[UPDATE] 9/5/07 Myspace: Hud asks for comic book characters

Taking from cgsheldon's post in the myspace thread as commented on by Anteros: it seems that Hud is looking for comic book characters.

I'm going to start with a shout out to my character spawned from reading these threads and ensuing the monster debates: the as-yet-unnamed Giant Squid with Weaponized Ink. The a-y-u Squid may not have a name, but he has a cult. The cult is unnamed too - but the name will have an excess of either vowels or consonants (no numbers.) Good news: the only qualification to join his cult, as forum readers may know, is that you like dessert.

I need an artist to draw this concept.

edit: fixed tag to reflect date Wink ~rose

I'm no artist, but I think the Squid concept is great. Haha, what if he posts the idea about some monster attacking the city and a super hero (probably himself) coming to save everyone? I wonder if he'll post people's responses.

I like it. Guaranteed to never be spelled correctly and to be unpronounceable by mere humans.

I hope people also post their own stuff, so we can have a number of ideas, not just my silliness. I have great faith in our ability to create a plethora of comic book characters which may or may not relate back to the movie. Maybe we could create one character per frame. Wink

C'mon: the lady with alligator hands? She's destined to be a classic. Oh, maybe she could make a sound like a backwards roar? I think my squid might make a sound like a cuckoo clock just before it attacks. (or is that too much a rip off of Peter Pan? wait, do i care?)

Maximillian (Max) Steinwald, head of an international global conglomerate of military tech companies and modelled after Samuel L. Jackson and his portrayed characters, has been secretly developing new weapons and armor using money from U.S. government contracts which he intends to distribute to enemies of the state. The plot is discovered by the CIA, but before Max can be arrested he bails with the two prototypes - a powered armor bodysuit and a giant robotic mecha which he uses to wage a personal war against the United States. The technology is so sophisticated that conventional weaponry at the military's disposal has no effect on it.

Meanwhile, in some backwoods town, twenty-something Fred Stanley, modelled after John Travolta and all of his portrayed characters, stumbles and falls into a nuclear waste dump site located on an ancient native burial ground that was used as a landing pad for cattle-abducting UFO's; the combination of which surprisingly doesn't kill Fred but gives him impregnable skin and psionic powers, which he decides to use to fight crime in his small hometown. However, it's after Max starts ripping the head off of the Statue of Liberty and destroying downtown Manhattan that Fred decides he should leave his hometown and try to save America from the marauding supervillan.

Each issue has Fred fighting off Max's small following of hoodlums and various robotic creations, attempting to infiltrate Max's various strongholds, battling space aliens who want to dissect him, evading F.B.I agents trying to discover the source of his powers, making peace with the ghosts of native americans whose tribal remains have been desecrated, occasionally battling with Max and his powered suit, and finally climaxing with a lengthy battle against the monstrous automaton, and then the final showdown with Max.

Man, I should work for Stan Lee. Now, you need an artist's conception of a squid monster? I could probably come up with something half-assed.

Vlad

Hey, someone replied to Hud's blog, his name is Vlad and Hud replied to him as well. Vlad's profile looks new, but very simple. Is Vlad someone here? He (Vlad) is asking for responses about Hieronymous Bosch.

edit: nevermind about Vlad, he has a the 1-18-08 movie poster in his profile.

Hud has started his comic book story using the artists works provided; now he wants us to continue it where he left off.

Rob wants to play too.

That's pretty cool, what you are doing with people's comic book characters. Am I allowed to play, or do am I still banned from the discussion until I read The Watchmen?

Here's an idea:

Watchmen involved a plot very similar to Heroes - in both stories, a group of people similar to an Illuminati-type group plan a disaster that is designed to unite an otherwise fractional world, i.e., united against a common, monstrous, and unknown enemy. In Heroes, it was NYC exploding (b/c of a mutant/hero goin' nuclear), and in Watchmen, it was an "alien" creature/monster basically being teleported into NYC - hard to explain (read the graphic novel; it rocks!). The creature in Watchmen was fake, basically. In both stories, the whole disaster was planned by people that could be called "good guys"; or at least, they thought of themselves as the 'good guys.'

So, here's the idea: the monster movie will be a straight-up monster movie; except, of course, filmed in the hyper-realistic Blair Witch style which will make history, in and of itself (no one has ever done a disaster/monster movie like that). But, there might also be an online ARG, much like the Lost Experience. If that's true, then, it's already started w/what we know so far, but will only really kick-off once the movie comes out. And, my idea is that we'll eventually uncover a backstory that is similar to the one in Watchmen/Heroes - perhaps the Dharma Initiative is behind this - they made the monster, or they found it, or Slusho found it but Dharma found a way to 'use' it to achieve the goal of the Watchmen/Heroes, i.e., a drastic and 'other-worldy' event that unites the world and prevents the various nations of the world from destroying each other.

Anyway, apart from the rambling, my point is: the monster could have been intentionally 'sent' to NYC as part of a plan by some group (and, why not the Dharma group?), for the same reasons that the groups had in Watchmen & Heroes. Just a thought.

I'm sure this is already well known, but I'll say it anyways. The Watchmen has a highly anticipated movie coming out in 2009.
