[SPEC]This may be how the roar was created- a sound clip

Hi all, I've been reading this forum a while now.

Are any of you familliar with the band Goldfrapp? Well they have this song titled Felt Mountain, a couple years ago I downloaded a live version of this, just now I downloaded a progam which reverses songs, to test it out I randomly selected the live Felt Mountain version.
As I played it I noticed something, 30 seconds in the noise that would be the ending sounded a lot like the roar.

So to sum up I reversed the Felt Mountain track and a sound very very similar to the roar is at the start (well, end, but you know what I mean).
I thought it would be interesting.

I don't know what the instrument is called that is used, but I can find out.
If the file below doesn't work heres a yousendit http://download.yousendit.com/9ADBC1881E0D8A3B

It does sound similar, but there's also notable differences. I'd certainly say they wouldn't have actually used that song as the base given the potential legal complications.

From the sound of it, the ending note which you've pointed out appears to be a guitar, although I wouldn't be surprised if the monster's roar is a modified version of an existing creature's roar because that's the sort of thing that'd be done in sound engineering, take something that exists and modify it. It's believed the siren for Ecto-1 in Ghostbusters, which has been proven to be a custom effect, may have had it's origins with a real siren, just like the sound of Doctor Who's TARDIS is a key being run down a piano string.

Hmmm the instrument doesn't sound like a guitar to me.
Goldfrapp have allowed their songs for use in most things actually, but again I don't think the roar has come from that song just the same instrument was used in making of the roar. Or not.

Whilst not having worked on the development team I can't say with any degree of certainty, I doubt they used an instrument to engineer the roar.

After much looking, the sound is created using a clock (actually it's more like a theory but very good theory) this is on the album version but it's the same sound on the live version of Felt Mountain. And it does sound an awful lot like a clock. I'm fairly sure it's a clock inspired sound!

Quote:
This picture shows the bellows and the lifter wires, as well as the gong. At the very top, you can also see the bird, and if you look closely you can see the "dipping" wire attached to the tail of the bird.

The dipping wire gets hit by the left hand bellows (the second tone of the "cuckoo" sound) when the bellows is lifted, causing the head of the bird to dip. When the bellows is dropped, the bird's head pops up again. This makes it look like the little bird is bobbing its head as it cuckoos

I don't think it means anything just getting to the bottom of what caused a sound which sounds so much like the roar.
It would be cool actually to use a clock for a monsters sound though. Very different.

Uh-oh, you might give more weapons to the Cuckoo Clock people. Razz

With that said... you might be right about them using a clock at the end of the Goldfrapp song. I'll try listen to it again some point later on.
