Thanks to Redct we will be using a program called ventrilo.

Download the client version here:

http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php

If you run windows you want to download the one called Windows i386 - 32bit

once you get it running click the little arrow by server.

Click New.

in the Host name or IP field enter
SEE BELOW

In the Port number field enter
SEE BELOW
In Password enter
SEE BELOW

Click ok

Then click Connect

You should be in!

Edited: 12/12 to prevent confusion over connection details.

As much as we appreciate RedCT's vent server (and we did), 8 slots just weren't enough for the mass of people. THUS, I have set up a paid vent server with space for 40 people.

SERVER DETAILS:
Hostname: 67.19.117.90
Port Number: 6247
Password: sl1

Leave the channel section blank, and you're in!

We'd greatly prefer you using the same handle you use on here and that you use with the deck, as it makes everything go much, much smoother.

CHANNEL DETAILS:The server has a wide selection of channels, most of which are explained in their channel description. There are private channels that have a person limit, so that people can be ensured a private voice conversation, and there will be two other channels besides the main lobby where conversation can happen. The main channel is just that -- main. Use it for whatever you'd like, just don't ... well, don't be a jerk. Okay? Various people have the administrative powers, but I don't foresee having to use them.

PAYMENT DETAILS: This is a paid server, like I said. I offered to pay for it all out of my pocket, but a few have demanded I let them help pay... so fine. Smile It's $9 a month, and various people have sent me $9 to my paypal account to cover a month of their own, and that's fine. Email me, send me a PM, or contact me on IRC, and I'll give you my paypal email address. If you can't do paypal, but you still want to help pay, I will gladly give you my mailing address. Don't feel pressured. I can handle this out of my pocket, and we'll definitely be able to keep this server up and running until the end of November of 2008. If you can't help out, that's cool. If you can only throw a dollar or two my way, that's cool too. Okay? Smile We're all a big happy fambly, and I want it to stay that way.

I know this can only mean good things.

 		Also, I'd like to lay down a rule or two.

In chat, I'm not someone to hate on all caps and obnoxiousness. Whatever, right? But I would really appreciate not getting spammed and having my ears bleed because of it. My ears are sensitive, and always have been. Please be respectful of us, and use common sense.

Also please try not to talk over other people. Sometimes it's unavoidable, but you can still try.

And also, don't think that just because you don't have a mic you can't join in. I didn't have a mic tonight, and Jonah still replied to the texts I put in the chat. You will still be seen and heard, just in a different way.

 		Some Tips
Just some info for people using Ventrilo for the first time.
The following will normalize your ventrilo volume so that everyone is at the same volume level.

Here's how:

- Go to Setup

- Enable Direct Sound

- Select the SFX Button

- Select Compressor and click Add.

- Under Compressor Properties use the following settings:

- Gain = Adjust for how loud you want people to be. (I use 15)

- Attack = 0.01

- Release = Around 500

- Threshold = Around -30

- Ratio = 100

- Pre delay = 4.0

- Click ok and your good to go.

Everyone's voice will be the same volume, just adjust your speakers if everyone is too quiet or too loud.

I hope this is a help ^_^
Oh, and i highly suggest setting a push-to talk key as opposed to voice activated, but thats just my $0.02.
