i have crazy brain storming atm.

How about this, we all know theres some serious deep sea harvesting for the mysterious ingredient. What if this constant harvesting is interrupting somethings food supply. It isnt usually a hostile creature until it feels its own safety is at risk. Thus it attacks New York in a hungry rage.

That makes a lot of sense (or scents). Taking that idea a step further, if the secret ingredient is the monster's food, then maybe anyone who has ingested enough Slusho (say more than six) gives off a scent that the creature can smell. Many animals can detect very subtle scents over very long distances.

http://www.pinktentacle.com/2007/02/time-lapse-video-of-deep-sea-feeding-frenzy/

That link talks about some deep sea crabs and other "lice" like creatures in a Japanese video.

My favorite part is the comment at the bottom of the page from Axel about decapods near Brazil and their growth. He mentions pollution and growth hormone experiments being the cause. So the leap is, does Rob work for a company performing experiments like these and causing the mayhem we have come to know. Just some thoughts.

I suspect, as many others do, that Rob works (in the marketing dept.) for the company that manufactures Slusho. So yeah, they're probably big into food additives and other unhealthy chemicals, so it's not a big stretch to theorize that Slusho & Co. dumps toxins that might make a deep sea crab get all moody and turn into, like, a giant monster or something.

The keeping cold and chilled parts of the recipe is (I Think) an important reference. Read it again and see how many things are in the recipe:
Please make sure to keep this one cold!
Chill it until it becomes cold
and then chill
run under cold water until chilled.

From the Slusho History:
Because the ingredient was discovered on the deep
ocean floor, under amazing pressure and in the most extreme cold, Ganu
knew he had to serve the ingredient in a near-frozen state to preserve its
freshness!!

if you go to the clothing section of slusho.jp the words on the runway say "Slusho! Make you feel freezing" and "Now Slusho! Make you look cool!!!"

is this new stuff or did i just notice it because of all the mention of cold in the recipe?

If you do the old alphabet code thing:
a=1 b=2 c=3 etc
3912 = ciab

but 9 letters back from end of alphabet is zyxwvutsR

so could be 3912 = crab

dunno if just coincident or not.

That's always been there.

Have the letters in front of the 3912 been translated yet?

If we haven't solved this by morning, I'll run it by my Japanese professor.

I've got a feeling someone will come up with a fairly good translation before then, though.

*also, at the bottom, it says "ikeike, oishishefu" or "Ikeike, Delicious Chef"

So I'm thinking the guy's name is Ikeike

Or I['m just being stupid.

Here it is: (by the way, I don't think that it was written by a native speaker, because there are some odd syntax uses. He uses some very formal japanese mixed in with very informal.)

Everybody, thank you for viewing! I'll introduce this week's delicious recipe. Please make sure to keep this one cold!

*Skinless chicken breast - 2, cut in halves
*Soumen (a kind of japanese noodle) - 10 oz.
*Watercress - 1/2 cup cut into small strips
*Turnip - 1/2 cup, thinly sliced
*Shiitake (japanese mushrooms) - 1/2 cup
*Chicken stock - 1/3 cup
*Sake (japanese rice wine) - 2 tbsp.
*Sugar - 1/2 tsp.
*Ocean-bottom crab - one

In a small saucepan, stir together 1/3 cup water, chicken stock, sake, and sugar. Chill it until it becomes cold. Grill the chicken breast on both sides for about 8 minutes, and then chill. Boil the noodles for about 3 minutes, and then run under cold water until chilled. Mix the watercress, turnips, and mushrooms into the soumen. Slice the chicken thinly and arrange on top of the soumen mix. Just before you serve, put the crab in the sauce and pour over the noodles generously.

Go go Oishii ("delicious") Chef!

Apologies for my previous post. Terrific translating job!

Yes, it translates to "number"

Wow. This is an... odd development. Japanese cooking at 1-18-08.com. And the most odd part is the lack of a time stamp. Personally, that was the first thing that stood out.

Now, I have to say the reasoning for this picture is... nothing. Nothing at all. Yes, the numbers equaling CRAB, the random crab thrown in at the end, and the cold things do sound (pardon the pun) fishy, but that's it. We have no other reason for this. Okay, if in a few days you find something else, come back here and rub it in my face. I wish there is something else in this picture. Yet, alas, I think this may be a distracter. The only clue we could possibly get out of this is the crab. I doubt that if we make this dish at home that some sort of clue will fly out of what you just cooked... if that did happen, it'd be the coolest ARG ever, though.
It's either this is just a dead end from the perspective of what we already have, or this is a new beginning fromt he perspective of what we don't have yet.
