I think jojo makes some excellent points about how the time and money invested would be flat stupid if it wasn't meant to involve us in something. I for one am not going to get stuck on some narrow self-assured idea of what an ARG has to be, because that sort of stodgy thinking is how people get left behind in an ever evolving medium like entertainment and the internet.
(Let's look back a second: 'People will never have computers in their homes', 'Full time, high bandwidth internet connections will never be affordable enough for home users')

What you can count on is things that still work, and have for a long time in storytelling. You are given pieces of the puzzle, bits of the story, which all come together in some way in the end. Most truly great storytellers in a genre such as this make you very familiar with the pieces and you are led to how they fit together in a slow and meticulous way, until suddenly the finished product leaps out at you and rewards you with that exciting understanding of it all. We have been shown some key pieces, and are slowly being fed info via MySpace posts and small updates to the Slusho site that are walking us around those shapes to see how they might fit with others. Considering what we can gather of the short timespan represented in the movie, I am guessing it'll be a very fast paced revelation of how our pieces fit together.
I look forward to having my breath taken away.
If it's not, then I'm going to think JJ is a jerk.

I agree.

I have been following, though not playing, the other ARG's on Unfiction
and this one doesn't even begin to compare. Not even with the weird
fiasco Ethan Haas turned out to be.

If there is something we're missing it's because it's too deeply hidden or
we've been lied to. This forum has turned every clue inside out and upside
down and then stripped it bare-assed naked. Nothing definitive has been
found.

I still think that if anything is to be found it will come from the MySpace
pages though.

The one thing this has done for me is to turn me on to ARG's and I hope
to catch one at the beginning some day.

Yeah, I've been lurking around forums like these, hoping someone else would turn up the clue that turned it around, trying to decipher slusho.jp etc. etc.

My conclusion is that this is like the show Lost, it grabs everyone's attention with tidbits of info hinting at a bigger picture, but it never pays off. This time instead of keeping us guessing on a tv show, it's the same thing but on the internet. I think we'll get more clues but no real ARG.

a brief message suggesting you look into Eldritch Errors

An admitted off-topic post here - but if you want to get into a game, the prologue of Eldritch Errors just finished up. They will be starting a new chapter soonish.

After playing the prologue, I highly recommend this game. It won't be difficult to catch up. Most of the characters we learned about in the prologue are dead. So you don't have to worry about them too much. It may seem like there is a lot of material, but it isn't as much as it first appears. And, unlike 1-18-08, most of it is substantive...or at least based on substantive stuff. Wink

I think that most anyone who was intrigued by 1-18-08 will enjoy playing this game. And, hey, it involves at least tangentially Clthulu, so your knowledge will help.

To read up on that game try:
www.eldritcherrors.com ( a meta site that explains a bit about the game)
www.smeldritch.com (the PM blog which is interesting)
www.sentryoutpost.com ) the in-game forum, which, is slow right now because the prologue just ended. There is also a wiki which Obtusivity is working on organizing to be ready for the next chapter.

ppl really get worked over simple stuff dont they? perhaps they would enjoy it better if all the awnsers where given and you could easily figure iit out in a minute, that seems like fun.

OT: if i did'nt go on vacation i would of caught ilovebees at the begining.
