This happened in Israel as well - Yasser Arafat would have stayed in exile if it weren't for Israeli politicians. It also happened with the US in South America. The problem is that when dealing with two options, each one worse than the other, you have to make a tough choice. The cold war was a global conflict. Since it didn't involve mountains of bodies, people tend to forget that it was a war, and in war you do what is necessary.

I also think you are right about not forgetting these past mistakes. Although, somehow the world always leaves me disappointed when it comes to remembering atrocities of the past.

I think what I was trying to say is: "Why do people find it so hard to believe that a group of extremist Muslim terrorists carried out 9/11, yet all it takes is an anonymous email to convince them that President Bush did it?"

PS: I think the fact that America had a part in creating Al-Qaeda gives it a legitimate reason to eradicate them. They turned on us, after we helped them. They betrayed our trust.

because they don't like to think its that easy to kill 3,000 people in one go.
because this would not be the first lie of the US governments.
because it would be easier to pull out of the war on terror if it was all a lie to start with.
because no one cares, the war on terror has forgotten the little corner of New York where it all started. It about the "AXIS" [being 3 county's that hated each other or they did].
<edit=when i said no one cares, every hows life was toched by 9/11 do care, but lots of others how don't are just mad because iraq or stuff. and fell its good thing to kick around. sorry to say it but its true.>

that's why the public would like to believe the conspiracies.

but then is it right to believe?
