[META] NBC 8-8-08

If Abrams and Paramount are going to cash in on the effects of 1-18-08 - NBC will.

8-8-08

I think the NBC online department is starting to catch on to the potential the internet offers.

Yay NBC.

Or maybe NBC had their marketing campaign thought up first and it leaked to the 1-18-08 guys?

Actually this date has nothing to do with NBC trying to cash in on the film. The simple fact is like most recent years these dates, like 7-7-07 or 6-6-06 are the most popular for various reasons. They are the most populare dates for weddings for example. The amount of people getting married on these dates make up for about 25% of the of any years total.

And this is just one examle the 2008 Olympics is another great reason to start the show on 8-8-08.

Plus the number 8 is considered lucky by the Chinese. So yeah, absolutely no significance to Cloverfield.

You don't see the relationship between the two?

Ok, I was pressing a point a bit hard. I'm sure that NBC had the 8-8-08 thing going for a while. But, I'm also sure that I am not the only one who is reminded of 1-18-08 by this.

8-8-08.com was created/registered in May 2006. It is set to expire in 2008. Wonder if the owner hopes to sell it to NBC.

You mean in how the date's laid out?

If so, it seems a pretty standard way of doing it, like using periods or slashes.

If not, please elaborate. Neutral

Rose, I agree. I noticed it too when I saw an ad on NBC the other night.

For others, maybe think of it as a new "style" or trend in marketing. Like orange & green was a trend for websites, or glossy looking buttons were a trend online, etc. NBC noticed JJ's movie and how much it drew people with his trailer, hence people are searching online (google & the like) for date formats 1-18-08, etc. NBC *might* have drawn a slight parallel in people's minds by keeping the date in the same relative format and making it stand alone in it's commercials.

I would be willing to bet that NBC's marketing team deciding to make the 8/8/8 so prominent had absolutely nothing with jj abrams' movie. just because they both have 8s in them doesn't make them related

I know a lot of people on this forum might find it hard to believe, but not everything is related to 1-18-08. And not everything you see is a clue or a hint...

There are drugs available for OCD... I'm just saying...
