we may have discussed this but why havent Tagruato...

Approximated the EURR of the Chuai Station, they have the workforce established at 355?
I could make some graphs and Shiite on my TI-82, but see below:
other rigs results:
314 Workforce-17billion EURR
281-15billion
273-13billion
207-9billion
197-8billion
91-1.5billion

im not a huge math guy, i have a taxchic for that, the numbers look like a proportion? why wouldnt they know? do they know and wont tell us? why? or do you think they wont know til they get goin on the project, because there is a grumpypants down there that they want to play with?

Thanks for the pic Matt! Obviously it won't be the same machine (even the logo is slight different), but it's a nice catch.

(and sorry for the double post before, guys)

The language selector on the welcome page is still only working on"English". Why would they put such a feature if it is not to be used? I tought at first that the english version was put first and that the rest will be active later. Even stranger, since it is a native Japanese corporation, why does the Japanese version is not online? And to continue, the three small link at the bottom are still not active: Policy, site map and help.

I think that's meant to make it subtly clear that this is a fictional site. Particularly relevant is the English only nature of the site, which speaks to the fact that this movie is being made primarily for an English speaking audience in an English speaking country. I would find it cool if they did launch the site in other languages, because I'm sure others around the world are quite interested in this movie too... ¿es verdad?

It creates the look and feel of a multi-national company.

Well I surely would have like the French version, since that my main language. But I realise that it narrows the searchable terms. I can imagine the labor to duplicate websites after websites, just because you want people to be able to stay IG when looking for "nectar des fonds marins" Confused . Anyway, they could have skip it if it is not being of any uses.

Chuai Station

How many of you agree must be a problem over on the Chuai Station? Was suppose to open Sept..still not operational. You would believe they would have some type of announcement about their Newest station up & running. No news on the meeting with the Tanzanian Energy.(Scheduled for mid-october)...maybe meeting was canceled do to events over at the Chuai station?

Dalphx, i agree
this question would be answered by now

another thing is we know the depth they are shooting for below or around 16200 (9200 ground added to their 7000 water depth)

Just wondering with the budget of the movie, how good the special effects are there gonna be throughtout the movie. Like to see some awesome underwater effects under the workstation when they let loose grumpypants.

Imagine…
As character development begins taking place in NYC between S!7, we
see occasional flashes of what the monster sees, actually through the
monsterz eyes, at the great depths of the bottom of the ocean…could
look like anything really.

It's pitch black down there…sunlight penetrates no farther than a
few hundred feet down, leaving the deep-sea floor as dark as the
deepest cave. Grumpypantz (got me sayin' it) would have to evolve some
unique sight with no light Shocked

Yet, all life at those depths belongs to the animal kingdom; with no
sunlight, there are no plants. Jabramz could have a cloverfield day
with the first person visual perspective from any monsterz maintaining
sight, living down there at those depths.

Maybe Grumpypantz bumpz Tagruato drillings
rig on accident cuz he can't see $h!t...lol

Also - no plants = no photosynthesis. All other life ever identified, on land
or in the sea, derives its energy either directly or indirectly from the sun.
Life, itself, develops through a different process, chemosynthesis, at those depths.
(ie. vent species don't rely on photons from the sun - rather on chemicals from the Earth's interior)
How sight develops really is up to one's imagination Very Happy

Assuming movie has a good portion of 30 - 35 million dollar budget
dedicated to CGI and such, we should get a pretty good show.

A few creatures that live at that depth which do have eyes create their own light.

Our monster could be a huge Mag-Lite. Laughing

Possibly more than a few - topically the Antares telescope for neutrino spotting (like bird watching but less fun) is covered in photoreceptors. A side effect of which is that the physicists are being distracted by all the glowing bugs out there. The New Scientist article is here but moslty behind subscription (dammit) will edit with real thing when I finally find it!

Do the math

on the drilling map 5 stations came online on feb 25 1995

2 + 25 + 95 = 118

Did anybody read The Dark Tower series by Stephen King? The whole "everything has to do with 1, 8, 18 etc" is just like the number 19 thing. Its more of a subplot than anything else, not interfering with the story, but it kinda binds everything together in a cool way.
Hopefully it stays that way; when you make obsessions with numbers the main plot, you get a disaster like "The Number 23".

EDIT: 100th post! Wooo!

I've got two questions.
First off, why is E.U.R.R. placed as EU.R.R. on the drilling station map? It seems just a little strange that they would miss the punctuation and never correct it. But then again, I've seen punctuation mistakes that bother me on website pages go unchanged for months if at all.
Second, why is Chuai Station on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge at all? They can't possibly be drilling for oil in divergent zone where the rock is all relatively new. Oil takes aeons to form and the rock in the area would only be a few thousand years old at most, it would be unlikely a great deal of organic material has gathered underneath the freshly formed rock. There would be little, if any, petrol to drill up there. The other sites are more reasonable, a good portion of them do actually have countries either searching or currently drilling for oil. But as far as I can find, it is unfeasible and illogical to be drilling along the Atlantic divergent boundary.
