[OT] Movies released on 1-18-08
New York Times article in section called "holiday movies"

The New York Time publishes reviews and list of movies to be released in the holiday season and thereafter. The list for 1-1808 includes some impressive titles including:

City of Men - a follow-up to the amazing City of God (this one is produced by the director of City of God)

Day Zero - (maybe not as impressive) three men discover they've been drafted - stars Elijah Wood among others

Fanboys- a story based in 1999 where a group of boyhood friends try to break into Lucas' Skywalker Ranch to steal a print of Starwars Episode 1 (this must be before they had actually seen it?)

Still Life - a "monumental" work by Chinese director Jia Zhang Ke about family members looking for relatives in a village about to be covered by the dam project

Mad Money - a crime movie with Katie Holmes, Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton... I know it sounds bad but the writer wrote Thelma and Louise

and finally this entry:

Quote:
"UNTITLED J. J. ABRAMS PROJECT" That's still the official title as of this writing, though sites on the Internet are calling it "Cloverfield." Judging from the jittery, hand-held video trailer, it involves something "alive and huge" that's tossing armored vehicles around in Lower Manhattan. Mr. Abrams, best known for his television series "Lost," is credited only as a co-producer on this; the director is Matt Reeves and the writer is Drew Goddard, both veterans of Mr. Abrams's television work.

Armored vehicles? How do they confuse that with the head of the SoL

They didn't watch the trailer carefully probably, and saw the SUVs shaking as the SoL's head was rolling down the street.
The tone sounds a little dismissive to me, which would tend to support a very abrupt and cursory review of the trailer.

I think it sounds a bit dismissive too, maybe because they find it ridiculous that this movie doesn't have an official title. (I'm not sure I blame them for any irritation they may feel about the lack of data about this film. ) They have to explain JJ Abrams' role in it instead of saying much about the film. They are paying attention enough to focus on the "alive and huge" comments from the trailer, which, I thought was a wink to the discussion about it.

I think they did a great job, the section is listing all the (major?) movies released from the beginning of November through the end of January. They give a couple of lines in summary to each of the many films opening on that 3 month period.

Here is a link to the entire section.

JJ better step up his advertising or I may be seeing this one on that date Very Happy

City of God was an amazing movie with nary a monster in sight.

So it sounds like Mad Money sent out a package with a lock and key saying "will they get away with it" and "1-18-08" on the key chain to some reviewers.

(yes, I googled "willtheygetawaywithit.com")

It would be nice if the lock and key went anywhere. but it probably just refers to the lock Diane Keaton steals as shown in the movie trailer.

To me, the Mad Money movie looks awful from the trailer, but it isn't my cup of tea anyway.
