to the fact that he isn't all that thrilled with Eric's behavior either. Hee hee. I like this.

I'm asking CM what he knows...

 		this might be a dead-end but can someone try to use the rot-11 code? the reason i say is that ace is 1 and 11 in blackjack. someone might have already done this but i didnt see it anywhere. plus didnt someone say that tom said he was a gambling maniac so he would probably use a lot of games.

Tom's clues were supposed to lead us to Rot 8 of the title of the picture "this is only the beginning." Remove the spaces and you get "bpqaqawvtgbpmjmoqvvqvo." Search on flickr and you find the last card.

Description (rot 13): label clues: One word follows "Dopp". Tag clues: 4 words, one word means "public expert".

I'm assuming this means the description under the dinosaur is the label. They are probably all anagrams?

For the Dinosaur pic's tags, an anagram from the tags is "notary," which can be defined as a "public expert." Not sure how it ties into the rest of the tags.


EDIT #2: Just went ahead and sent all 5 cards to TDC.
