A fan made that long ago and never tried to pretend it was real - everyone on this forum thought it kicked ass and congratulations were given all around.

It's a mix of clips from the cloverfield trailer and the "I am Legend" trailer. Again, it was never put forward as being anything other than a fan-made fake trailer, just for fun. It's damn cool, though, isn't it?

Rose, I like The Cheesies! Smile /claps!

I thought fake immediately. JJ would never release a trailer that awful (or at least this fan-chick doesn't think he would, LOL). It wouldn't bring people to the movie, it would shoe them away.

On a side note, to all the people demanding something from Jbrams & crew... no one promised an ARG, game or experience. We're hoping, but there was/is no promise. Yes, we "want to play a game?" (that last part in my best War Games voice) but hold your Pony?!'s and relax.

Cheers,
equi

The horse here is already pretty dead, but in an odd moment of 'thinking outside the box'...
YouTube videos are 4:3 aspect ratio. Theatrical trailers are roughly 16:9.
This video fits perfectly in the 4:3 video frame. The original trailer is 16:9 natively.

Well, if cloverfieldclues says it's fake, ...

Minor font/graphic details, however, don't necessarily disqualify it. Bad acting doesn't either. But it's enough to put me back on the fence. Which is okay. That said, the real news is I found the video by checking my blog. So, read my blog!

Surely it'd disqualify it from being an inside job at NY1 or from it being made by the actual production company? Either of those two would surely have the graphics template on hand to use if they wished.

Additionally, notice the news annoucement font actually moves upward when it changes from "Massive Explosion Rocks Manhattan" (and what's with the capitalisation of each word?) and "Mayor Orders Tunnels Closed".

There's also a distinct lack of a 'transititon' animation which a lot of those news companies use to change from one news headline on the graphic to another.

One sure fire way of knowing for sure it isn't Jill Scott is finding some footage of her and comparing the voice.

Aside from that, I found the shot of New York used as the Emergency Broadcast System backdrop

... If the trailer's a fake, WHY is it still up and running at YouTube - especially considering it's replete with trademarked logos (Paramount AND Bad Robot), and still J.J. OR Paramount HASN'T had it shut down by now, with all that rampant 'fakery'..? Shocked ...

Probably because they haven't strayed across it yet and asked for it to be taken down... or decided it wasn't worth the effort to get YouTube or the creator to remove it.

 Perhaps..

...BUT, Kingpin, wouldn't you agree that, considering the speed with which the first 'unauthorized' trailer was pulled by YouTube, that this 'fake' is STILL up and running - shouldn't it have been pulled by NOW? And as for it being considered a 'parody', and therefore considered 'Fair Use' (as CloverfieldClues.com suggested above), my question is: Even if considered 'parody', do you think Paramount and/or Bad Robot would allow their trademarked logo to be stamped all over a 'fake'? And that 'fake' video IS STILL up and running at YouTube (even as I type these words)..! Wink ...

Normally, studios don't even bother taking the time to put the smack down on fan trailers (which this amounts to)...but yeah, there *is* the issue of trademark/copyright infringement. If Paramount wanted to, they could sue the hell out of the hoaxsters for using their (and BR's) logo.

I just don't think the fan films are that important to them.

Not really, there are still copies of the Cloverfield trailer up on YouTube and as brettoniasam mentioned, some times it's just not pursuing ever single person after a while.

It isn't a real trailer, if it was, what exactly does it deliver to us that we didn't already know? This is not the second trailer that Abrams mentioned back at Comic Con.

Look, please stop viewing it's continued existance as proof. There have been plenty of fake or fanmade trailers on YouTube complete with studio logos that have been up for long periods of time before they were removed or have never been deemed important enough to justify the effort to get them removed.

The trailer's fake, look at it this way, the real trailer delivered us the concept of a large monster in Manhattan and it relating somehow to some of the people at the party. What exactly does the 'NY1 trailer' deliver?

Besides, plenty if people way more informed than I have posted numerous reasons as to why it's fake ranging from poor acting to poor graphics.
